1 Ascribe to the LORD, you sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name.
Worship the LORD in holy array.
3 The voice of LORD is on the waters.
The God of glory thunders, even the LORD on many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful.
The voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars.
Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Levanon.
6 He makes them also to skip like a calf;
Levanon and Siryon like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning.
8 The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness.
The LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD makes the deer calve,
And strips the forests bare.
In his temple everything says, "Glory!"
10 The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood.
Yes, the LORD sits as King forever.
11 The LORD will give strength to his people.
The LORD will bless his people with shalom.
PSALMS: 59
1 Deliver me from my enemies, my God.
Set me on high from those who rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity.
Save me from the bloodthirsty men.
3 For, behold, they lie in wait for my soul.
The mighty gather themselves together against me,
Not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, LORD.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
Rise up, behold, and help me!
5 You, LORD God Tzva'ot, the God of Yisra'el,
Rouse yourself to punish the nations.
Show no mercy to the wicked traitors. Selah.
6 They return at evening, howling like dogs,
And prowl around the city.
7 Behold, they spew with their mouth.
Swords are in their lips,
"For," they say, "who hears us?"
8 But you, LORD, laugh at them.
You scoff at all the nations.
9 Oh, my Strength, I watch for you,
For God is my high tower.
10 My God will go before me with his loving kindness.
God will let me look at my enemies in triumph.
11 Don't kill them, or my people may forget.
Scatter them by your power, and bring them down,
Lord our shield.
12 For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips,
Let them be caught in their pride,
For the curses and lies which they utter.
13 Consume them in wrath.
Consume them, and they will be no more.
Let them know that God rules in Ya`akov,
To the ends of the eretz.

14 At evening let them return.
Let them howl like a dog, and go around the city.
15 They shall wander up and down for food,
And wait all night if they aren't satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength.
Yes, I will sing aloud of your loving kindness in the morning.
For you have been my high tower,
A refuge in the day of my distress.
17 To you, my strength, I will sing praises.
For God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.
PSALMS: 89
1 I will sing of the loving kindness of the LORD forever.
With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
2 I indeed declare, "Love stands firm forever.
You established the heavens.
Your faithfulness is in them."
3 "I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David, my servant,
4 'I will establish your seed forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.'"

5 The heavens will praise your wonders, LORD;
Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
6 For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD?
Who among the sons of the heavenly beings is like the LORD,
7 A very awesome God in the council of the holy ones,
To be feared above all those who are around him?
8 LORD, God Tzva'ot, who is a mighty one, like you?
The LORD, your faithfulness is around you.
9 You rule the pride of the sea.
When its waves rise up, you calm them.
10 You have broken Rachav in pieces, like one of the slain.
You have scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
11 The heavens are yours, the eretz also is yours;
The world and its fullness.
You have founded them.
12 The north and the south, you have created them.
Tavor and Hermon rejoice in your name.
13 You have a mighty arm.
Your hand is strong, and your right hand is exalted.
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.
Loving kindness and truth go before your face.
15 Blessed are the people who learn to acclaim you.
They walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
16 In your name do they rejoice all day.
In your righteousness, they are exalted.
17 For you are the glory of their strength.
In your favor, our horn will be exalted.
18 For our shield belongs to the LORD;
Our king to the Holy One of Yisra'el.
19 Then you spoke in vision to your holy ones,
And said, "I have bestowed strength on the warrior.
I have exalted a young man from the people.
20 I have found David, my servant.
I have anointed him with my holy oil,
21 With whom my hand shall be established.
My arm will also strengthen him.
22 No enemy will tax him.
No wicked man will oppress him.
23 I will beat down his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 But my faithfulness and my loving kindness will be with him.
In my name, his horn will be exalted.
25 I will set his hand also on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to me, 'You are my Father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation!'
27 I will also appoint him my firstborn,
The highest of the kings of the eretz.
28 I will keep my loving kindness for him forevermore.
My covenant will stand firm with him.
29 I will also make his seed endure forever,
And his throne as the days of heaven.
30 If his children forsake my law,
And don't walk in my ordinances;
31 If they break my statutes,
And don't keep my mitzvot;
32 Then I will punish their sin with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.
33 But I will not completely take my loving kindness from him,
Nor allow my faithfulness to fail.
34 I will not break my covenant,
Nor alter what my lips have uttered.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness,
I will not lie to David.
36 His seed will endure forever,
His throne like the sun before me.
37 It will be established forever like the moon,
The faithful witness in the sky."

38 But you have rejected and spurned.
You have been angry with your anointed.
39 You have renounced the covenant of your servant.
You have defiled his crown in the dust.
40 You have broken down all his hedges.
You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
41 All who pass by the way rob him.
He has become a reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries.
You have made all of his enemies rejoice.
43 Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword,
And haven't supported him in battle.
44 You have ended his splendor,
And thrown his throne down to the ground.
45 You have shortened the days of his youth.
You have covered him with shame.

