you have set in place,

LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger

discipline me in your wrath.

guilt has overwhelmed me
like
a burden too heavy to bear.

My
wounds fester and are loathsome

Sing
to God, sing praise to his name,
extol

A
father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is
God in his holy dwelling.

God

Lord announced the word,

"Kings and armies flee in haste;

When
the Almighty D scattered the kings in the land,
it
was like snow fallen on Zalmon.

The
mountains of Bashan are majestic mountains;
rugged
are the mountains of Bashan.

Why
gaze in envy, O rugged mountains,
at
the mountain where God chooses to reign,
where
the LORD himself will dwell forever?
17
The
chariots of God are tens of thousands
and
thousands of thousands;
the
Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.
18
When
you ascended on high,
you
led captives in your train;
you
received gifts from men,
even
from E the rebellious--
that
you, F O LORD God, might dwell there.
19
Praise
be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who
daily bears our burdens.

Our
God is a God who saves;
from
the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.

Surely
God will crush the heads of his enemies,
the
hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.

The
Lord says, "I will bring them from
Bashan;
I
will bring them from the depths of the sea,

that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes,
while
the tongues of your dogs have their share."

Your
procession has come into view, O God,
the
procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.

In
front are the singers, after them the musicians;
with
them are the maidens playing tambourines.

Praise
God in the great congregation;
praise
the LORD in the assembly of Israel.
27
There
is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them,
there
the great throng of Judah's princes,
and
there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.
28
Summon
your power, O God G;
show
us your strength, O God, as you have done before.
29
Because
of your temple at Jerusalem
kings
will bring you gifts.
30
Rebuke
the beast among the reeds,
the
herd of bulls among the calves of the nations.
Humbled,
may it bring bars of silver.
Scatter
the nations who delight in war.

Envoys
will come from Egypt;

Sing
to God, O kingdoms of the earth,

A
psalm.
1
Sing
to the LORD a new song,
for
he has done marvelous things;
his
right hand and his holy arm
have
worked salvation for him.
2
The
LORD has made his salvation known
and
revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3
He
has remembered his love
and
his faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all
the ends of the earth have seen
the
salvation of our God.
4
Shout
for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst
into jubilant song with music;
5
make
music to the LORD with the harp,
with
the harp and the sound of singing,
6
with
trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn--
shout
for joy before the LORD, the King.
7
Let
the sea resound, and everything in it,
the
world, and all who live in it.

Let
the rivers clap their hands,
let
the mountains sing together for joy;

them sing before the LORD,
for
he comes to judge the earth.

will judge the world in righteousness

A
song of ascents.

Blessed
are all who fear the LORD,
who
walk in his ways.

You
will eat the fruit of your labor;
blessings
and prosperity will be yours.
3
Your
wife will be like a fruitful vine
within
your house;
your
sons will be like olive shoots
around
your table.
4
Thus
is the man blessed
who
fears the LORD.
5
May
the LORD bless you from Zion
all
the days of your life;
may
you see the prosperity of Jerusalem,

8
1
Does not wisdom call out?
Does
not understanding raise her voice?
2
On
the heights along the way,
where
the paths meet, she takes her stand;
3
beside
the gates leading into the city,
at
the entrances, she cries aloud:
4
"To you, O men, I call out;
I
raise my voice to all mankind.
5 You
who are simple, gain prudence;
you
who are foolish, gain understanding.
6
Listen,
for I have worthy things to say;
I
open my lips to speak what is right.
7 My
mouth speaks what is true,
for
my lips detest wickedness.
8 All
the words of my mouth are just;
none
of them is crooked or perverse.
9 To
the discerning all of them are right;
they
are faultless to those who have knowledge.
10 Choose
my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge
rather than choice gold,
11 for
wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and
nothing you desire can compare with her.
12
"I, wisdom, dwell together with
prudence;
I
possess knowledge and discretion.
13 To
fear the LORD is to hate evil;
I
hate pride and arrogance,
evil
behavior and perverse speech.
14 Counsel
and sound judgment are mine;
I
have understanding and power.

me kings reign
and
rulers make laws that are just;

all nobles who rule on earth. A

to my instruction and be wise;

receives favor from the LORD.

whoever fails to find me harms himself;

1
King
Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with
them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to
bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his fatherA
had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his
wives and his concubines might drink from them. 3 So they brought in
the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and
the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4
As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of
bronze, iron, wood and stone.
5
Suddenly
the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near
the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6
His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked
together and his legs gave way.
7
The
king called out for the enchanters, astrologers B and diviners to be
brought and said to these wise men of Babylon, "Whoever reads this writing and
tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed
around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom."
8
Then
all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the
king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified
and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled.
10
The
queen, C hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the
banquet hall. "O king, live forever!" she said. "Don't be alarmed! Don't look so
pale! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the
holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and
intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your
father--your father the king, I say--appointed him chief of the magicians,
enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 This man Daniel, whom the
king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and
understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and
solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing
means."
13
So
Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, "Are you Daniel,
one of the exiles my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have
heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight,
intelligence and outstanding wisdom.
15
The
wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and tell me
what it means, but they could not explain it. 16 Now I have heard
that you are able to give interpretations and to solve difficult problems. If
you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will be clothed in
purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will be made the
third highest ruler in the kingdom."
17
Then
Daniel answered the king, "You may keep your gifts for yourself and give your
rewards to someone else. Nevertheless, I will read the writing for the king and
tell him what it means.
18
"O
king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty and
greatness and glory and splendor. 19 Because of the high position he
gave him, all the peoples and nations and men of every language dreaded and
feared him. Those the king wanted to put to death, he [14]put
to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he
promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled. 20 But when his
heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal
throne and stripped of his glory. 21 He was driven away from people
and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass
like cattle; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he
acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and
sets over them anyone he wishes.
22
"But
you his son, D O Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, though you
knew all this. 23 Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord
of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your
nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the
gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or
hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your
life and all your ways. 24 Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the
inscription.
25
"This
is the inscription that was written:
MENE,
MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN

"This is what these words mean:
Mene
F:
God has numbered the days of your reign and brought
it to an end.
27
Tekel
G:
You have been weighed on the scales and found
wanting.
28
Peres
H:
Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and
Persians."
29
Then
at Belshazzar's command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed
around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
30
That
very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, I was slain, 31
and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two. [15]
NEW
TESTAMENT: 2 PETER 2:1 -

2 1 But there were also
false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you.
They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign
Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2
Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into
disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with
stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them,
and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4 For if God did not spare
angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, A putting them into
gloomy dungeonsB to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not
spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but
protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if
he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made
them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if
he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of
lawless men 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after
day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and
heard)—9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men
from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while
continuing their punishment. C 10 This is especially true
of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature D and
despise authority.
Bold and arrogant, these
men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; 11yet even angels,
although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous
accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord. 12 But
these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute
beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like
beasts they too will perish.
13 They will be paid back
with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in
broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while
they feast with you. E 14 With eyes full of adultery, they
never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed--an
accursed brood! 15 They have left the straight way and wandered off
to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.
16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey--a beast without
speech--who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.
17 These men are springs
without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for
them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to
the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just
escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom,
while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever
has mastered him. 20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world
by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and
overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21
It would have been better for them not to have known the way of
righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred
command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true:
"A dog returns to [16]
its vomit," F and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the
mud." [17]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
