PSALMS: 1
1 How blessed are those who reject the advice of the wicked,
don't stand on the way of sinners or sit where scoffers sit!
2 Their delight is in ADONAI's Torah;
on his Torah they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams -they bear their fruit in season,
their leaves never wither, everything they do succeeds.
4 Not so the wicked, who are like chaff driven by the wind.
5 For this reason the wicked won't stand up to the judgment,
nor will sinners at the gathering of the righteous.
6 For ADONAI watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked is doomed.
PSALMS: 31
1 For the leader.
A psalm of David:
In you, ADONAI, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
in your justice, save me!
2 Turn your ear toward me, come quickly to my rescue,
be for me a rock of strength, a fortress to keep me safe.
3 Since you are my rock and fortress, lead me and guide me for your name's sake.
4 Free me from the net they have hidden to catch me, because you are my strength.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you will redeem me, ADONAI, God of truth.
6 I hate those who serve worthless idols;
as for me, I trust in ADONAI.
7 I will rejoice and be glad in your grace,
for you see my affliction,
you know how distressed I am.
8 You did not hand me over to the enemy;
you set my feet where I can move freely.
9 Show me favor, ADONAI, for I am in trouble.
My eyes grow dim with anger, my soul and body as well.
10 For my life is worn out with sorrow and my years with sighing;
my strength gives out under my guilt, and my bones are wasting away.
11 I am scorned by all my adversaries, and even more by my neighbors;
even to acquaintances I am an object of fear when they see me in the street,
they turn away from me.
12 Like a dead man, I have passed from their minds;
I have become like a broken pot.
13 All I hear is whispering, terror is all around me;
they plot together against me, scheming to take my life.
14 But I, I trust in you, ADONAI; I say, "You are my God."
15 My times are in your hand;
rescue me from my enemies' power, from those who persecute me.
16 Make your face shine on your servant;
in your grace, save me.
17 ADONAI, don't let me be put to shame,
for I have called on you;
let the wicked be put to shame, l
et them be silenced in Sh'ol.
18 May lying lips be struck dumb,
that speak insolently against the righteous with such pride and contempt.
19 But oh, how great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you,
which you do for those who take refuge in you, before people's very eyes!
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from human plots,
you conceal them in your shelter, safe from contentious tongues.
21 Blessed be ADONAI!
For he has shown me his amazing grace when I was in a city under siege.
22 As for me, in my alarm I said, "I have been cut off from your sight!
"Nevertheless, you heard my pleas when I cried out to you.
23 Love ADONAI, you faithful of his.
ADONAI preserves the loyal, but the proud he repays in full.
24 Be strong, and fill your hearts with courage,
all of you who hope in ADONAI.
PSALMS: 61
1 For the leader.
A psalm of David:

