PSALMS: 17
1 Hear, LORD, my righteous plea;
Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from your presence;
Let your eyes look on equity.
3 You have proved my heart;
you have visited me in the night;
You have tried me, and found nothing;
I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.
4 As for the works of men,
by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths,
My feet have not slipped.
6 I have called on you, for you will answer me, God:
Turn your ear to me.
Hear my speech.
7 Show your marvelous loving kindness,
You who save those who take refuge by
your right hand from their enemies.
8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of your wings,
9 From the wicked who oppress me,
My deadly enemies, who compass me about.
10 They close up their callous hearts.
With their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now surrounded us in our steps.
They set their eyes to cast us down to the eretz.
12 He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,
As it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, LORD, Confront him, cast him down.
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword;
14 From men by your hand, LORD,
From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,
Whose belly you fill with your treasure:
They are satisfied with children,
Leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15 As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.
PSALMS: 47
1 Oh clap your hands, all you nations.
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
2 For the LORD Elyon is awesome.
He is a great King over all the eretz.
3 He subdues nations under us,
And peoples under our feet.
4 He chooses our inheritance for us,
The glory of Ya`akov whom he loved.
Selah.
5 God has gone up with a shout,
The LORD with the sound of a shofar.
6 Sing praise to God, sing praises.
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the eretz.
Sing praises with understanding.
8 God reigns over the nations.
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples are gathered together,
The people of the God of Avraham.
For the shields of the eretz belong to God.
He is greatly exalted!
PSALMS: 77
1 My cry goes to God! Indeed,
I cry to God for help,
And for him to listen to me.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord.
My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn't get tired.
My soul refused to be comforted.
3 I remember God, and I groan.
I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed.
Selah.
4 You hold my eyelids open.
I am so troubled that I can't speak.
5 I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
6 I remember my song in the night.
I consider in my own heart;
My spirit diligently inquires:
7 "Will the Lord reject us forever?
Will he be favorable no more?
8 Has his loving kindness vanished forever?
Does his promise fail for generations?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?"
Selah.
10Then I thought,
"I will appeal to this:
The years of the right hand of Ha`Elyon."
11 I will remember the LORD's deeds;
For I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will also meditate on all your work,
And consider your doings.
13 Your way, God, is in the sanctuary.
What god is great like God?
14 You are the God who does wonders.
You have made your strength known among the peoples.
15 You have redeemed your people with your arm,
The sons of Ya`akov and Yosef. Selah.
16 The waters saw you, God.
The waters saw you, and they writhed.
The depths also convulsed.
17 The clouds poured out water.
The skies resounded with thunder.
Your arrows also flashed around.
18 The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind.
The lightnings lit up the world.
The eretz trembled and shook.
19 Your way was through the sea;
Your paths through the great waters.
Your footsteps were not known.
20 You led your people like a flock,
By the hand of Moshe and Aharon.
PSALMS: 107
1 Give thanks to the LORD,
For he is good,
For his loving kindness endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed by the LORD say so,
Whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
3 Gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way.
They found no city to live in.
5 Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he delivered them out of their distresses,
7 He led them also by a straight way,
That they might go to a city to live in.
8 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul.
He fills the hungry soul with good.
10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Being bound in affliction and iron,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And condemned the counsel of Ha`Elyon.
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor.
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their bonds in sunder.
15 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he has broken the gates of brass,
And cut through bars of iron.
17 Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience,
And because of their iniquities.
18 Their soul abhors all kinds of food.
They draw near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He saves them out of their distresses.
20 He sends his word, and heals them,
And delivers them from their graves.
21 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare his works with singing.
23 Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business in great waters;
24 These see the LORD's works,
And his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commands, and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up its waves.
26 They mount up to the sky;
they go down again to the depths.
Their soul melts away because of trouble.
27 They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits' end.
28 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He brings them out of their distress.
29 He makes the storm a calm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then are they glad because it is calm,
So he brings them to their desired haven.
31 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise him in the seat of the Zakenim.