46How long, LORD?
Will you hide yourself forever?
Will your wrath burn like fire?
47 Remember how short my time is!
For what vanity have you created all the children of men!
48 What man is he who shall live and not see death,
Who shall deliver his soul from the power of She'ol?
Selah.
49 Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses,
Which you swore to David in your faithfulness?
50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants,
How I bear in my heart the taunts of all the mighty peoples,
51 With which your enemies have mocked, LORD,
With which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one.
52 Blessed be the LORD forevermore.

PSALMS: 119
1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
Who walk according to the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes,
Who seek him with their whole heart.
3 Yes, they do nothing wrong.
They walk in his ways.
4 You have commanded your precepts,
That we should fully obey them.
5 Oh that my ways were steadfast
To obey your statutes!
6 Then I wouldn't be put to shame,
When I consider all of your mitzvot.
7 I will give thanks to you with uprightness of heart,
When I learn your righteous judgments.
8 I will observe your statutes.
Don't utterly forsake me.
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.
10 With my whole heart, I have sought you.
Don't let me wander from your mitzvot.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart,
That I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, LORD.
Teach me your statutes.
13 With my lips, I have declared all the ordinances of your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts,
And consider your ways.
16 I will delight myself in your statutes.
I will not forget your word.
17 Do good to your servant.
I will live and I will obey your word.
18 Open my eyes,
That I may see wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a stranger on the eretz.
Don't hide your mitzvot from me.
20 My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.
21 You have rebuked the proud who are cursed,
Who wander from your mitzvot.
22 Take reproach and contempt away from me,
For I have kept your statutes.
23 Though princes sit and slander me,
Your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24 Indeed your statutes are my delight,
And my counselors.
25 My soul is laid low in the dust.
Revive me according to your word!
26 I declared my ways, and you answered me.
Teach me your statutes.
27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts!
Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.
28 My soul is weary with sorrow.
Strengthen me according to your word.
29 Keep me from the way of deceit.
Grant me your law graciously!
30 I have chosen the way of truth.
I have set my heart on your law.
31 I cling to your statutes, LORD.
Don't let me be put to shame.
32 I run in the path of your mitzvot,
For you have set my heart free.
33 Teach me, LORD, the way of your statutes.
I will keep them to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law.
Yes, I will obey it with my whole heart.
35 Direct me in the path of your mitzvot,
For I delight in them.
36 Turn my heart toward your statutes,
Not toward selfish gain.
37 Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things.
Revive me in your ways.
38 Fulfill your promise to your servant,
That you may be feared.
39 Take away my disgrace that I dread,
For your ordinances are good.
40 Behold, I long for your precepts!
Revive me in your righteousness.
41 Let your loving kindness also come to me, LORD,
Your yeshu`ah, according to your word.
42 So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me,
For I trust in your word.
43 Don't snatch the word of truth out of my mouth,
For I put my hope in your ordinances.
44 So I will obey your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 I will walk in liberty,
For I have sought your precepts.
46 I will also speak of your statutes before kings,
And will not be put to shame.
47 I will delight myself in your mitzvot,
Because I love them.
48 I reach out my hands for your mitzvot, which I love.
I will meditate on your statutes.
49 Remember your word to your servant,
Because you gave me hope.
50 This is my comfort in my affliction,
For your word has revived me.
51 The arrogant mock me excessively,
But I don't swerve from your law.
52 I remember your ordinances of old, LORD,
And have comforted myself.
53 Indignation has taken hold on me,
Because of the wicked who forsake your law.
54 Your statutes have been my songs,
In the house where I live.
55 I have remembered your name, LORD, in the night,
And I obey your law.
56 This is my way,
That I keep your precepts.
57 The LORD is my portion.
I promised to obey your words.
58 I sought your favor with my whole heart.
Be merciful to me according to your word.
59 I considered my ways,
And turned my steps to your statutes.
60 I will hurry, and not delay,
To obey your mitzvot.
61 The ropes of the wicked bind me,
But I won't forget your law.
62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks to you,
Because of your righteous ordinances.
63 I am a friend of all those who fear you,
Of those who observe your precepts.
64 The eretz is full of your loving kindness, LORD.
Teach me your statutes.
65 Do good to your servant,
According to your word, LORD.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
For I believe in your mitzvot.
67 Before I was afflicted, I went astray;
But now I observe your word.
68 You are good, and do good.
Teach me your statutes.
69 The proud have smeared a lie upon me.
With my whole heart,
I will keep your precepts.
70 Their heart is as callous as the fat,
But I delight in your law.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
That I may learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
73 Your hands have made me and formed me.
Give me understanding, that I may learn your mitzvot.
74 Those who fear you will see me and be glad,
Because I have put my hope in your word.
75 LORD, I know that your judgments are righteous,
That in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Please let your loving kindness be for my comfort,
According to your word to your servant.
77 Let your tender mercies come to me, that I may live;
For your law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be put to shame,
for they have overthrown me wrongfully.
I will meditate on your precepts.
79 Let those who fear you turn to me.
They will know your statutes.
80 Let my heart be blameless toward your decrees,
That I may not be put to shame.
81 My soul faints for your salvation.
I hope in your word.
82 My eyes fail for your word.
I say, "When will you comfort me?"
83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke.
I don't forget your statutes.
84 How many are the days of your servant?
When will you execute judgment on those who persecute me?
85 The proud have dug pits for me,
Contrary to your law.
86 All of your mitzvot are faithful.
They persecute me wrongfully.
Help me!
87 They had almost wiped me from the eretz,
But I didn't forsake your precepts.
88 Preserve my life according to your loving kindness,
So I will obey the statutes of your mouth.
89 LORD, your word is settled in heaven forever.
90 Your faithfulness is to all generations.
You have established the eretz, and it remains.
91 Your laws remain to this day,
For all things serve you.
92 Unless your law had been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.
93 I will never forget your precepts,
For with them, you have revived me.
94 I am yours. Save me,
For I have sought your precepts.
95 The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me.
I will consider your statutes.
96 I have seen a limit to all perfection,
But your commands are boundless.
97 How love I your law!
It is my meditation all day.
98 Your mitzvot make me wiser than my enemies,
For your mitzvot are always with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged,
Because I have kept your precepts.
101 I have kept my feet from every evil way,
That I might observe your word.
102 I have not turned aside from your ordinances,
For you have taught me.
103 How sweet are your promises to my taste,
More than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts,
I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet,
And a light for my path.
106 I have sworn, and have confirmed it,
That I will obey your righteous ordinances.
107 I am afflicted very much.
Revive me, LORD, according to your word.
108 Accept, I beg you, the willing offerings of my mouth.
LORD, teach me your ordinances.
109 My soul is continually in my hand,
Yet I won't forget your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me,
Yet I haven't gone astray from your precepts.
111 I have taken your testimonies as a heritage forever,
For they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have set my heart to perform your statutes forever,
Even to the end.
113 I hate double-minded men,
But I love your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield.
I hope in your word.