PSALMS: 91
1 You who live in the shelter of 'Elyon,
who spend your nights in the shadow of Shaddai,
2 who say to ADONAI,
"My refuge!
My fortress!
My God, in whom I trust!"
3 he will rescue you from the trap of the hunter and from the plague of calamities;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his truth is a shield and protection.
5 You will not fear the terrors of night or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the plague that roams in the dark,
or the scourge that wreaks havoc at noon.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand;
but it won't come near you.
8 Only keep your eyes open, and you will see how the wicked are punished.
9 For you have made ADONAI, the Most High,
who is my refuge, your dwelling-place.
10 No disaster will happen to you,
no calamity will come near your tent;
11 for he will order his angels to care for you and guard you wherever you go.
12 They will carry you in their hands,
so that you won't trip on a stone.
13 You will tread down lions and snakes,
young lions and serpents you will trample underfoot.
14 "Because he loves me, I will rescue him;
because he knows my name, I will protect him.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him when he is in trouble.
I will extricate him and bring him honor.
16 I will satisfy him with long life and show him my salvation."
PSALMS: 121
1 A song of ascents:
If I raise my eyes to the hills,
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from ADONAI,
the maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip -your guardian is not asleep.
4 No, the guardian of Isra'el never slumbers or sleeps.
5 ADONAI is your guardian; at your right hand
ADONAI provides you with shade
6 the sun can't strike you during the day or even the moon at night.
7 ADONAI will guard you against all harm;
he will guard your life.
8 ADONAI will guard your coming and going from now on and forever.
PROVERBS: 1
1 The proverbs of Shlomo the son of David, king of Isra'el,
2 are for learning about wisdom and discipline; f
or understanding words expressing deep insight;
3 for gaining an intelligently disciplined life,
doing what is right, just and fair;
4 for endowing with caution those who don't think and the
young person with knowledge and discretion.
5 Someone who is already wise will hear and learn still more;
someone who already understands will gain the ability to counsel well;
6 he will understand proverbs, obscure expressions,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of ADONAI is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
8 My son, heed the discipline of your father,
and do not abandon the teaching of your mother;
9 they will be a garland to grace your head,
a medal of honor for your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you,
don't go along with them.
11 Suppose they say, "Come with us:
we'll ambush somebody and kill him,
we'll waylay some harmless soul, just for fun;
12 we'll swallow him alive, like Sh'ol, whole,
like those who descend to the pit;
13 we'll find everything he has of value,
we'll fill our homes with loot!
14 Throw in your lot with us;
we'll share a common purse"-
15 my son, don't go along with them,
don't set foot on their path;
16 Their feet run to evil, they rush to shed blood.
17 For in vain is the net baited if any bird can see it;
18 rather, they are ambushing themselves
to shed their own blood, waylaying themselves.
19 So are the ways of all greedy for gain -it takes the lives of those who get it.
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the open air and raises her voice in the public places;
21 she calls out at streetcorners and speaks out at entrances to city gates:
22 "How long, you whose lives have no purpose,
will you love thoughtless living?
How long will scorners find pleasure in mocking?
How long will fools hate knowledge?
23 Repent when I reprove -I will pour out my spirit to you,
I will make my words known to you.
24 Because you refused when I called,
and no one paid attention when I put out my hand,
25 but instead you neglected my counsel and would not accept my reproof;
26 I, in turn, will laugh at your distress,
and mock when terror comes over you
27 yes, when terror overtakes you like a storm and your disaster approaches like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble assail you.
28 Then they will call me, but I won't answer;
they will seek me earnestly, but they won't find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of ADONAI,
30 they refused my counsel and despised my reproof.
31 So they will bear the consequences of their own way
and be overfilled with their own schemes.
32 For the aimless wandering of the thoughtless will kill them,
and the smug overconfidence of fools will destroy them;
33 but those who pay attention to me will live securely,
untroubled by fear of misfortune."
OLD TESTAMENT: 1 SAMUEL 29:1 - 31:13
29:1 Now the Pelishtim gathered together all their hosts to Afek: and the Yisra'elites encamped by the spring which is in Yizre`el. 2 The lords of the Pelishtim passed on by hundreds, and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rearward with Akhish. 3 Then said the princes of the Pelishtim, What [do] these Hebrews [here]? Akhish said to the princes of the Pelishtim, Isn't this David, the servant of Sha'ul the king of Yisra'el, who has been with me these days, or [rather] these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell away [to me] to this day? 4 But he princes of the Pelishtim were angry with him; and the princes of the Pelishtim said to him, Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us: for with what should this [fellow] reconcile himself to his lord? should it not be with the heads of these men? 5 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Sha'ul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands? 6 Then Akhish called David, and said to him, As the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the host is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day: nevertheless the lords don't favor you.
7 Therefore now return, and go in shalom, that you not displease the lords of the Pelishtim. 8 David said to Akhish, But what have I done? and what have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king? 9 Akhish answered David, I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Pelishtim have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle. 10 Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart. 11 So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Pelishtim. The Pelishtim went up to Yizre`el.
