THEinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation - May 28 - Full Text

Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

MAY 28

PSALMS:   28, 58, 88, 118, 148

PROVERBS:  28

OLD TESTAMENT:  NEHEMIAH 12:27 - 13:31

NEW TESTAMENT:  1 CORINTHIANS 11:1 - 16

PSALMS:  28

 1 To you, LORD, I call.
My rock, don't be deaf to me;
Lest, if you are silent to me,
I would become like those who go down into the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you,
When I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
3 Don't draw me away with the wicked,
With the workers of iniquity who speak shalom with their neighbors,
But mischief is in their hearts.
4 Give them according to their work,
and according to the wickedness of their doings.
Give them according to the operation of their hands.
Bring back on them what they deserve.
5 Because they don't regard the works of the LORD,
Nor the operation of his hands,
He will break them down and not build them up.
6 Blessed be the LORD,
Because he has heard the voice of my petitions.
7  The LORD is my strength and my shield.
My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped.
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.
With my song I will thank him.
8 The LORD is their strength.
He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed.
9 Save your people, and bless your inheritance.
Be their shepherd also, and bear them up forever.

PSALMS:  58

1 Do you indeed speak righteousness, silent ones?
Do you judge blamelessly, you sons of men?
2 No, in your heart you plot injustice.
You measure out the violence of your hands in the eretz.
3 The wicked go astray from the womb.
They are wayward as soon as they are born, speaking lies.
4 Their poison is like the poison of a snake;
Like a deaf cobra that stops its ear,
5 Which doesn't listen to the voice of charmers,
No matter how skillful the charmer may be.
6Break their teeth, God, in their mouth.
Break out the great teeth of the young lions, LORD.
7 Let them vanish as water that flows away.
When they draw the bow, let their arrows be made blunt.
8 Let them be as a snail which melts and passes away,
Like the stillborn child, who has not seen the sun.
9 Before your pots can feel the thorns,
He will sweep away, the green and the burning alike.
10 The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance.
He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked;
11 So that men shall say, "Most assuredly there is a reward for the righteous.
Most assuredly there is a God who judges the eretz."

PSALMS:  88

1 LORD, the God of my salvation,
I have cried day and night before you.
2 Let my prayer enter into your presence.
Turn your ear to my cry.
3 For my soul is full of troubles.
My life draws near to She'ol.
4 I am counted among those who go down into the pit.
I am like a man who has no help,
5 Set apart among the dead,
Like the slain who lie in the grave,
Whom you remember no more.
They are cut off from your hand.
6 You have laid me in the lowest pit,
In the darkest depths.
7  Your wrath lies heavily on me.
You have afflicted me with all your waves.
Selah.
8 You have taken my friends from me.
You have made me an abomination to them.
I am confined, and I can't escape.
9 My eyes are dim from grief.
I have called on you daily, LORD.
I have spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you show wonders to the dead?
Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.
11 Is your loving kindness declared in the grave?
Or your faithfulness in Destruction?
12 Are your wonders made known in the dark?
Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
13 But to you, LORD, I have cried.
In the morning, my prayer comes before you.
14 LORD, why do you reject my soul?
Why do you hide your face from me?
15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up.
While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.
16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me.
Your terrors have cut me off.
17 They came around me like water all day long.
They completely engulfed me.
18 You have put lover and friend far from me,
And my friends into darkness.

PSALMS:  148

1 Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens!
Praise him in the heights!
2 Praise him, all his angels!
Praise him, all his host!
3 Praise him, sun and moon!
Praise him, all you shining stars!
4 Praise him, you heavens of heavens,
You waters that are above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, ‘
For he commanded, and they were created.
6 He has also established them forever and ever.
He has made a decree which will not pass away.
7 Praise the LORD from the eretz,
You great sea creatures, and all depths!
8 Lightning and hail, snow and clouds;
Stormy wind, fulfilling his word;
9 Mountains and all hills;
Fruit trees and all cedars;
10 Wild animals and all cattle;
Small creatures and flying birds;
11 Kings of the eretz and all peoples;
Princes and all judges of the eretz;
12 Both young men and maidens;
Old men and children:
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD,
For his name alone is exalted.
His glory is above the eretz and the heavens.
14 He has lifted up the horn of his people,
The praise of all his holy ones;
Even of the children of Yisra'el, a people near to him.
Praise the LORD!