That I may keep the mitzvot of my God.

And will have respect for your statutes continually.
118 You reject all those who stray from your statutes,
For their deceit is in vain.
119 You put away all the wicked of the eretz like dross.
Therefore I love your testimonies.
120 My flesh trembles for fear of you.
I am afraid of your judgments.
121 I have done what is just and righteous.
Don't leave me to my oppressors.
122 Ensure your servant's well-being.
Don't let the proud oppress me.
123 My eyes fail watching for your yeshu`ah,
For your righteous word.
124 Deal with your servant according to your loving kindness.
Teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant.
Give me understanding,
That I may know your testimonies.
126 It is time to act, LORD,
For they break your law.
127 Therefore I love your mitzvot more than gold,
Yes, more than pure gold.
128 Therefore I consider all of your precepts to be right.
I hate every false way.
129 Your testimonies are wonderful,
Therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The entrance of your words gives light.
It gives understanding to the simple.
131 I opened my mouth wide and panted,
For I longed for your mitzvot.
132 Turn to me, and have mercy on me,
As you always do to those who love your name.
133 Establish my footsteps in your word.
Don't let any iniquity have dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from the oppression of man,
So I will observe your precepts.
135 Make your face to shine on your servant.
Teach me your statutes.
136 Streams of tears run down my eyes,
Because they don't observe your law.
137 You are righteous, LORD.
your judgments are upright.
138 You have commanded your statutes in righteousness.
They are fully trustworthy.
139 My zeal wears me out,
Because my enemies ignore your words.
140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested,
And your servant loves them.
141 I am small and despised.
I don't forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness.
Your law is truth.
143 Trouble and anguish have taken hold of me.
Your mitzvot are my delight.
144 Your testimonies are righteous forever.
Give me understanding, that I may live.
145 I have called with my whole heart.
Answer me, LORD!
I will keep your statutes.

161 Princes have persecuted me without a cause,
But my heart stands in awe of your words.
162 I rejoice at your word,
As one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and abhor falsehood.
I love your law.
164 Seven times a day, I praise you,
Because of your righteous ordinances.
165 Those who love your law have great shalom.
Nothing causes them to stumble.
166 I have hoped for your yeshu`ah, LORD.
I have done your mitzvot.
167 My soul has observed your testimonies.
I love them exceedingly.
168 I have obeyed your precepts and your testimonies,
For all my ways are before you.
169 Let my cry come before you, LORD.
Give me understanding according to your word.

Deliver me according to your word.

For you teach me your statutes.

For all your mitzvot are righteousness.

For I have chosen your precepts.

Your law is my delight.

