Of
David.
1
Vindicate
me, O LORD,
for
I have led a blameless life;
I
have trusted in the LORD
without
wavering.
2
Test
me, O LORD, and try me,
examine
my heart and my mind;
3
for
your love is ever before me,
and
I walk continually in your truth.
4
I
do not sit with deceitful men,
nor
do I consort with hypocrites;
5
I
abhor the assembly of evildoers
and
refuse to sit with the wicked.
6
I
wash my hands in innocence,
and
go about your altar, O LORD,
7
proclaiming
aloud your praise
and
telling of all your wonderful deeds.
8
I
love the house where you live, O LORD,
the
place where your glory dwells.
9
Do
not take away my soul along with sinners,
my
life with bloodthirsty men,
10
in
whose hands are wicked schemes,
whose
right hands are full of bribes.
11
But
I lead a blameless life;
redeem
me and be merciful to me.
12
My
feet stand on level ground;
in
the great assembly I will praise the LORD. [1]
PSALMS: 56
For
the director of music. To the tune of "A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A
miktam. A When the Philistines had seized him in
Gath.
1
Be
merciful to me, O God, for men hotly pursue me;
all
day long they press their attack.
2
My
slanderers pursue me all day long;
many
are attacking me in their pride.
3
When
I am afraid,
I
will trust in you.
4
In
God, whose word I praise,
in
God I trust; I will not be afraid.
What
can mortal man do to me?
5
All
day long they twist my words;
they
are always plotting to harm me.
6
They
conspire, they lurk,
they
watch my steps,
eager
to take my life.
7
On
no account let them escape;
in
your anger, O God, bring down the nations.
8
Record
my lament;
list
my tears on your scroll B--
are
they not in your record?
9
Then
my enemies will turn back
when
I call for help.
By
this I will know that God is for me.
10
In
God, whose word I praise,
in
the LORD, whose word I praise--
11
in
God I trust; I will not be afraid.
What
can man do to me? [2]
12
I
am under vows to you, O God;
I
will present my thank offerings to you.
13
For
you have delivered me C from death
and
my feet from stumbling,
that
I may walk before God
in
the light of life. D [3]
PSALMS: 86
A
prayer of David.
1
Hear,
O LORD, and answer me,
for
I am poor and needy.
2
Guard
my life, for I am devoted to you.
You
are my God; save your servant
who
trusts in you.
3
Have
mercy on me, O Lord,
for
I call to you all day long.
4
Bring
joy to your servant,
for
to you, O Lord,
I
lift up my soul.
5
You
are forgiving and good, O Lord,
abounding
in love to all who call to you.
6
Hear
my prayer, O LORD;
listen
to my cry for mercy.
7
In
the day of my trouble I will call to you,
for
you will answer me.
8
Among
the gods there is none like you, O Lord;
no
deeds can compare with yours.
9
All
the nations you have made
will
come and worship before you, O Lord;
they
will bring glory to your name.
10
For
you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you
alone are God. [4]
11
Teach
me your way, O LORD,
and
I will walk in your truth;
give
me an undivided heart,
that
I may fear your name.
12
I
will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I
will glorify your name forever.
13
For
great is your love toward me;
you
have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
A
14
The
arrogant are attacking me, O God;
a
band of ruthless men seeks my life--
men
without regard for you.
15
But
you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow
to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16
Turn
to me and have mercy on me;
grant
your strength to your servant
and
save the son of your maidservant. B
17
Give
me a sign of your goodness,
that
my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for
you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me. [5]
PSALMS: 116
1
I
love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he
heard my cry for mercy.
2
Because
he turned his ear to me,
I
will call on him as long as I live.
3
The
cords of death entangled me,
the
anguish of the grave A came upon me;
I
was overcome by trouble and sorrow.
4
Then
I called on the name of the LORD:
"O
LORD, save me!"
5
The
LORD is gracious and righteous;
our
God is full of compassion.
6
The
LORD protects the simplehearted;
when
I was in great need, he saved me.
7
Be
at rest once more, O my soul,
for
the LORD has been good to you.
8
For
you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death,
my
eyes from tears,
my
feet from stumbling,
9
that
I may walk before the LORD
in
the land of the living.
10
I
believed; therefore B I said,
"I
am greatly afflicted."
11
And
in my dismay I said,
"All
men are liars."
12
How
can I repay the LORD
for
all his goodness to me?
13
I
will lift up the cup of salvation
and
call on the name of the LORD.
14
I
will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in
the presence of all his people. [6]
15
Precious
in the sight of the LORD
is
the death of his saints.
16
O
LORD, truly I am your servant;
I
am your servant, the son of your maidservant C;
you
have freed me from my chains.
17
I
will sacrifice a thank offering to you
and
call on the name of the LORD.
18
I
will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in
the presence of all his people,
19
in
the courts of the house of the LORD--
in
your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise
the LORD. D [7]
PSALMS: 146
1
Praise
the LORD. A
Praise
the LORD, O my soul.
2
I
will praise the LORD all my life;
I
will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
3
Do
not put your trust in princes,
in
mortal men, who cannot save.