33 He turns rivers into a desert,
Water springs into a thirsty ground,
34 And a fruitful land into a salt waste,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a desert into a pool of water,
And a dry land into water springs.
36 There he makes the hungry to live,
That they may prepare a city to live in,
37 Sow fields, plant vineyards,
And reap the fruits of increase.
38 He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly.
He doesn't allow their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are diminished and bowed down
Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
40 He pours contempt on princes,
And causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
41 Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction,
And increases their families like a flock.
42 The upright will see it, and be glad.
All the wicked will shut their mouths.
43 Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things.
They will consider the loving
kindnesses of the LORD.
PSALMS: 137
1 By the rivers of Bavel, there we sat down.
Yes, we wept, when we remembered Tziyon.
2 On the willows in the midst of it,
We hung up our harps.
3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs.
Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy:
"Sing us one of the songs of Tziyon!"
4 How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Yerushalayim,
Let my right hand forget its skill.
6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
If I don't remember you;
If I don't prefer Yerushalayim above my chief joy.
7 Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom,
The day of Yerushalayim;
Who said, "Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!"
8 Daughter of Bavel, doomed to destruction,
He will be happy who rewards you,
As you have served us.
9 Happy shall he be,
Who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock.
PROVERBS: 17
1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
Than a house full of feasting with strife.
2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame,
And shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold,
But the LORD tests the hearts.
4 An evil-doer gives heed to wicked lips.
A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker.
He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men;
The glory of children are their parents.
7 Arrogant speech isn't fitting for a fool,
Much less do lying lips fit a prince.
8 A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
9 He who covers an offense promotes love;
But he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
10 A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred lashes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion;
Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man,
Rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Whoever rewards evil for good,
Evil shall not depart from his house.
14 The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam,
Therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom,
Seeing he has no understanding?
17 A friend loves at all times;
And a brother is born for adversity.
18 A man void of understanding strikes hands,
And becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
19 He who loves disobedience loves strife.
One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20 One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity,
And one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves.
The father of a fool has no joy.
22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine,
But a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret,
To pervert the ways of justice.
24 Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the eretz.
25 A foolish son brings grief to his father,
And bitterness to her who bore him.
26 Also to punish the righteous is not good,
Nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27 He who spares his words has knowledge.
He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise.
When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
OLD TESTAMENT: EZRA 3:1 - 4:23
3:1 When the seventh month was come, and the children of Yisra'el were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Yerushalayim. 2 Then stood up Yeshua the son of Yotzadak, and his brothers the Kohanim, and Zerubbavel the son of She'alti'el, and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Yisra'el, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moshe the man of God. 3 They set the altar on its base; for fear was on them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon to the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening. 4 They kept the feast of booths, as it is written, and [offered] the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required; 5 and afterward the continual burnt-offering, and [the offerings] of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and of everyone who willingly offered a freewill-offering to the LORD. 6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings to the LORD: but the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. 7 They gave money also to the masons, and to the carpenters; and food, and drink, and oil, to them of Tzidon, and to them of Tzor, to bring cedar trees from Levanon to the sea, to Yafo, according to the grant that they had of Koresh king of Paras. 8 Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Yerushalayim, in the second month, began Zerubbavel the son of She'alti'el, and Yeshua the son of Yotzadak, and the rest of their brothers the Kohanim and the Levites, and all those who were come out of the captivity to Yerushalayim, and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of the LORD. 9 Then stood Yeshua with his sons and his brothers, Kadmi'el and his sons, the sons of Yehudah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites. 10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the Kohanim in their clothing with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaf with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the order of David king of Yisra'el. 11 They sang one to another in praising and giving thanks to the LORD, [saying], For he is good, for his lovingkindness endures forever toward Yisra'el. All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 12 But many of the Kohanim and Levites and heads of fathers' [houses], the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: 13 so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people; for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.