176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep.
Seek your servant, for I don't forget your mitzvot.
PROVERBS: 29
1 He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck
Will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.
2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
But when the wicked rule, the people groan.
3 Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father;
But a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
4 The king by justice makes the land stable,
But he who takes bribes tears it down.
5 A man who flatters his neighbor,
Spreads a net for his feet.
6 An evil man is snared by his sin,
But the righteous can sing and be glad.
7 The righteous care about justice for the poor.
The wicked aren't concerned about knowledge.
8 Mockers stir up a city,
But wise men turn away anger.
9 If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man,
The fool rages or scoffs, and there is no shalom.
10 The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity;
And they seek the life of the upright.
11 A fool vents all of his anger,
But a wise man brings himself under control.
12 If a ruler listens to lies,
All of his officials are wicked.
13 The poor man and the oppressor have this in common:
The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.
14 The king who fairly judges the poor,
His throne shall be established forever.
15 The rod of correction gives wisdom,
But a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
16 When the wicked increase, sin increases;
But the righteous will see their downfall.
17 Correct your son, and he will give you shalom;
Yes, he will bring delight to your soul.
18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
But one who keeps the law is blessed.
19 A servant can't be corrected by words.
Though he understands, yet he will not respond.
20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
21 He who pampers his servant from youth
Will have him become a son in the end.
22 An angry man stirs up strife,
And a wrathful man abounds in sin.
23 A man's pride brings him low,
But one who is of a lowly spirit gains honor.
24 Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul.
He takes an oath, but dares not testify.
25 The fear of man proves to be a snare,
But whoever puts his trust in the LORD is kept safe.
26 Many seek the ruler's favor,
But a man's justice comes from the LORD.
27 A dishonest man detests the righteous,
And the upright in their ways detest the wicked.
OLD TESTAMENT: ESTHER 1:1 - 3:15
1:1 Now it happened in the days of Achashverosh (this is Achashverosh who reigned from Hoddu even to Kush, over one hundred twenty-seven provinces), 2 that in those days, when the king Achashverosh sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace, 3 in the third year of his reign, he made a feast to all his princes and his servants; the power of Paras and Madai, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him; 4 when he shown the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, even one hundred eighty days. 5 When these days were fulfilled, the king made a feast to all the people who were present in Shushan the palace, both great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace. 6 [There were hangings of] white [cloth], [of] green, and [of] blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the couches were of gold and silver, on a pavement of red, and white, and yellow, and black marble. 7 They gave them drink in vessels of gold (the vessels being diverse one from another), and royal wine in abundance, according to the bounty of the king. 8 The drinking was according to the law; none could compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure. 9 Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Achashverosh. 10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Bizeta, Harvona, Bigta, and Avagta, Zetar, and Karkas, the seven chamberlains who ministered in the presence of Achashverosh the king, 11 to bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the peoples and the princes her beauty; for she was beautiful to look on. 12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's mitzvah by the chamberlains: therefore was the king very angry, and his anger burned in him. 13 Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all who knew law and judgment; 14 and the next to him were Karshena, Shetar Shibah |Shiv`ah, Admata, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memukhan, the seven princes of Paras and Madai, who saw the king's face, and sat first in the kingdom), 15 What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not done the bidding of the king Achashverosh by the chamberlains? 16 Memukhan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the peoples who are in all the provinces of the king Achashverosh. 17 For this deed of the queen will come abroad to all women, to make their husbands contemptible in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Achashverosh commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she didn't come. 18 This day will the princesses of Paras and Madai who have heard of the deed of the queen say [the like] to all the king's princes. So [will there arise] much contempt and wrath. 19 If it please the king, let there go forth a royal mitzvah from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Paras and the Madai, that it not be altered, that Vashti come no more before king Achashverosh; and let the king give her royal estate to another who is better than she. 20 When the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his kingdom (for it is great), all the wives will give to their husbands honor, both to great and small. 21 The saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memukhan: 22 for he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and should speak according to the language of his people.
2:1 After these things, when the wrath of king Achashverosh was pacified, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her. 2 Then said the king's servants who ministered to him, Let there be beautiful young virgins sought for the king: 3 and let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, to the custody of Hegai the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them; 4 and let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. The thing pleased the king; and he did so. 5 There was a certain Yehudi in Shushan the palace, whose name was Mordekhai, the son of Ya'ir, the son of Shim`i, the son of Kish, a Binyamini, 6 who had been carried away from Yerushalayim with the captives who had been carried away with Yekhonyah king of Yehudah, whom Nevukhadnetztzar the king of Bavel had carried away. 7 He brought up Hadassah, who is, Ester, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordekhai took her for his own daughter. 8 So it happened, when the king's mitzvah and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Ester was taken into the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women. 9 The maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her things for her purification, with her portions, and the seven maidens who were meet to be given her out of the king's house: and he removed her and her maidens to the best place of the house of the women. 10 Ester had not made known her people nor her relatives; for Mordekhai had charged her that she should not make it known. 11 Mordekhai walked every day before the court of the women's house, to know how Ester did, and what would become of her. 12 Now when the turn of every maiden was come to go in to king Achashverosh, after it had been done to her as prescribed for the women twelve months (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, [to wit], six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odors and with the things for the purifying of the women), 13 then in this wise came the maiden to the king: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women to the king's house. 14 In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Sha`ashgaz, the king's chamberlain, who kept the concubines: she came in to the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and she were called by name. 15 Now when the turn of Ester, the daughter of Avichayil the uncle of Mordekhai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. Ester obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her. 16 So Ester was taken to king Achashverosh into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tevet, in the seventh year of his reign. 17 The king loved Ester above all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. 18 Then the king made a great feast to all his princes and his servants, even Ester's feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the bounty of the king. 19 When the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordekhai was sitting in the king's gate. 20 Ester had not yet made known her relatives nor her people; as Mordekhai had charged her: for Ester did the mitzvah of Mordekhai, like as when she was brought up with him. 21 In those days, while Mordekhai was sitting in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those who kept the threshold, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the king Achashverosh. 22 The thing became known to Mordekhai, who shown it to Ester the queen; and Ester told the king [of it] in Mordekhai's name. 23 When inquisition was made of the matter, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.
3:1 After these things did king Achashverosh promote Haman the son of Hammedata the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes who were with him. 2 All the king's servants, who were in the king's gate, bowed down, and did reverence to Haman; for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordekhai didn't bow down, nor did him reverence. 3 Then the king's servants, who were in the king's gate, said to Mordekhai, Why disobey you the king's mitzvah? 4 Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily to him, and he didn't listen to them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordekhai's matters would stand: for he had told those who he was a Yehudi. 5 When Haman saw that Mordekhai didn't bow down, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. 6 But he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordekhai alone; for they had made known to him the people of Mordekhai: therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Yehudim who were throughout the whole kingdom of Achashverosh, even the people of Mordekhai. 7 In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Achashverosh, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, [to] the twelfth [month], which is the month Adar. 8 Haman said to king Achashverosh, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are diverse from [those of] every people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to allow them. 9 If it please the king, let it be written that they be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who have the charge of the [king's] business, to bring it into the king's treasuries. 10 The king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedata the Agagite, the Yehudim' enemy. 11 The king said to Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you. 12 Then were the king's Sofrim called in the first month, on the thirteenth day of it; and there was written according to all that Haman commanded to the king's satraps, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to the writing of it, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Achashverosh was it written, and it was sealed with the king's ring. 13 Letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Yehudim, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. 14 A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day. 15 The posts went forth in haste by the king's mitzvah, and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace. The king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.

