DECEMBER 30

PSALMS: 30, 60, 90, 120, 150

PROVERBS: 30

OLD TESTAMENT: NUMBERS 32:1 - 33:39

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 4:31 - 5:11

PSALMS: 30

1 I will extol you, LORD, for you have raised me up,

And have not made my foes to rejoice over me.

2 LORD my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me.

3 LORD, you have brought up my soul from She'ol.

You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4 Sing praise to the LORD, you holy ones of his.

Give thanks to his holy name.

5 For his anger is but for a moment;

His favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may stay for the night,

But joy comes in the morning.

6 As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved."

7 You, LORD, when you favored me, made my mountain to stand strong.

But when you hid your face, I was troubled.

8 I cried to you, LORD.

To the LORD I made supplication:

9 "What profit is there in my destruction, if I go down to the pit?

Shall the dust praise you?

Shall it declare your truth?

10 Hear, LORD, and have mercy on me. LORD, be my helper."

11 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me.

You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,

12 To the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent.

LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

PSALMS: 60

1 God, you have rejected us.

You have broken us down.

You have been angry.

Restore us to you, again.

2 You have made the land tremble.

You have torn it.

Mend its fractures,

For it quakes.

3 You have shown your people hard things.

You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

4 You have given a banner to those who fear you,

That it may be displayed because of the truth.

Selah.

5 So that your beloved may be delivered,

Save with your right hand, and answer us.

6 God has spoken from his sanctuary:

"I will triumph.

I will divide Shekhem,

And measure out the valley of Sukkot.

7 Gil`ad is mine, and Menashsheh is mine.

Efrayim also is the defense of my head.

Yehudah is my scepter.

8 Mo'av is my wash basin.

I will throw my shoe on Edom.

I shout in triumph over Peleshet."

9 Who will bring me into the strong city?

Who has led me to Edom?

10 Haven't you, God, rejected us?

You don't go out with our armies, God.

11 Give us help against the adversary,

For the help of man is vain.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly,

For it is he who will tread down our adversaries.

PSALMS: 90

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place In all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth,

Or ever you had formed the eretz and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

3 You turn man to destruction, saying,

"Return, you children of men."

4 For a thousand years in your sight

Are but as yesterday when it is past,

As a watch in the night.

5 You sweep them away as they sleep.

In the morning they sprout like new grass.

6 In the morning it sprouts and springs up.

By evening, it is withered and dry.

7 For we are consumed in your anger.

We are troubled in your wrath.

8 You have set our iniquities before you,

Our secret sins in the light of your presence.

9 For all our days have passed away in your wrath.

We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

10 The days of our years are seventy,

Or even by reason of strength eighty years;

Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow,

For it passes quickly, and we fly away.

11 Who knows the power of your anger,

Your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?

12 So teach us to number our days,

That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

13 Relent, LORD! How long?

Have compassion on your servants.

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness,

That we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,

For as many years as we have seen evil.

16 Let your work appear to your servants;

Your glory to their children.

17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;

Establish the work of our hands for us;

Yes, establish the work of our hands.

PSALMS: 120

1 The LORD says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,

Until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet."

2 The LORD will send forth the rod of your strength out of Tziyon.

Rule in the midst of your enemies.

3 Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power,

In holy array.

Out of the womb of the morning,

you have the dew of your youth.

4 The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind:

"You are a Kohen forever in the order of Malki-Tzedek."

5 The Lord is at your right hand.

He will crush kings in the day of his wrath.

6 He will judge among the nations.

He will heap up dead bodies.

He will crush the ruler of the whole eretz.

7 He will drink of the brook in the way;

Therefore will he lift up his head.

PSALMS: 150

1 Deliver me, LORD, from the evil man.

Preserve me from the violent man;

2 Those who devise mischief in their hearts.

They continually gather themselves together for war.

3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent.

Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah.

4 LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked.

Preserve me from the violent men:

Who have determined to trip my feet.

5 The proud have hidden a snare for me,

They have spread the cords of a net by the path.

They have set traps for me. Selah.

6 I said to the LORD, "You are my God."

Listen to the cry of my petitions, LORD.

7 LORD, the Lord, the strength of my yeshu`ah,

You have covered my head in the day of battle.

8 LORD, don't grant the desires of the wicked.

Don't let their evil plans succeed,

or they will become proud.

Selah.

9 As for the head of those who surround me,

Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

10 Let burning coals fall on them.

Let them be thrown into the fire,

Into miry pits, from where they never rise.

11 An evil speaker won't be established in the eretz.

Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted,

And justice for the needy.

13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name.

The upright will dwell in your presence.

PROVERBS: 30

1 The words of Agur the son of Yakeh, the oracle:

The man says to 'Iti'el, To 'Iti'el and Ucal:

2 "Surely I am the most ignorant man,

And don't have a man's understanding.

3 I have not learned wisdom,

Neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.

4 Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended?

Who has gathered the wind in his fists?

Who has bound the waters in his garment?

Who has established all the ends of the eretz? ‘

What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know?

5 "Every word of God is flawless.

He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

6 Don't you add to his words,

Lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.