4:1 Now when the adversaries of Yehudah and Binyamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple to the LORD, the God of Yisra'el; 2 then they drew near to Zerubbavel, and to the heads of fathers' [houses], and said to them, Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esar-Haddon king of Ashshur, who brought us up here. 3 But Zerubbavel, and Yeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' [houses] of Yisra'el, said to them, You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, as king Koresh the king of Paras has commanded us. 4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Yehudah, and troubled them in building, 5 and hired counselors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Koresh king of Paras, even until the reign of Daryavesh king of Paras. 6 In the reign of Achashverosh, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Yehudah and Yerushalayim. 7 In the days of Artachshasta wrote Bishlam, Mitredat, Tav'el, and the rest of his companions, to Artachshasta king of Paras; and the writing of the letter was written in the Arammian [character], and set forth in the Arammian [language]. 8 Rechum the chancellor and Shimshai the Sofer wrote a letter against Yerushalayim to Artachshasta the king in this sort: 9 then [wrote] Rechum the chancellor, and Shimshai the Sofer, and the rest of their companions, the Dinites, and the Afarsatkhi, the Tarpelites, the Afarsi, the Arkevi, the Bavlites, the Shushankhites, the Dehites, the Elamites, 10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar brought over, and set in the city of Shomron, and in the rest [of the country] beyond the River, and so forth. 11 This is the copy of the letter that they sent to Artachshasta the king: Your servants the men beyond the River, and so forth. 12 Be it known to the king, that the Yehudim who came up from you are come to us to Yerushalayim; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations. 13 Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings. 14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not appropriate for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and informed the king; 15 that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: so shall you find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste. 16 We inform the king that, if this city be built, and the walls finished, by this means you shall have no portion beyond the River. 17 [Then] sent the king an answer to Rechum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the Sofer, and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Shomron, and in the rest [of the country] beyond the River: Shalom, and so forth. 18 The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me. 19 I decreed, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein. 20 There have been mighty kings also over Yerushalayim, who have ruled over all [the country] beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid to them. 21 Make you now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be built, until a decree shall be made by me. 22 Take heed that you not be slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings? 23 Then when the copy of king Artachshasta' letter was read before Rechum, and Shimshai the Sofer, and their companions, they went in haste to Yerushalayim to the Yehudim, and made them to cease by force and power.
NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 2:6 - 3:4
2:6 We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown; yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds to our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this world has known. For had they known it, they wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 But as it is written, "Things which eye didn't see, and ear didn't hear, Which didn't enter into the heart of man, Whatever things God prepared for those who love him." 10 But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God's Spirit. 12 But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Ruach HaKodesh teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things. 14 Now the natural man doesn't receive the things of the God's Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can't know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?" But we have Messiah's mind.
3:1 Brothers, I couldn't speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly, as to babies in Messiah. 2 I fed you with milk, not with meat; for you weren't yet ready. Indeed, not even now are you ready, 3 for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, aren't you fleshly, and don't you walk in the ways of men? 4 For when one says, "I follow Sha'ul," and another, "I follow Apollos," aren't you fleshly?

2 יצא משפטי מלפניך; יעימו עיניך אל הישר.
3 בחנת את לבי; פקדתני בלילה; ניסיתני ולא מצאת; החלטתי כי פי לא יפגע.
4 ומעשיהם של בני אדם,
בדבר שפתיך שמרתי מדרך חמסנים.
5 צעדי נאחזו באתרכיך,
רגלי לא נשמטו.
6 קראתיך כי תענני, אלוהים:
הטה אזנך אלי.
שמע דברי.
7 הראה חסדו הנפלא,
מושיע חוסיך ביד ימינך מאויביהם.
8 שמרני כחבת עינך;
הסתרני בצל כנפיך,
9 מרשעים עושקים אותי,
אויבי קטלני, הקיפים אותי.
10 יסגרו את לבם הקשה.
בפיהם ידברו בגאווה.
11 עתה הקיפו אותנו בצעדינו.
הטילו עיניהם להשליכנו ארץ.
12 הוא כאריה חמד טרפו,
כאריה צעיר אורב במסתרים.