4
When
their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on
that very day their plans come to nothing.
5
Blessed
is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose
hope is in the LORD his God,
6the
Maker of heaven and earth,
the
sea, and everything in them--
the
LORD, who remains faithful forever.
7
He
upholds the cause of the oppressed
and
gives food to the hungry.
The
LORD sets prisoners free,
8
the
LORD gives sight to the blind,
the
LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
the
LORD loves the righteous.
9
The
LORD watches over the alien
and
sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but
he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10
The
LORD reigns forever,
your
God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise
the LORD. [8]

1
Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,
honor
is not fitting for a fool.
2
Like
a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,
an
undeserved curse does not come to rest.
3
A
whip for the horse, a halter for the donkey,
and
a rod for the backs of fools!
4
Do
not answer a fool according to his folly,
or
you will be like him yourself.
5
Answer
a fool according to his folly,
or
he will be wise in his own eyes.
6
Like
cutting off one's feet or drinking violence
is
the sending of a message by the hand of a fool.
7
Like
a lame man's legs that hang limp
is
a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
8
Like
tying a stone in a sling
is
the giving of honor to a fool.
9
Like
a thornbush in a drunkard's hand
is
a proverb in the mouth of a fool.
10
Like
an archer who wounds at random
is
he who hires a fool or any passer-by.
11
As
a dog returns to its vomit,
so
a fool repeats his folly.
There
is more hope for a fool than for him.
13
The
sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road,
a
fierce lion roaming the streets!"
14
As
a door turns on its hinges,
so
a sluggard turns on his bed.
15
The
sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he
is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16
The
sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
than
seven men who answer discreetly.
17
Like
one who seizes a dog by the ears
is
a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18
Like
a madman shooting
firebrands
or deadly arrows
19
is
a man who deceives his neighbor
and
says, "I was only joking!"
20
Without
wood a fire goes out;
without
gossip a quarrel dies down.
21
As
charcoal to embers and as wood to fire,
so
is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife. [10]
22
The
words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
they
go down to a man's inmost parts.
23
Like
a coating of glaze A over earthenware
are
fervent lips with an evil heart.
24
A
malicious man disguises himself with his lips,
but
in his heart he harbors deceit.
25
Though
his speech is charming, do not believe him,
for
seven abominations fill his heart.
26
His
malice may be concealed by deception,
but
his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27
If
a man digs a pit, he will fall into it;
if
a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him.
28
A
lying tongue hates those it hurts,
and
a flattering mouth works ruin. [11]
OLD
TESTAMENT: MICAH 5:1 - 7:20
5
1
Marshal your troops, O city of troops, A
for
a siege is laid against us.
They
will strike Israel's ruler
on
the cheek with a rod.
2
"But
you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though
you are small among the clans B of Judah,
out
of you will come for me
one
who will be ruler over Israel,
whose
origins C are from of old,
from
ancient times. D"
3
Therefore
Israel will be abandoned
until
the time when she who is in labor gives birth
and
the rest of his brothers return
to
join the Israelites.
4
He
will stand and shepherd his flock
in
the strength of the LORD,
in
the majesty of the name of the LORD his God.
And
they will live securely, for then his greatness
will
reach to the ends of the earth.
5
And he will be their peace.
When
the Assyrian invades our land [12]
and
marches through our fortresses,
we
will raise against him seven shepherds,
even
eight leaders of men.
6
They
will rule E the land of Assyria with the sword,
the
land of Nimrod with drawn sword. F
He
will deliver us from the Assyrian
when
he invades our land
and
marches into our borders.
7
The
remnant of Jacob will be
in
the midst of many peoples
like
dew from the LORD,
like
showers on the grass,
which
do not wait for man
or
linger for mankind.
8
The
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations,
in
the midst of many peoples,
like
a lion among the beasts of the forest,
like
a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which
mauls and mangles as it goes,
and
no one can rescue.
9
Your
hand will be lifted up in triumph over your enemies,
and
all your foes will be destroyed.
10
"In that day," declares the LORD,
"I will destroy your horses from among you
and
demolish your chariots.
[13]
11 I
will destroy the cities of your land
and
tear down all your strongholds.
12 I
will destroy your witchcraft
and
you will no longer cast spells.
13 I
will destroy your carved images
and
your sacred stones from among you;
you
will no longer bow down
to
the work of your hands.
14
I
will uproot from among you your Asherah poles G
and
demolish your cities.
15 I
will take vengeance in anger and wrath
upon
the nations that have not obeyed me."
6
1
Listen
to what the LORD says:
"Stand up, plead your case before the mountains;
let
the hills hear what you have to say.
2 Hear,
O mountains, the LORD's accusation;
listen,
you everlasting foundations of the earth.
For
the LORD has a case against his people;
he
is lodging a charge against Israel.
3
"My people, what have I done to you?
How
have I burdened you? Answer me.
and
redeemed you from the land of slavery.
I
sent Moses to lead you,
also
Aaron and Miriam.
5 My
people, remember
what
Balak king of Moab counseled
and
what Balaam son of Beor answered.
Remember
your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,
that
you may know the righteous acts of the LORD."