PROVERBS:  28

1 The wicked flee when no one pursues;
But the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2 In rebellion, a land has many rulers,
But order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.
3 A needy man who oppresses the poor
Is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.
4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked;
But those who keep the law contend with them.
5 Evil men don't understand justice;
But those who seek the LORD understand it fully.
6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity,
Than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.
7 Whoever keeps the law is a wise son;
But he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.
8 He who increases his wealth by excessive interest
Gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.
9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law,
Even his prayer is an abomination.
10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way,
He will fall into his own trap;
But the blameless will inherit good.
11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes;
But the poor who has understanding sees through him.
12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory;
But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.
13 He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper,
But whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14 Blessed is the man who always fears;
But one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.
15 As a roaring lion or a charging bear,
So is a wicked ruler over helpless people.
16 The ruler who lacks judgment is a great tyrant.
One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.
17 A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death;
No one will support him.
18 Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe;
But one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.
19 One who works his land will have an abundance of food;
But one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.
20 A faithful man is rich with blessings;
But one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
21 To show partiality is not good;
Yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.
22 A stingy man hurries after riches,
And doesn't know that poverty waits for him.
23 One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor
Than one who flatters with the tongue.
24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says,
"It's not wrong."
He is a partner with a destroyer.
25 One who is greedy stirs up strife;
But one who trusts in the LORD will prosper.
26 One who trusts in himself is a fool;
But one who walks in wisdom, he is kept safe.
27 One who gives to the poor has no lack;
But one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;
But when they perish, the righteous thrive.

OLD TESTAMENT:  NEHEMIAH 12:27 - 13:31

12:27 At the dedication of the wall of Yerushalayim they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Yerushalayim, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with giving thanks, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. 28 The sons of the singers gathered themselves together, both out of the plain round about Yerushalayim, and from the villages of the Netofati; 29 also from Beit-Gilgal, and out of the fields of Geva and `Azmavet: for the singers had built them villages round about Yerushalayim. 30 The Kohanim and the Levites purified themselves; and they purified the people, and the gates, and the wall. 31 Then I brought up the princes of Yehudah on the wall, and appointed two great companies who gave thanks and went in procession; [whereof one went] on the right hand on the wall toward the dung gate: 32 and after them went Hosha`yah, and half of the princes of Yehudah, 33 and `Azaryah, Ezra, and Meshullam, 34 Yehudah, and Binyamin, and Shemayah, and Yirmeyahu, 35 and certain of the Kohanim' sons with trumpets: Zekharyah the son of Yonatan, the son of Shemayah, the son of Mattanyah, the son of Mikhayahu, the son of Zakkur, the son of Asaf; 36 and his brothers, Shemayah, and `Azar'el, Milalai, Gilalai, Ma`ai, Netan'el, and Yehudah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God; and Ezra the Sofer was before them. 37 By the spring gate, and straight before them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, even to the water gate eastward. 38 The other company of those who gave thanks went to meet them, and I after them, with the half of the people, on the wall, above the tower of the furnaces, even to the broad wall, 39 and above the gate of Efrayim, and by the old gate, and by the fish gate, and the tower of Hanan'el, and the tower of Hammeah, even to the sheep gate: and they stood still in the gate of the guard. 40 So stood the two companies of those who gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me; 41 and the Kohanim, Elyakim, Ma`aseyah, Minyamin, Mikhayahu, Elyo`enai, Zekharyah, and Hananyah, with trumpets; 42 and Ma`aseyah, and Shemayah, and El`azar, and `Uzzi, and Yehochanan, and Malkiyah, and `Elam, and Etzer. The singers sang loud, with Yizrachyah their overseer. 43 They offered great sacrifices that day, and rejoiced; for God had made them rejoice with great joy; and the women also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Yerushalayim was heard even afar off. 44 On that day were men appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the heave-offerings, for the first fruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them, according to the fields of the cities, the portions appointed by the law for the Kohanim and Levites: for Yehudah rejoiced for the Kohanim and for the Levites who waited. 45 They kept the charge of their God, and the charge of the purification, and [so did] the singers and the porters, according to the mitzvah of David, and of Shlomo his son. 46 For in the days of David and Asaf of old there was a chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. 47 All Yisra'el in the days of Zerubbavel, and in the days of Nechemyah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, as every day required: and they set apart [that which was] for the Levites; and the Levites set apart [that which was] for the sons of Aharon.