11:17 But in giving you this command, I don't praise you, that you come together not for the better but for the worse.
18 For first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it.
19 For there also must be factions among you, that those who are approved may be revealed among you.
20 When therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not possible to eat the Lord's supper.
21 For in your eating each one takes his own supper before others. One is hungry, and another is drunken.
22 What, don't you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise God's assembly, and put them to shame who don't have? What shall I tell you? Shall I praise you? In this I don't praise you.
23 For I received from the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Yeshua on the night in which he was betrayed took bread.
24 When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me."
25 In the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me."
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord's cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.
29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he doesn't discern the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep.
31 For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn't be judged.
32 But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait one for another.
34 But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, that your coming together may not be to judgment. The rest I will set in order whenever I come.

1 מי שנגער תכופות ויקשיח עורפו
יאבד פתאום, ללא תרופה.
2 בצדיקים ישגשג עם;

3 אוהב חכמה ישמח את אביו;
וחבר זונות יבזבז את עושרו.
4 מלך בצדק ייצב ארץ,
ולוקח שוחד הורס אותה.
5 איש מחמיא לרעך,
פורש רשת לרגליו.
6 איש רשע נלכד בחטאו,
והצדיק ישיר וישמח.
7 צדיק דואג למשפט לעניים,
רשעים אינם דואגים לדעת.
8 לעגים יסחטו עיר,
וחכמים ישבו כעס. 9 אם חכם ילך למשפט עם איש טיפש,
הטיפש יתעצבן או יתלוצץ, ואין שלום.
10 צמאי דם ישנאו איש ישרים;
וחי ישרים יבקשו.
11 טיפש יוציא את כל כעסו,
וחכם ישלוט.
12 אם שליט ישמע שקר,
כל עבדיו רשעים.
13 זה משותף לעני ולמדכא:
ה' נותן מראה לעיני שניהם.
14 מלך השופט עניים בצדק,
כסאו יהיה כונן לעד.
15 שבט מוסר נותן חוכמה,
וילד שננטש לעצמו יביא בושה לאמו.
16 כאשר ירבו רשעים, ירבו חטא;
והצדיקים יראו את מפלתם.
17 יסור בנך, והוא יתן לך שלום; כן, הוא יביא עונג לנפשך.