13 קום יהוה, עמד בפניו, הפיל אותו. הציל את נפשי מרשעים בחרבך;
יד מאנשים בידך ה',
מאנשי עולם אשר חלקם בחיים האלה,
אשר בטנם מלא אוצרך:
שבעו בנים,
שאר רכושם הניח לתינוקות.
טו ואראה פניך בצדק;
אשבעה בהקיץ לראות דמותך.

הריעו לאלוהים בקול ניצחון!
ב כי נורא ה' עליון.
מלך גדול הוא על כל הארץ.
ג הוא כובש גויים תחתינו,

כבוד יעקב אשר אהב.

1 אל אלוהים צעקתי! אמנם,

וישמע לי.

אתלון ורוחי נפגעה.

4 אתה מחזיק את עפעפי פקוחות. אני נסער ולא אוכל לדבר.
5 חשבתי ימי קדם,
שנות קדם.
6 אזכור את שירתתי בלילה. אחשוב בלבי;
רוחי שואלת בשקידה:
7 "האם ידחה אותנו ה' לנצח?
האם לא יתן עוד חן?
8 האם נבלם לנצח חסדו?
האם תיפול הבטחתו לדורות?
9 השכח אלוהים לחן?
האם באף עצור רחמיו?"

"אפנה אל זה:
שנות ימין האל."
11 אזכור את מעשי ה';
כי אזכור נפלאותיך מקדם.
12 וגם אהרהר בכל מעשיך,
ואראה מעלליך.
13 דרכך, ה', במקדש.
מי אל גדול כאלוהים?
14 אתה ה', ה', עושה נפלאות.
הודעת בעמים את כוחך. טו פדית עמך בזרועך, בני יעקב ויוסף, סלה.
טז ראו אותך מים, אלוהים.
ראו אותך מים ויתפתלו.
גם תהומות רעדו.
יז עננים שפכו מים.
שמיים רעמו רעם.
גם חיציך הבזיק.
יח קול רעמך היה בסערה.
ברקים האירו תבל.
ארץ רעדה וזעזעה.
יט בים הייתה דרכך,
במים רבים נתיבותיך.
צעדיך לא נודעו.
20 כצאן הובלת את עמך,
ביד משה ואהרן.
תהילים: קז
1 הודו ליהוה כי טוב כי לעולם חסדו.
2 יאמרו גאולי ה' כֹּה,
אשר גאל מיד צר,
3 אספו מן הארצות,
ממזרח וממערב,
מצפון ומדרום.
4 נדדו במדבר בדרך מדבר,
לא מצאו עיר לשבת בה.
5 רעבים וצמאים,
נפשם יתעפה בהם.
6 ויצעקו אל ה' בצרתם,
והצילם ממצוקתם,
7 וינהגם בדרך ישרה,
למען ילכו אל עיר לשבת בה.
8 יהללו ליהוה על חסדו,
על נפלאותיו לבני אדם.
9 כי משביע נפש תאווה. ימלא נפש רעבה בטוב.
10 ישבים בחושך ובצל מות,
אסורים בצרה ובברזל,
11 כי מרדו בדברי אלוהים,
וגינו את עצת עליון.
12 לכן השפיל את לבם בעמל.
נפלו, ואין עוזר.
13 וצעקו אל ה' בצרתם,
והושיעם ממצוקתם.
14 הוציאם מחושך ומצל מות,
ונתק את אסירותיהם.
15 יהללו את ה' על חסדו,
על נפלאותיו לבני אדם!
16 כי שבר שערי נחשת,
ובריחי ברזל כרת.
17 כועסים נגעלים בגלל אי ציותם,
ובגלל עוונותיהם.
18 כל מאכל תיאב נפשם.
אל שערי מות יקרבו.
19 אז יצעקו אל ה' בצרתם,
ממצוקתם יושיע אותם.
20 ישלח דברו וירפא אותם,
ומקברותיהם יציל אותם.