13:1 On that day they read in the book of Moshe in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that an `Ammonite and a Mo'avite should not enter into the assembly of God forever, 2 because they didn't meet the children of Yisra'el with bread and with water, but hired Bil`am against them, to curse them: however our God turned the curse into a blessing. 3 It came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Yisra'el all the mixed multitude. 4 Now before this, Elyashiv the Kohen, who was appointed over the chambers of the house of our God, being allied to Toviyah, 5 had prepared for him a great chamber, where before they laid the meal-offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which were given by mitzvah to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the heave-offerings for the Kohanim. 6 But in all this [time] I was not at Yerushalayim; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artachshasta king of Bavel I went to the king: and after certain days asked I leave of the king, 7 and I came to Yerushalayim, and understood the evil that Elyashiv had done for Toviyah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God. 8 It grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Toviyah out of the chamber. 9 Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and there brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meal-offerings and the frankincense. 10 I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them; so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, were fled everyone to his field. 11 Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? I gathered them together, and set them in their place. 12 Then brought all Yehudah the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries. 13 I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemyahu the Kohen, and Tzadok the Sofer, and of the Levites, Pedayahu: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zakkur, the son of Mattanyah; for they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute to their brothers. 14 Remember me, my God, concerning this, and don't wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the observances of it. 15 In those days saw I in Yehudah some men treading wine-presses on the Shabbat, and bringing in sheaves, and lading donkeys [therewith]; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbat: and I testified [against them] in the day in which they sold victuals. 16 There lived men of Tzor also therein, who brought in fish, and all manner of wares, and sold on the Shabbat to the children of Yehudah, and in Yerushalayim. 17  Then I contended with the nobles of Yehudah, and said to them, What evil thing is this that you do, and profane the day of Shabbat? 18 Didn't your fathers do thus, and did not our God bring all this evil on us, and on this city? yet you bring more wrath on Yisra'el by profaning the Shabbat. 19 It came to pass that, when the gates of Yerushalayim began to be dark before the Shabbat, I commanded that the doors should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened until after the Shabbat: and some of my servants set I over the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the day of Shabbat. 20 So the merchants and sellers of all kind of wares lodged outside of Yerushalayim once or twice. 21 Then I testified against them, and said to them, Why lodge you about the wall? if you do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the Shabbat. 22 I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the day of Shabbat. Remember to me, my God, this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your lovingkindness. 23 In those days also saw I the Yehudim who had married women of Ashdod, of `Ammon, [and] of Mo'av: 24 and their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Yehudim' language, but according to the language of each people. 25 I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, [saying], You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves. 26 Did not Shlomo king of Yisra'el sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Yisra'el: nevertheless even him did foreign women cause to sin. 27  Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women? 28 One of the sons of Yoiada, the son of Elyashiv the Kohen Gadol, was son-in-law to Sanvallat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me. 29 Remember them, my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites. 30 Thus cleansed I them from all foreigners, and appointed charges for the Kohanim and for the Levites, everyone in his work; 31 and for the wood-offering, at times appointed, and for the first fruits. Remember me, my God, for good.

NEW TESTAMENT:  1 CORINTHIANS 11:1 - 16

11:1 Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Messiah.
2 Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.
3 But I would have you know that the head of every man is Messiah, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Messiah is God.
4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.
5 But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved.
6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.
7  For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man.
8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man;
9 for neither was man created for the woman, but woman for the man.
10 For this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.
11 Nevertheless, neither is the woman independent of the man, nor the man independent of the woman, in the Lord.
12 For as the woman is from the man, so is the man also by the woman; but all things are from God.
13 Judge for yourselves. Is it appropriate that a woman pray to God unveiled?
14 Doesn't even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering.
16 But if any man seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither do God's assemblies.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