א':1 ויהי בימי אחשורוש (זה אחשורוש אשר מלך מחדו ועד כוש, על מאה עשרים ושבע מדינות), ב' בימים ההם, כאשר המלך אחשורוש יושב על כסא מלכותו אשר בשושן הבירה, ג' בשנה השלישית למלכותו, עשה משתה לכל שריו ולעבדיו; חיל פרס ומדי, האצילים ושרי המדינות, לפניו; ד' בהראה את עושר מלכותו ותפארת מלכותו ימים רבים, מאה שמונים יום. ה' וימלאו את הימים האלה, עשה המלך משתה לכל העם אשר נמצא בשושן הבירה, מגדול ועד קטן, שבעת ימים, בחצר גן הבירה של המלך. ו [וילונות] של בד לבן, ירוק ותכלת, מחוברים בחוטי שֶׁשֶׁת וטחב, על טבעות כסף ועמודי שיש. הספות היו זהב וכסף, על משטח שיש אדום, לבן, צהוב ושחור.7 והשקתם אותם בכלי זהב, הכלים שונים זה מזה, ויין מלכותי בשפע, כטוב המלך.8 השתייה הייתה כחוק, איש לא יכל לכפות, כי כן צוה המלך לכל שרי ביתו, לעשות כרצון איש.9 וגם ושתי המלכה עשתה משתה לנשים בבית המלוכה אשר למלך אחשורוש. י ביום השביעי, כאשר לב המלך טוב מיין, ציווה את מהומן, את ביזטה, את חרבונה, את בגטה ואת אבגתא, את זתר ואת כרקש, שבעת הסריסים אשר משרתים לפני אחשוורוש המלך. יא להביא את ושתי המלכה לפני המלך בכתר המלכות ולהראות לעמים ולנסיכים את יופיה כי יפה מראה היא. יב ותמאנה המלכה ושתי לבוא למצוות המלך על ידי הסריסים; ויחר המלך אפו מאוד, וחרון אפו בער בו. 13 ויאמר המלך אל החכמים יודעי הזמנים, כי כן היה מנהג המלך לכל יודעי חוק ומשפט. 14 והבאים אחריו היו כרשנה ושטאר שבע שבע ואדמתה ותרשיש מרסנה וממוכן שבעת שרי פרס ומדי אשר ראו את פני המלך וישבו ראשנים במלכות. 15 מה נעשה למלכה ושתי כחוק, כי לא עשתה את דבר המלך אחשוורוש ביד הסריסים? 16 ויען ממוכן לפני המלך והשרים, לא למלך בלבד עשתה ושתי המלכה עוולה, כי אם גם לכל השרים ולכל העמים אשר בכל מדינות המלך אחשוורוש. יז כי מעשה המלכה הזה יתגלה לכל הנשים, כדי לבזות את בעליהן בעיניהן, כאשר יאמר המלך אחשוורוש להביא את ושתי המלכה לפניו, והיא לא באה. יח היום הזה יאמרו נסיכות פרס ומדי, אשר שמעו את מעשה המלכה, לכל שרי המלך, וכך בוז וחרון אונים רבים. יט אם טוב בעיני המלך, תצא ממנו מצווה מלכותית, ותכתוב בחוקי פרס ומדי, לבלתי תשונה, שלא תבוא ושתי עוד לפני המלך אחשוורוש; והמלך יתן את מלכותה לאחר טוב ממנה. 20 כאשר יתפרסם גזירת המלך אשר ייתן בכל ממלכתו (כי גדולה היא), יתנו כל הנשים כבוד לבעליהן, מגדול ועד קטן. 21 וְהָדַבָּר טָב בְּעֵינֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וְעֵינֵי הַשָּׂרִים וַיַּעֲשֶׂה הַמֶּלֶךְ כְּדַבֵּר מֵמוּכָן כִּי שָׁלַח סְפָרִים לְכָל-מִדְּבָר הַמֶּלֶךְ לְכָל-מִדָּבָר כְּכַתְּבָתָהּ וְלַכָּם-עַם לְשִׁלְטוֹן אִישׁ בְּבֵיתוֹ וְדַבֵּר כְּלִשְׁפָּט עַמּוֹ׃
2:1 אחרי הדברים האלה, כששככה חרון המלך אחשוורוש, הוא זכר את ושתי ואת אשר עשתה ואת אשר נגזר עליה. 2 ויאמרו עבדי המלך אשר משרתים אותו, יבקשו למלך בתולות יפות. 3 ויפקיד המלך שוטרים בכל מדינות מלכותו, ויאספו את כל בתולות היפות אל שושן הבירה אל בית הנשים, אל משמר הגי סריס המלך שומר הנשים; ויינתנו להם את כללי הטהרה. 4 והנערה אשר תמצא חן בעיני המלך תהיה מלכה תחת ושתי. הדבר טוב בעיני המלך; ויעשה כן. ה היה איש יהודי בשושן הבירה ושמו מרדכי בן יאיר בן שמעי בן קיש בן בנימיני. ו אשר גלה מירושלים עם הגולים אשר גלה עם יכניה מלך יהודה אשר גלה נבוכדנצר מלך בבל. ז הוא העלה את הדסה היא אסתר בת דודו כי לא היה לה אב ואם והנערה יפה ויפה הייתה וכאשר מתו אביה ואמה, לקח אותה מרדכי לבת. ח ויהי כאשר נשמעה מצות המלך וגזרתו, וכאשר נאספו נערות רבות לשושן הבירה, אל הגי, ותלקח אסתר לבית המלך אל הגי שומר הנשים. ט והנערה מצאה חן בעיניו, ותמצא חן בעיניו; וַיָּהֵר לָתֵת לָהּ אֶת-מַנְחָתָהּ וְאֶת-שֶׁבַע הַנְּעָרוֹת הַרְשׁוֹנוֹת לִתְנַתָּהּ מִבִּית הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיְקָל אֹתָהּ וְאֶת-נְעָרוֹתָהּ אֶת-הַמָּלֶךְ. י' לֹא-הִגִּידָה אֶת-עַמָּה וְאֶת-מַלְכָּהּ כִּי-צָוָה עָלָהּ מרדכי, לֹא-תִגִּידָה. י' מרדכי הלך יום יום לפני חצר בית הנשים, לִדְעַת לֹא-הָיָה לֹא-עָשָׂה לָהּ. יב וַיַּבֵּא תּוֹר הַנְּעָרוֹת לָבֹא אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ אַחֲרֵי-הַנָּשִׁים שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר חָדָשִׁים (כִּי-כֵן מֻלָּמוּ יְמֵי טָהָרָתָן שִׁשָּׁה חָדָשִׁים בְּשֶׁמֶן מוֹר, וְשִׁשָּׁה חָדָשִׁים בְּרִיחוֹת וְבַטָּהָרוֹת הַנָּשִׁים). יג' וַיָּבֹא הַנְּעָרוֹת אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ כָּל-אֲשֶׁר חָפְצָה נָתַן לָהּ לָלֵךְ עִמָּהּ מִבִּית הַנָּשִׁים אֶל-בִּית הַמֶּלֶךְ. יד בערב הלכה, ולמחרת שבה לבית הנשים השני, אל שמירת שגז סריס המלך, שומר הפילגשים. לא באה עוד אל המלך, אלא אם כן חפץ בה המלך, וייקראו על שמה. טו וכאשר הגיע תורה של אסתר בת אביחיל דוד מרדכי, אשר לקח אותה לבת, לבוא אל המלך, לא דרשה דבר אלא את אשר צוה הגי סריס המלך, שומר הנשים. אסתר מצאה חן בעיני כל הרואים בה. טז ותלקח אסתר אל המלך אחשורוש, ביתו המלכותי, בחודש העשירי, הוא חודש טבת, בשנה השביעית למלכותו. יז המלך אהב את אסתר מכל הנשים, ותמצא חן וחסד בעיניו מכל הבתולות; וַיַּשְׁמַן כֶּתֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל רֹאשֶׁה וַיַּמְלַכֶּה תַּחַת וַשְׁתִּי. יח וַיַּעֲשׂוֹת הַמֶּלֶךְ מְשַׁעֲדָתוֹ גָדָל לְכָל-שָׂרָיו וּלְמַעֲבָדָיו אֶת-אֶת-הַמִּשְׂתָּה אֶת-הַמִּלָּכֶם וַיֵּתֶן מַרְדְכִי בַּשַּׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ. יט וַיִּקְסְפוּ הַבְּתּוֹלוֹת שְׁנַת וְאֶת-עַמָּה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּהּ מַרְדְכִי כִּי עָשָׂה אֶת-מִצְוַת מַרְדְכִי כְּאֶשֶׁר גָּדַלָּה עָצְמָהּ. 21 בַּיָּמִים הַהֵּה וַיַּחֲרוּ שְׁנֵי סְרִיסֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ בֶגְתָּן וּתֶרֶשׁ מֵאֲשֶׁרִים הַסִּפָּן וַיִּבְקוּ לִשְׁמֹחַ יָד בַּמֶּלֶךְ אֶחַשְׁוֵרוֹ. 22 וַיְדַע הַדָּבָר לְמַרְדְכִי וַיַּגִּיד אֹתוֹ לַאסְתֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ ותגד אסתר למלך בשם מרדכי. כג וַיַּעֲשֶׂה חָקֵר בַּדָּבָר וַיִּמְצָא כֵּן וַיִּתְלֹהוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם עַל־הָעֵץ וַיִּכְתָּב בְּסֵפֶר הַיּוֹמָתִים לִפְנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ
ג:א אחרי הדברים האלה, ויקדם המלך אחשוורוש את המן בן המדתא האגגי, ויקדם אותו, וישם את כסאו על כל השרים אשר עמו. ב כל עבדי המלך אשר בשער המלך השתחוו, וישחו להמן, כי כן צוה עליו המלך, ולא השתחווה לו. ג ויאמרו עבדי המלך אשר בשער המלך אל מרדכי, למה אתה מפר את מצות המלך? ד ויהי, כאשר דברו אליו יום יום, ולא שמע אלהם, ויגידו להמן, לראות אם דברי מרדכי יקומו, כי הגיד לאלה אשר הוא יהודי. ה וירא המן כי לא השתחווה מרדכי ולא השתחווה לו, וימלא המן חמת עצובים. ו ויחשב לבלתי מוכן לשים יד במרדכי לבדו, כי הודיעו לו את עם מרדכי. לכן ביקש המן להשמיד את כל היהודים אשר בכל ממלכת אחשוורוש, את עם מרדכי. ז בחודש הראשון, הוא חודש ניסן, בשנה השתים עשרה למלך אחשוורוש, הטילו פור, הוא גורל, לפני המן, מיום ליום, ומחודש לחודש, עד השנים עשר, הוא חודש אדר. ח ויאמר המן למלך אחשוורוש, יש עם אחד מפוזר ומפוזר בין העמים בכל מדינות ממלכתך, וחוקיו שונים מכל עם, וגם את חוקי המלך אינם שומרים; לכן לא תועלת למלך להתיר אותם. ט אם-על-המלך טוב, ייכתב להשמידם, ואשלם עשרת אלפים כּכרים כסף ביד-אנשי-העבודה, להביאה אל-אוצרות המלך. י ויקח המלך את-טבעתו מידו, ויתנה להמן בן-המדתה האגגי, אויב היהודים. יא ויאמר המלך אל-המן, הכסף נתן לך, וגם לעם, לעשות בו ככל אשר-יראה בעיניך. יב וייקראו סופרי המלך בחודש הראשון, בשלושה עשר, ויכתב ככל אשר-צוה המן, אל-שרי המלך, ואל-המשגיחים אשר על-כל-מדינה, ואל-שרי-כל-עם, אל-כל-מדינה, ככתבה, ואל-כל-עם, בלשונו; בשם-המלך אחשורוש, ייכתב, וייחתם בטבעת המלך. יג וַיִּשְׁלַחוּ מִדְרָכִים בְּצָרִים לְכָל-מִדְרָכִים הַמֶּלֶךְ לְהַשְׁחִיד, לְהַרְגוּ וְלְהַשְׁחִיד, אֶת-כָּל-יְהוּדִים, מִנַּעֲשָׂר עַל-עֶשְׂרֵה לָשְׁנַע עֶשְׂרֶה, הוּא יוּד אֶדֶר, וּלְבַזֵּל אֶת-בַּזָּלָם. יד וְעַתְפַּת הַכְּתָב, לְהוֹדִין לְכָל-הָעָם, לְהוֹדִין לְהַיּוֹם הַהוּא. טו וַיֵּצְאוּ הַצָּרִים בְּמִצְוַת הַמֶּלֶךְ, וַיִּתְדַּק הַצָּב בְּשׁוּשָׁן הַבִּירָת. וַיֵּשְׁבוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהָמָן לִשְׁתּוֹת, וְהָעִיר שׁוּשָׁן, תִּבְבֹל.