21 יהללו את ה' על חסדו,
על נפלאותיו לבני אדם!
22 יזבחו זבחי תודה,
והגידו מעשיו בשירה.
23 יורדים ים באניות,
עושים עסקים במים רבים;
24 אלה רואים מעשי ה',
ונפלאותיו במהומה.
25 כי הוא מצווה, ומרים רוח סערה,
אשר מרים גליה.
26 הם עולים השמימה;
ישובים לרדת למהומה. נפשם נמסה מצרה.
27 יתנדנדו הלוך ושוב, ויתנדנדו כשיכור,
ויתאבדו.
28 אז יצעקו אל ה' בצרתם,
ממצוקתם יוציאם.
29 ישים סערה לשקט,

הברית הישנה: עזרא ג':1 - ד':23
ג':1 ויבוא החודש השביעי ובני ישראל בערים, ויאסף העם כאיש אחד לירושלים. ב' ויקם ישוע בן יוצדק ואחיו הכהנים וזרובבל בן שאלתיאל ואחיו, ויבנו את מזבח אלוהי ישראל להקריב עליו עלות ככתוב בתורת משה איש האלוהים. ג' ויעמידו את המזבח על כנו כי היה עליהם מורא מפני עמי הארצות, ויקריב עליו עלות לה' בוקר וערב. ד' ויעשו את חג הסוכות ככתוב, ויעלו את עלות התמיד במספר כמשפט כחוק יום יום. ה ואחר כך את העלה התמידית ואת ראשי החדשים ואת כל מועדי ה' המקודשים ואת כל אשר הקדיש נדבה לה'. ו מיום ראשון לחודש השביעי החלו להקריב עלות לה', ועדיין לא הונח יסוד בית ה'. ז וגם נתנו כסף לחרשים ולנגרים, ואוכל ומשקה ושמן לאנשי צידון ולאנשי צור להביא עצי ארז מלנון אל הים יפו, כפי המתנה אשר להם מאת כורש מלך פרס. ח ובשנה השנייה לבואם לבית האלהים בירושלים, בחודש השני, החל זרובבל בן שאלתיאל וישוע בן יוצדק ושאר אחיהם הכוהנים והלוים וכל הבאים מגלות ירושלים, ויענו את הלוים מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה, להשגיח על מלאכת בית ה'. ט ויעמד ישוע ובניו ואחיו קדמיאל ובניו בני יהודה יחד, להשגיח על המלאכים בבית ה', בני חנדד ובניהם ואחיהם הלוים. י וייסדו הבונים את יסוד בית ה', והעמידו את הכוהנים בלבושי חצוצרות ואת הלוים בני אסף במצלתיים, להלל את ה', כדבר דוד מלך ישראל. יא וַיְשִׁירוּ אִישׁ לְרֵעָם בְּהִלָּה וּבְהוֹדָה לַיהוָה לֵאמֹר: כִּי טוֹב כִּי עוֹלָם חַסְדוֹ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל. כָּל-הָעָם הָרָעוּ תְּרוּעָה גְדוֹלָה בְּהִבְּלוּ אֶת-ה' עַל-יְהוָה, כִּי-נוֹסַד בֵּית ה'. 12 וְרָבִים מִן-הַכֹּהֲנִים וּמִן-רֹאשִׁי הַאֲשֶׁר רָאוּ אֶת-הַבַּיִת הָרִאשׁוֹן בְּנוֹסַד הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה לִעֵיניהם, בְּכוּ קוֹל גָדוֹל, ורבים רָעוּ שִׂמְחָה גְדוֹלָה. 13 וְלֹא-יְכֹל הָעָם לְהַבְדִּיר בְּקוֹל שִׂמְחָה מְקוֹל בְּכִי הָעָם, כִּי-רָעוּ הָעָם תְּרוּעָה גְדוֹלָה, וְהַקוֹל נִשְׁמַע מִרְחוֹק.