30:1 It happened, when David and his men were come to Tziklag on the third day, that the `Amaleki had made a raid on the South, and on Tziklag, and had struck Tziklag, and burned it with fire, 2 and had taken captive the women [and all] who were therein, both small and great: they didn't kill any, but carried them off, and went their way. 3 When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5 David's two wives were taken captive, Achino'am the Yizre`elite, and Avigayil the wife of Naval the Karmelite. 6 David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. 7 David said to Avyatar the Kohen, the son of Achimelekh, Please bring me here the efod. Avyatar brought there the efod to David. 8 David inquired of the LORD, saying, If I pursue after this troop, shall I overtake them? He answered him, Pursue; for you shall surely overtake [them], and shall without fail recover [all]. 9 So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed. 10 But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn't go over the brook Besor. 11 They found a Mitzrian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink. 12 They gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights. 13 David said to him, To whom belong you? and whence are you? He said, I am a young man of Mitzrayim, servant to an `Amaleki; and my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick. 14 We made a raid on the South of the Kereti, and on that which belongs to Yehudah, and on the South of Kalev; and we burned Tziklag with fire. 15 David said to him, Will you bring me down to this troop? He said, Swear to me by God, that you will neither kill me, nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop. 16 When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad over all the ground, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Pelishtim, and out of the land of Yehudah. 17 David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day: and there not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled. 18 David recovered all that the `Amaleki had taken; and David rescued his two wives. 19 There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor anything that they had taken to them: David brought back all. 20 David took all the flocks and the herds, [which] they drove before those [other] cattle, and said, This is David's spoil. 21 David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to abide at the brook Besor; and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him: and when David came near to the people, he greeted them. 22 Then answered all the wicked men and base fellows, of those who went with David, and said, Because they didn't go with us, we will not give them anything of the spoil that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away, and depart. 23 Then said David, You shall not do so, my brothers, with that which the LORD has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand. 24 Who will listen to you in this matter? for as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who tarries by the baggage: they shall share alike. 25 It was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Yisra'el to this day. 26 When David came to Tziklag, he sent of the spoil to the Zakenim of Yehudah, even to his friends, saying, Behold, a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD: 27 To those who were in Beit-El, and to those who were in Ramot of the South, and to those who were in Yattir, 28 and to those who were in `Aro`er, and to those who were in Shefamot, and to those who were in Eshtemoa, 29 and to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Yerachme'eli, and to those who were in the cities of the Kinim, 30 and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Kor-`Ashan, and to those who were in `Atakh, 31 and to those who were in Hevron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
31:1 Now the Pelishtim fought against Yisra'el: and the men of Yisra'el fled from before the Pelishtim, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Pelishtim followed hard on Sha'ul and on his sons; and the Pelishtim killed Yonatan, and Avinadav, and Malki-Shua, the sons of Sha'ul. 3 The battle went sore against Sha'ul, and the archers overtook him; and he was greatly distressed by reason of the archers. 4 Then said Sha'ul to his armor bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Sha'ul took his sword, and fell on it. 5 When his armor bearer saw that Sha'ul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him. 6 So Sha'ul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, that same day together. 7 When the men of Yisra'el who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Yarden, saw that the men of Yisra'el fled, and that Sha'ul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Pelishtim came and lived in them. 8 It happened on the next day, when the Pelishtim came to strip the slain, that they found Sha'ul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They cut off his head, and stripped off his armor, and sent into the land of the Pelishtim round about, to carry the news to the house of their idols, and to the people. 10 They put his armor in the house of the `Ashtarot; and they fastened his body to the wall of Beit-Shan. 11 When the inhabitants of Yavesh-Gil`ad heard concerning him that which the Pelishtim had done to Sha'ul, 12 all the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Sha'ul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beit-Shan; and they came to Yavesh, and burnt them there. 13 They took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Yavesh, and fasted seven days.
NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 11:55 - 12:19
11:55 Now the Pesach of the Yehudim was at hand. Many went up to Yerushalayim out of the country before the Pesach, to purify themselves. 56 Then they sought for Yeshua and spoke one with another, as they stood in the temple, "What do you think? Isn't he coming to the feast?" 57 Now the chief Kohanim and the Perushim had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
12:1 Therefore six days before the Pesach, Yeshua came to Beit-Anyah, where El'azar was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 So they made him a supper there. Marta served, but El'azar was one of those who sat at the table with him. 3 Miryam, therefore, took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Yeshua, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. 4 Then Yehudah from K'riot, Shim`on's son, one of his talmidim, who would betray him, said, 5 "Why wasn't this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?" 6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it. 7 But Yeshua said, "Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial. 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you don't always have me." 9 A large crowd therefore of the Yehudim learned that he was there, and they came, not for Yeshua' sake only, but that they might see El'azar also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief Kohanim conspired to also put El'azar to death, 11 because on account of him many of the Yehudim went away and believed in Yeshua. 12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Yeshua was coming to Yerushalayim, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet him, and cried out, "Hoshia`na! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Yisra'el!" 14 Yeshua, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written, 15 "Don't be afraid, daughter of Tziyon. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey's colt." 16 His talmidim didn't understand these things at first, but when Yeshua was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him. 17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called El'azar out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, was testifying. 18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign. 19 The Perushim therefore said among themselves, "See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him."