7 "Two things I have asked of you;

Don't deny me before I die:

8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies.

Give me neither poverty nor riches.

Feed me with the food that is needful for me;

9 Lest I be full, deny you, and say,

'Who is the LORD?'

Or lest I be poor, and steal,

And so dishonor the name of my God.

10 "Don't slander a servant to his master,

Lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.

11 There is a generation that curses their father,

And doesn't bless their mother.

12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes,

Yet are not washed from their filthiness.

13 There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes!

Their eyelids are lifted up.

14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,

And their jaws like knives,

To devour the poor from the eretz,

and the needy from among men.

15 "The leach has two daughters:

'Give, give.'

"There are three things that are never satisfied;

Four that don't say, 'Enough:'

16 She'ol, the barren womb;

The eretz that is not satisfied with water;

The fire that doesn't say, 'Enough;'

17 And the eye that mocks at his father,

And scorns obedience to his mother:

The ravens of the valley shall pick it out,

The young eagles shall eat it.

18 "There are three things which are too amazing for me,

Four which I don't understand:

19 The way of an eagle in the air;

The way of a serpent on a rock;

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

And the way of a man with a maiden.

20 So is the way of an adulterous woman:

She eats and wipes her mouth,

And says, 'I have done nothing wrong.'

21 "For three things the eretz tremble,

And under four, it can't bear up:

22 For a servant when he is king;

A fool when he is filled with food;

23 For an unloved woman when she is married;

And a handmaid who is heir to her mistress.

24 "There are four things which are little on the eretz,

But they are exceeding wise:

25 The ants are not a strong people,

Yet they provide their food in the summer;

26 The conies are but a feeble folk,

Yet make they their houses in the rocks;

27 The locusts have no king,

Yet they advance in ranks;

28 You can catch a lizard with your hands,

Yet she is in kings' palaces.

29 "There are three things which are stately in their march,

Four which are stately in going:

30 The lion, which is mightiest among animals,

And doesn't turn away for any;

31 The greyhound, the male goat also;

And the king against whom there is no rising up.

32 "If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself,

Or if you have thought evil,

Put your hand over your mouth.

33 For as the churning of milk brings forth butter,

And the wringing of the nose brings forth blood;

So the forcing of wrath brings forth strife."

OLD TESTAMENT: NUMBERS 32:1 - 33:39

32:1 Now the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Ya`zer, and the land of Gil`ad, that behold, the place was a place for cattle; 2 the children of Gad and the children of Re'uven came and spoke to Moshe, and to El`azar the Kohen, and to the princes of the congregation, saying, 3 ` Atrot, and Divon, and Ya`zer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and El`aleh, and Sevam, and Nevo, and Be`on, 4 the land which the LORD struck before the congregation of Yisra'el, is a land for cattle; and your servants have cattle. 5 They said, If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; don't bring us over the Yarden. 6 Moshe said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Re'uven, Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall you sit here? 7  Why discourage you the heart of the children of Yisra'el from going over into the land which the LORD has given them? 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the land. 9 For when they went up to the valley of Eshkol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Yisra'el, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them. 10 The LORD's anger was kindled in that day, and he swore, saying, 11 Surely none of the men who came up out of Mitzrayim, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov; because they have not wholly followed me: 12 save Kalev the son of Yefunneh the Kenizzi, and Yehoshua the son of Nun; because they have wholly followed the LORD. 13 The LORD's anger was kindled against Yisra'el, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, who had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed. 14 Behold, you are risen up in your fathers' place, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Yisra'el. 15 For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people. 16 They came near to him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

17  but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Yisra'el, until we have brought them to their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 We will not return to our houses, until the children of Yisra'el have inherited every man his inheritance. 19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Yarden, and forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of the Yarden eastward. 20 Moshe said to them, If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before the LORD to the war, 21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Yarden before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him, 22 and the land is subdued before the LORD; then afterward you shall return, and be guiltless towards the LORD, and towards Yisra'el; and this land shall be to you for a possession before the LORD. 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. 24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth. 25 The children of Gad and the children of Re'uven spoke to Moshe, saying, Your servants will do as my lord commands. 26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gil`ad; 27  but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord says. 28 So Moshe gave charge concerning them to El`azar the Kohen, and to Yehoshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' [houses] of the tribes of the children of Yisra'el. 29 Moshe said to them, If the children of Gad and the children of Re'uven will pass with you over the Yarden, every man who is armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then you shall give them the land of Gil`ad for a possession: 30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Kana`an. 31 The children of Gad and the children of Re'uven answered, saying, As the LORD has said to your servants, so will we do. 32  We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Kana`an, and the possession of our inheritance [shall remain] with us beyond the Yarden. 33 Moshe gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Re'uven, and to the half-tribe of Menashsheh the son of Yosef, the kingdom of Sichon king of the Amori, and the kingdom of `Og king of Bashan, the land, according to the cities of it with [their] borders, even the cities of the land round about. 34 The children of Gad built Divon, and `Atrot, and `Aro`er, 35 and `Atrot-Shofan, and Ya`zer, and Yogbehah, 36 and Beit-Nimrah, and Beth-haran: fortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37  The children of Re'uven built Heshbon, and El`aleh, and Kiryatayim, 38 and Nevo, and Ba`al-Me`on, (their names being changed,) and Sivmah: and they gave other names to the cities which they built. 39 The children of Makhir the son of Menashsheh went to Gil`ad, and took it, and dispossessed the Amori who were therein. 40 Moshe gave Gil`ad to Makhir the son of Menashsheh; and he lived therein. 41 Ya'ir the son of Menashsheh went and took the towns of it, and called them Havvot-Ya'ir. 42 Novach went and took Kenat, and the villages of it, and called it Novach, after his own name.