ד:א וכאשר שמעו צרי יהודה ובנימין כי בני הגלות בונים בית לה' אלהי ישראל, ב ויגשו אל זרובבל ואל ראשי האבות ויאמרו אלהם נבנה עמכם כי את אלהיכם כמוכם מבקשים אנו ולו אנו זבחים מימי עשרהדון מלך אשור אשר העלנו הנה. ג ויאמרו אלהם זרובבל וישוע ושאר ראשי האבות לישראל אין לכם קשר עמנו בבניית בית לאלהינו כי אנחנו יחד נבנה לה' אלהי ישראל כאשר צוה אותנו מלך כורש מלך פרש. ד וייחלש עם הארץ את ידי עם יהודה, ויטרידו אותם בבנייה, ה וישכרו עליהם יועצים, לסכל את דעתם, כל ימי כורש מלך פרס, ועד מלכות דריבוש מלך פרס. ו בימי אחשורוש, בראשית מלכותו, כתבו טענה על יושבי יהודה וירושלים. ז בימי ארתחששתא כתבו את בשלם, את מתרדת, את תבל ואת שאר רעיו, אל ארתחששתא מלך פרס; וכתב המכתב נכתב בארמית, וכתוב בארמית. ח רחום המזכיר ושמישי הסופר כתבו מכתב על ירושלים אל ארתחששתא המלך כך: ט אז כתב רחום המזכיר ושמישי הסופר ושאר חבריהם הדיני והאפרסאתי והתרפלי והאפרסי והארכבי והבבלים והשושנקי והדחי והעלימי. י ושאר הגויים אשר הביא אסנפר הגדול והנכבד וישב בעיר שומרון ובשאר עבר הנהר וכן הלאה. יא זה העתק המכתב אשר שלחו אל ארתחששתא המלך: עבדיך אנשי עבר הנהר וכן הלאה. יב וידע למלך כי היהודים שעלו ממך באו אלינו ירושלים; הם בונים את העיר המרדית והרעה, וסיימו את החומות, ותקנו את היסודות. 13 יהי ידוע עתה למלך כי אם תיבנה העיר הזאת, והחומות יושלמו, לא ישלמו מס, מס ואגרה, ואחרית הדבר יזיק למלכים. 14 עתה, משום שאנו אוכלים את מלח הבית, ואין זה ראוי לנו לראות את חרפת המלך, על כן שלחנו והודענו למלך; 15 למען יחפש בספר זכרונות אבותיך, ותמצא בספר זכרונות, ותדע כי העיר הזאת עיר מרדית היא, ומזיקה למלכים ולמדינות, וכי הם עוררו בה מהומה מימים עברו; בגלל זה חרבה העיר הזאת. 16 אנו מודיעים למלך כי אם תיבנה העיר הזאת, והחומות יושלמו, בכך לא יהיה לך חלק מעבר לנהר. יז שלח המלך תשובה לרחום המלך ולשמשי הסופר ולשאר רעיהם היושבים בשומרון ובשאר עבר הנהר שלום וכן הלאה. יח המכתב אשר שלחת אלינו נקרא לפניי. יט גזרתי וחיפשתי ונמצא כי העיר הזאת מימים עברו מרדה במלכים ומרד ומהדהדים נעשו בה. 20 מלכים גיבורים היו גם על ירושלים אשר שלטו בכל עבר הנהר ומס ואגרה שולם להם. 21 נא תן צו להפסיק את האנשים האלה ולא תיבנה העיר הזאת עד אשר יתן צו על ידי. 22 היזהר פן תתמהמה בזה למה יגבר הנזק לרעת המלכים? 23 וַיִּקְרָא עֲתַר מִסְפָּר הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶרְחַשְׁתָּא לִפְנֵי רְחוּם וּשְׁמַשִּׁי הַסוֹפֶר וּרְעָם וַיָּהֲרוּ יִרוּשָׁלַיִם אֶל־הַיְהוּדִים וַיַּחֲדֹמָם בַּחֲרָב וּבַמַּחֲרָב׃
הברית החדשה: קורינתים א' ב':6 - ג':4