עליהם לא יבול, כל מעשיהם יצליח.
4 לא כן רשעים, כמוץ הרוח. 5 לכן לא יעמדו רשעים במשפט,
וגם לא יחטאים בקהל צדיקים.
6 כי ה' שומר דרך צדיקים,
ודרך רשעים נידונה.

4 הוציאני מרשת טמנו לתפיני, כי אתה מעוזי.
5 בידך אפקיד רוחי,
אתה תגאולי, ה' אלוהי אמת. 6 אני שונא את עובדי אלילים שווא; ואני, על ה' אני בוטח.
7 אשמח ואשמח בחסדך,
כי אתה רואה את צערי,
אתה יודע כמה צר לי.
8 לא מסרתני ביד אויב; הנחתי רגליי במקום שאלך בחופשיות.
9 חנן אותי, ה', כי בצרה אני.

11 אני בז לכל צרי, ויותר משכני; אפילו למכרים אני מושא פחד כי יראו אותי ברחוב,

12 כמת, נעלמתי מלבם;
הייתי כמו סיר שבור.
13 כל שאני שומע לחישה, אימה סביבי; הם זוממים עליי יחד, זוממים לקחת את חיי.
14 אבל אני, בך יהוה אני בוטח; אני אומר, "אתה אלוהי".
15 עיתיי בידך; הצילני מיד אויבי, מרודפי.

כי קראתיך; יתחשפו רשעים,

המדברים חצופים על צדיקים בגאווה ובוז.
19 אך מה גדול טובך, אשר צמרת ליראיך, אשר אתה עושה לחסים בך לעיני אנשים!
20 במחסה פניך אתה מסתיר אותם מזימות אדם,
במחסה שלך אתה מסתיר אותם, בטוח מלשון ריב.
21 ברוך ה'!
כי הראה לי חסדו הפליא בהיותי בעיר נצורה.
22 ואני בבהלתי אמרתי: "נגרדתי מעיניך!"
ובכל זאת שמעת תחנוני בצעקתי אליך.
23 אהבו את ה', נאמניו.
ה' שומר נאמנים, וגאים ישלם.
24 חזקו, ומלאו את לבבכם אומץ, כל מי שמקוה לה'.

19 וּמַה גָּדוֹל טוֹבְךָ,
אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַרְתָּ לַיְרָאִיךָ,
אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה לַחֲסֵי בֶּךָ,
לעיני אנשים!
20 בְסֵת פְּנֵיךָ תְסְתִּירָם מִזִּימְלוֹת אָדָם,
תְסְתִּירָם בְּסֵתֶךָ, מִשְׁפָּנִים מִדִּבְרֵי מִדִּבְרֵי מִשְׁפָּט.
21 ברוך ה'! כי הראה לי חסדו הפליא בהיותי בעיר נצורה.
22 ואני בבהלתי אמרתי: "נגרעתי מעיניך!"
ובכל זאת שמעת תחנוני כשקראתי אליך.
23 אהבו את ה', נאמניו. ה' שומר נאמנים,
וגאים ישלם.
24 חזקו, ומלאו את לבכם אומץ,
כל מקווים לה'.

בצל שדי לילותיך,

עד מתי ישמחו לצים בלגלוג?
עד מתי ישנאו טיפשים דעת?
23 חזרו בתשובה כשאוכח - אשפוך רוחי עליכם,
אודיע לכם את דברי.
24 כי סירבתם בקראתי,
ואיש לא שם לב כששלחתי את ידי,
25 ובמקום זאת הזנחתם את עצתי ולא קיבלתם את תוכחתי;
26 אני, בתורי, אצחק בצרתכם,
ואלעג כשיבוא עליכם אימה.
27 כן, כשאימה תשיג אתכם כסערה ואסוןכם יקרב כסופה, כשמצוקה וצרה תקפו אתכם.
28 ויקראו לי, ולא אענה;
יבקשו אותי בקשות, ולא ימצאו אותי. 29 כי שנאו דעת ולא בחרו ביראת ה',
30 מרבו לעצתי ובזו לתוכחתי.
31 אז ישאו את תוצאות דרכם
ויתמלאו מזימותיהם.
32 כי תעניתם הבל של חסרי מחשבה תמיתם,
והשחצנותם יתר על המידה של כסילים תשמידם;