33:1 These are the journeys of the children of Yisra'el, when they went forth out of the land of Mitzrayim by their hosts under the hand of Moshe and Aharon. 2 Moshe wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the mitzvah of the LORD: and these are their journeys according to their goings out. 3 They journeyed from Ra`meses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the next day after the Pesach the children of Yisra'el went out with a high hand in the sight of all the Mitzrim, 4 while the Mitzrim were burying all their firstborn, whom the LORD had struck among them: on their gods also the LORD executed judgments. 5 The children of Yisra'el journeyed from Ra`meses, and encamped in Sukkot. 6 They journeyed from Sukkot, and encamped in Etam, which is in the edge of the wilderness. 7  They journeyed from Etam, and turned back to Pi-Hachirot, which is before Ba`al-Tzefon: and they encamped before Migdol. 8 They journeyed from before Hahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness: and they went three days' journey in the wilderness of Etam, and encamped in Marah. 9 They journeyed from Marah, and came to Elim: and in Elim were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there. 10 They journeyed from Elim, and encamped by the Sea of Suf. 11 They journeyed from the Sea of Suf, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin. 12 They journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dofka. 13 They journeyed from Dofka, and encamped in Alush. 14 They journeyed from Alush, and encamped in Refidim, where was no water for the people to drink. 15 They journeyed from Refidim, and encamped in the wilderness of Sinai. 16 They journeyed from the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in Kivrot-Hatta'avah. 17  They journeyed from Kivrot-Hatta'avah, and encamped in Hatzerot. 18 They journeyed from Hatzerot, and encamped in Ritmah.19 They journeyed from Ritmah, and encamped in Rimmon-Peretz. 20 They journeyed from Rimmon-Peretz, and encamped in Livna. 21 They journeyed from Livna, and encamped in Rissah. 22 They journeyed from Rissah, and encamped in Kehelatah. 23 They journeyed from Kehelatah, and encamped in Mount Shefer. 24 They journeyed from Mount Shefer, and encamped in Haradah. 25 They journeyed from Haradah, and encamped in Makhelot. 26 They journeyed from Makhelot, and encamped in Tachat. 27 They journeyed from Tachat, and encamped in Terach. 28 They journeyed from Terach, and encamped in Mitkah. 29 They journeyed from Mitkah, and encamped in Hashmonah. 30 They journeyed from Hashmonah, and encamped in Moserot. 31 They journeyed from Moserot, and encamped in Bene-Ya`akan. 32 They journeyed from Bene-Ya`akan, and encamped in Hor-Haggidgad. 33 They journeyed from Hor-Haggidgad, and encamped in Yotvatah. 34 They journeyed from Yotvatah, and encamped in `Avronah. 35 They journeyed from `Avronah, and encamped in `Etzyon-Gever. 36 They journeyed from `Etzyon-Gever, and encamped in the wilderness of Tzin (the same is Kadesh). 37  They journeyed from Kadesh, and encamped in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. 38 Aharon the Kohen went up into Mount Hor at the mitzvah of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Yisra'el were come out of the land of Mitzrayim, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month. 39 Aharon was one hundred twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 4:31 - 5:11

4:31 He came down to Kafar-Nachum, a city of the Galil. He was teaching them on the day of Shabbat, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, "Ah! what have we to do with you, Yeshua of Natzeret? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!" 35 Yeshua rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!" 37 News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region. 38 He rose up from the synagogue, and entered into Shim`on's house. Shim`on's mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him for her. 39 He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them. 40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Messiah, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn't allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Messiah. 42 When it was day, he came out and went into an uninhabited place, and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn't go away from them. 43 But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent." 44 He was preaching in the synagogues of the Galil.

5:1 Now it happened, while the multitude pressed on him and heard the word of God, that he was standing by the lake of Ginosar. 2 He saw two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 He entered into one of the boats, which was Shim`on's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. He sat down and taught the multitudes out of the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Shim`on, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch." 5 Shim`on answered him, "Master, we worked all night, and took nothing; but at your word I will let down the net." 6 When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 They beckoned to their partners in the other boat, that they should come and help them. They came, and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But Shim`on Kefa, when he saw it, fell down at Yeshua' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord." 9 For he was amazed, and all who were with him, at the catch of fish which they had caught; 10 and so also were Ya`akov and Yochanan, sons of Zavdai, who were partners with Shim`on. Yeshua said to Shim`on, "Don't be afraid. From now on you will catch men alive." 11 When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything, and followed him.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