6
With
what shall I come before the LORD
and
bow down before the exalted God?
Shall
I come before him with burnt offerings,
with
calves a year old?
7
Will
the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with
ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall
I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the
fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8
He
has showed you, O man, what is good.
And
what does the LORD require of you?
To
act justly and to love mercy
and
to walk humbly with your God.
9
Listen!
The LORD is calling to the city-- [15]
and
to fear your name is wisdom--
"Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.
A
10
Am
I still to forget, O wicked house,
your
ill-gotten treasures
and
the short ephah, B which is accursed?
11
Shall
I acquit a man with dishonest scales,
with
a bag of false weights?
12
Her
rich men are violent;
her
people are liars
and
their tongues speak deceitfully.
13
Therefore,
I have begun to destroy you,
to
ruin you because of your sins.
14
You
will eat but not be satisfied;
your
stomach will still be empty. C
You
will store up but save nothing,
because
what you save I will give to the sword.
15
You
will plant but not harvest;
you
will press olives but not use the oil on yourselves,
you
will crush grapes but not drink the wine.
16
You
have observed the statutes of Omri
and
all the practices of Ahab's house,
and
you have followed their traditions.
Therefore
I will give you over to ruin
and
your people to derision;
you
will bear the scorn of the nations. D" [16]
7
1
What misery is mine!
I
am like one who gathers summer fruit
at
the gleaning of the vineyard;
there
is no cluster of grapes to eat,
none
of the early figs that I crave.
2
The
godly have been swept from the land;
not
one upright man remains.
All
men lie in wait to shed blood;
each
hunts his brother with a net.
3
Both
hands are skilled in doing evil;
the
ruler demands gifts,
the
judge accepts bribes,
the
powerful dictate what they desire--
they
all conspire together.
4
The
best of them is like a brier,
the
most upright worse than a thorn hedge.
The
day of your watchmen has come,
the
day God visits you.
Now
is the time of their confusion.
5
Do
not trust a neighbor;
put
no confidence in a friend.
Even
with her who lies in your embrace
be
careful of your words.
6
For
a son dishonors his father,
a
daughter rises up against her mother,
a
daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--
a
man's enemies are the members of his own household. [17]
7
But
as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD,
I
wait for God my Savior;
my
God will hear me.
8
Do
not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though
I have fallen, I will rise.
Though
I sit in darkness,
the
LORD will be my light.
9
Because
I have sinned against him,
I
will bear the LORD's wrath,
until
he pleads my case
and
establishes my right.
He
will bring me out into the light;
I
will see his righteousness.
10
Then
my enemy will see it
and
will be covered with shame,
she
who said to me,
"Where
is the LORD your God?"
My
eyes will see her downfall;
even
now she will be trampled underfoot
like
mire in the streets.
11
The
day for building your walls will come,
the
day for extending your boundaries.
12
In
that day people will come to you
from
Assyria and the cities of Egypt, [18]
even
from Egypt to the Euphrates
and
from sea to sea
and
from mountain to mountain.
13
The
earth will become desolate because of its inhabitants,
as
the result of their deeds.
14
Shepherd
your people with your staff,
the
flock of your inheritance,
which
lives by itself in a forest,
in
fertile pasturelands. A
Let
them feed in Bashan and Gilead
as
in days long ago.
15
"As in the days when you came out of Egypt,
I
will show them my wonders."
16
Nations
will see and be ashamed,
deprived
of all their power.
They
will lay their hands on their mouths
and
their ears will become deaf.
17
They
will lick dust like a snake,
like
creatures that crawl on the ground.
They
will come trembling out of their dens;
they
will turn in fear to the LORD our God
and
will be afraid of you. [19]
18
Who
is a God like you,
who
pardons sin and forgives the transgression
of
the remnant of his inheritance?
You
do not stay angry forever
but
delight to show mercy.
19
You
will again have compassion on us;
you
will tread our sins underfoot
and
hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
20
You
will be true to Jacob,
and
show mercy to Abraham,
as
you pledged on oath to our fathers
in
days long ago. [20]
NEW
TESTAMENT: REVELATION 7:1 -
17
7
1
After
this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back
the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on
the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the
east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the
four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3
"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees
until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4
Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the
tribes of Israel.
5
From
the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from
the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from
the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6
from
the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from
the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from
the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7
from
the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from
the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from
the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8
from
the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from
the tribe of Joseph 12,000,
from
the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
9
After
this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count,
from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in
front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches
in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our God,
who
sits on the throne,
and
to the Lamb."
11
All
the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four
living creatures. They fell down on their faces [21]
before the throne and worshiped God,
12
saying:
"Amen!
Praise
and glory
and
wisdom and thanks and honor
and
power and strength
be
to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!"
13
Then
one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did
they come from?"
14
I
answered, "Sir, you know."
And
he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have
washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15
Therefore,
"they
are before the throne of God
and
serve him day and night in his temple;
and
he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
16
Never
again will they hunger;
never
again will they thirst.
The
sun will not beat upon them,
nor
any scorching heat.
17
For
the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he
will lead them to springs of living water.
And
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." [22]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