כט:א וַיְקַבְּצוּ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּים אֶת כָּל-צְבָאוֹתָם אֶל-אֶפֶק, וְהַיִשְׂרָאֵל חָנָה עַל-הַמְּעִין אֲשֶׁר בִּיזְרְעָאֵל. ב וַיַּעֲבוּ שְׂרֵי הַפְּלִשְׁתִּים מַאֲשֶׁר הֵעָבִים הֵלָּה עוֹשִׂים. וַיֹּאמֶר שְׂרֵי הַפְּלִשְׁתִּים מַה הֵעָבִים הֵלָּה עֲמִידָתִי הַיָּמִים אוֹ שָׁנִים הֵן, וְלֹא מָצָאתִי בוֹ פֶּק מֵאַחֲרָתוֹ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. ד וַיַּעֲמוּ שְׂרֵי הַפְּלִשְׁתִּים בָּעָלָיו; ויאמרו אליו שרי הפלשתים, השב את האיש וישוב אל מקומו אשר צויתנו, ואל ירד עמנו למלחמה, פן יהיה לנו לצר במלחמה: כי במה יכפר זה עם אדניו? ומה מצאת בעבדך מימים ימימה שאני לפניך עד היום הזה, כי לא אלך ואלחם באויבי אדוני המלך? ט ויען אכיש אל דוד ידעתי כי טוב אתה בעיניי כמלאך אלהים, אך אמרו שרי הפלשתים לא יעלה עמנו למלחמה. י ועתה השכם בבוקר עם עבדי אדוניך אשר באו עמך, וכשהשכם בבוקר והאור לכם, צאו. יא וישם דוד הוא ואנשיו ללכת בבוקר ולשוב אל ארץ הפלשתים. הפלשתים עלו יזרעאל. ל:1 ויהי כי-בא דוד ואנשיו ציקלג ביום השלישי ופשט עמלקים על הנגב ועל ציקלג ויכוּ את ציקלג וישרפו אותה באש. ב ואת הנשים אשר בה שבים מקטנה ועד גדול לא-הרגו איש ולקחו אותם וילכו לדרכם. ג וכאשר דוד ואנשיו באו העיר והנה היא שרפה באש ונשיהם ובניהם ובנתיהם נשבו. ד וישאו דוד והעם אשר-עמו את-קולם ויבכו עד-לא-היה להם עוד כוח לבכות. ה שתי נשות דוד נשבו אחינעם היזרעאלי ואביגיל אשת נבל הכרמלי. ו ויגרה דוד מאוד; כי העם דיבר לסקלו כי נפש כל העם עצבה איש על בניו ועל בנותיו ויחזק דוד בה' אלהיו. ז ויאמר דוד אל אביתר הכהן בן אחימלך הביא נא לי את האפוד והביא אביתר שם את האפוד אל דוד. ח וישאל דוד את ה' לאמר אם ארדוף אחרי הגדוד הזה האשיג אותם ויאמר לו רדוף כי השיג תשיג אותם והצלת תשיב את כולם. ט וילך דוד הוא ושש מאות איש אשר עמו ויבואו אל נחל בשור אשר שם ישבו הנשארים. י ודוד רדוף הוא וארבע מאות איש כי מאתיים איש נשארו אשר תשארו עייפים ולא יכלו לעבור את נחל בשור יא וימצאו איש מצרִי בשדה ויביאוהו אל דוד ויתנו לו לחם ויאכל וישתו לו מים. יב ויתנו לו פת תאנים ושני אשכולות צימוקים ויאכל ותשב אליו רוחו כי לא אכל לחם ולא שתה מים שלשה ימים ושלשה לילות. יג ויאמר אליו דוד למי אתה ומאין אתה ויאמר אני נער מצרים עבד לאיש עמלק ואדני עזבני כי לפני שלשה ימים חליתי. יד פשטנו על נגב הכרתי ועל אשר ליהודה ועל נגב כלב ונשרוף את ציקלג באש. טו ויאמר אליו דוד התורידני אל הגדוד הזה ויאמר, השבע לי באלהים, כי לא תהרגני, ולא תמסרני ביד אדני, ואורידך אל-הגדוד הזה. טז, ויורד אתו, והנה הם מפוזרים על פני כל הארץ, אוכלים ושותים ורוקדים, על כל השלל הרב אשר לקחו מארץ הפלשתים ומארץ יהודה.