11:17 אך בציווי זה אני נותן לכם, איני משבח אתכם על כך שאתם מתאספים לא לטובה אלא לרעה.
18 כי ראשית כל, כשאתם מתאספים בקהל, אני שומע שיש ביניכם פילוגים, ואני מאמין בכך חלקית.
19 כי גם ביניכם צריכים להיות פילוגים, כדי שיגלו ביניכם אלה שנמצאו מוצלחים.
20 לכן, כשאתם מתאספים, אי אפשר לאכול את סעודת האדון.
21 כי באכילתכם כל אחד אוכל את סעודתו לפני אחרים. אחד רעב ואחר שיכור.
22 מה, אין לכם בתים לאכול ולשתות בהם? או שאתם בזים לקהלת אלוהים ומבישים את אלה שאין להם? מה אגיד לכם? האם אשבח אתכם? בזאת איני משבח אתכם.
23 כי קיבלתי מאת האדון את אשר גם מסרתי לכם, כי האדון ישוע לקח לחם בלילה בו נבגר.
24 לאחר שהודה, בצע אותו ואמר: "קחו, אכלו. זה גופי אשר נשבר בעדכם. עשו זאת לזכרי."
25 כך גם לקח את הכוס לאחר הסעודה ואמר: "הכוס הזו היא הברית החדשה בדמי. עשו זאת, בכל פעם שתשתו, לזכרי."
26 כי בכל פעם שתאכלו את הלחם הזה ושתו את הכוס הזו, אתם מכריזים על מות האדון עד שיבוא.
27 לכן, כל מי שאוכל את הלחם הזה או שותה את כוס האדון בצורה לא ראויה, יהיה אשם בגוף ובדם האדון.
28 אך אדם יבחן את עצמו, וכך יאכל מהלחם וישתה מהכוס. 29 כי מי שאוכל ושותה באופן שאינו ראוי, אוכל ושותה משפט לעצמו, אם אינו מבחין בגוף האדון.
30 מסיבה זו רבים ביניכם חלשים וחולים, ולא מעטים ישנים.
31 כי אם היינו מבחינים בעצמנו, לא היינו נשפטים.
32 אך כאשר אנו נשפטים, אנו נענשים על ידי האדון, למען לא נידון עם העולם.
33 לכן, אחי, כשאתם מתאספים לאכול, חכו זה לזה.