יז וַיַּכֵּם דָּוִד מֵאֶרֶב הַמָּחָר וְלֹא-בָלַט מֵהֶם אִישׁ כָּל-אֶלֶךְ אַרְבַּע מֵאוֹת נַעֲרִים וַיַּרְכוּ עַל-גַּמְלִים וַיָּבֹרוּ. יח וַיְשַׁב דָּוִד אֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר שָׁקַח הַעַמְלֵקִי וַיְשַׁלֵּל אֶת-שְׁתֵּי נְשָׁיו. יט וַיִּחָסֵר לָהֶם מַאֲבָר לֹא קָטֹן וְגָדוֹל וְלֹא בָּנִים וְלֹא-בָנִים וַיֹּאמְרוּ זֶה שֶׁל דָּוִד. 21 וַיָּבֹא דָּוִד אֶל-מָאתֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים וְלֹא-יָכֹל לִלָּכֹת אַחֲרֵי דָּוִד וַיַּשְׁכְּבוּ אֲשֶׁר לָעֲבֹד בַּנַּחַל בְשׁוּר וַיֵּצְאוּ לִקְרֹא אֶת-דָּוִד וְלִקְרֹא אֶת-הָעָם אֲשֶׁר עִמּוֹ וַיִּגָּרַם אֶל-הָעָם וַיִּשְׁבֹר׃ 22 ויעננו כל הרשעים והבזויים, מאלה אשר הלכו עם דוד, ויאמרו, יען שלא הלכו עמנו, לא ניתן להם דבר מן השלל אשר שלטנו, כי אם לאיש את אשתו ואת בניו, ויוביל אותם וילך. 23 ויאמר דוד, לא תעשו כן אחי, במה שנתן לנו ה', אשר שמר אותנו, ונתן את הגדוד אשר בא עלינו בידנו. 24 מי ישמע לכם בדבר הזה? 11:55 ופסח היהודים קרב. רבים עלו לירושלים מחוץ לפסח לפני הפסח, כדי להיטהר. 56 אז חיפשו את ישוע ודברו זה עם זה, בעמדם בבית המקדש, "מה דעתכם? האם הוא לא בא לחגוג?" 57 וראשי הכוהנים והפרושים ציוו שאם מישהו יודע היכן הוא, יודיע על כך כדי שיתפסו.
12:1 לכן, ששה ימים לפני הפסח, בא ישוע לבית עניה, שם היה אלעזר, אשר מת, אשר הקים מן המתים. 2 והם הכינו לו שם סעודה. מרתא שירתה, ואלעזר היה אחד מהישבים עמו לשולחן. 3 מרים לקחה קילו משחה של נרד טהור, יקר מאוד, משחה את רגלי ישוע וניגבה את רגליו בשערה. הבית מלא ריח המשחה. 4 יהודה בן שמעון הקריות, אחד מתלמידיו, אשר עמד לבגוד בו, אמר: 5 "מדוע לא נמכרה המשחה הזו בשלוש מאות דינרים וניתנה לעניים?" 6 לא אמר זאת משום שדאג לעניים, אלא משום שהיה גנב, ובהחזיק בקופת הכסף, נהג לגנוב את מה שהוכנס לתוכה. 7 אך ישוע אמר: "הניחו לה, היא שמרה אותה ליום קבורתי. 8 כי העניים תמיד עמכם, ואני לא תמיד עמכם." 9 קהל רב יהודים נודע לו שהוא שם, והם באו לא רק למען ישוע, אלא גם כדי לראות את אלעזר, אשר הקים מן המתים. 10 אבל ראשי הכוהנים קשרו קשר להמית גם את אלעזר, 11 כי בגללו הלכו יהודים רבים והאמינו בישוע. 12 למחרת בא המון רב לחגוג. כששמעו שישוע בא לירושלים, 13 לקחו את ענפי הדקלים, יצאו לקראתו וצעקו: "הושענה! ברוך הבא בשם ה' מלך ישראל!" 14 ישוע מצא חמור צעיר וישב עליו, ככתוב: 15 "אל פחדי בת ציון, הנה מלכך בא, רוכב על עיר חמור". 16 תלמידיו לא הבינו את הדברים האלה בתחילה, אך כאשר ישוע התפאר, נזכרו כי הדברים האלה נכתבו עליו, וכי הם עשו לו את הדברים האלה. 17 ההמון אשר היה איתו כאשר קרא לאלעזר מן הקבר והקים אותו מן המתים, העיד. 18 מסיבה זו גם הלך ההמון לקראתו, כי שמעו כי עשה את האות הזה. 19 אמרו הפרושים בינם לבין עצמם: "ראו כיצד אינכם עושים דבר. הנה, העולם רודף אחריו."

G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