MAY 27

PSALMS:   27, 57, 87, 117, 147

PROVERBS:  27

OLD TESTAMENT:  NEHEMIAH 11:1 - 12:26

NEW TESTAMENT:  1 CORINTHIANS 10:14 - 33

Psalms 27

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation.
Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life.
Of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil-doers came at me to eat up my flesh,
Even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though a host should encamp against me,
My heart shall not fear.
Though war should rise against me,
Even then I will be confident.
4 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after,
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To see the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion.
In the covert of his tent will he hide me.
He will lift me up on a rock.
6 Now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies around me.
I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent.
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
7 Hear, LORD, when I cry with my voice.
Have mercy also on me, and answer me.
8 When you said, "Seek my face,"
My heart said to you,
"I will seek your face, LORD."
9 Don't hide your face from me.
Don't put your servant away in anger.
You have been my help.
Don't abandon me, neither forsake me,
God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the LORD will take me up.
11 Teach me your way, LORD.
Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.
12 Don't deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries,
For false witnesses have risen up against me,
Such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the LORD.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage.
Yes, wait for the LORD.

PSALMS:  57

1 Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me,
For my soul takes refuge in you.
Yes, in the shadow of your wings,
I will take refuge,
Until disaster has passed.
2 I cry out to El `Elyon,
To God who accomplishes my requests for me.
3 He will send from heaven, and save me,
He rebukes the one who is pursuing me.
Selah.
God will send out his loving kindness and his truth.
4 My soul is among lions.
I lie among those who are set on fire,
Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
And their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Be exalted, God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be above all the eretz!
6 They have prepared a net for my steps.
My soul is bowed down.
They dig a pit before me.
They fall into the midst of it themselves.
Selah.
7 My heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast.
I will sing, yes,
I will sing praises.
8 Wake up, my glory!
Wake up, psaltery and harp!
I will wake up the dawn.
9 I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the peoples.
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
10 For your great loving kindness reaches to the heavens,
And your truth to the skies.
11 Be exalted, God, above the heavens.
Let your glory be over all the eretz.

PSALMS:  87

1 His foundation is in the holy mountains.
2 The LORD loves the gates of Tziyon More than all the dwellings of Ya`akov.
3 Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God.
Selah.
4 I will record Rachav and Bavel among those who acknowledge me.
Behold, Peleshet, Tzor, and also Kush:
"This one was born there."
5 Yes, of Tziyon it will be said,
"This one and that one was born in her;"
The Elyon himself will establish her.
6 The LORD will count, when he writes up the peoples,
"This one was born there."
Selah.
7 Those who sing as well as those who dance say, "
All my springs are in you."

PSALMS:  117

1 Praise the LORD, all you nations!
Extol him, all you peoples!
2 For his loving kindness is great toward us.
The LORD's faithfulness endures forever.
Praise the LORD!

PSALMS:  147

1 Praise the LORD,
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
For it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.
2 The LORD builds up Yerushalayim.
He gathers together the outcasts of Yisra'el.
3 He heals the broken in heart,
And binds up their wounds.
4 He counts the number of the stars.
He calls them all by their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power.
His understanding is infinite.
6 The LORD upholds the humble.
He brings the wicked down to the ground.
7  Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving.
Sing praises on the harp to our God,
8 Who covers the sky with clouds,
Who prepares rain for the eretz,
Who makes grass grow on the mountains.
9 He provides food for the cattle,
And for the young ravens when they call.
10 He doesn't delight in the strength of the horse.
He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him,
In those who hope in his loving kindness.
12 Praise the LORD, Yerushalayim!
Praise your God, Tziyon!
13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates.
He has blessed your children within you.
14He makes shalom in your borders.
He fills you with the finest of the wheat.
15 He sends out his mitzvah on eretz.
His word runs very swiftly.
16 He gives snow like wool,
And scatters frost like ashes.
17  He hurls down his hail like pebbles.
Who can stand before his cold?
18 He sends out his word, and melts them.
He causes his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
19 He shows his word to Ya`akov;
His statutes and his ordinances to Yisra'el.
20 He has not done this for any nation;
They don't know his ordinances.
Praise the LORD!

PROVERBS:  27

1 Don't boast about tomorrow;
For you don't know what a day may bring forth.
2 Let another man praise you,
And not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.
3 A stone is heavy, And sand is a burden;
But a fool's provocation is heavier than both.
4 Wrath is cruel,
And anger is overwhelming;
But who is able to stand before jealousy?
5 Better is open rebuke Than hidden love.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
Although the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
7 A full soul loathes a honeycomb;
But to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.
8 As a bird that wanders from her nest,
So is a man who wanders from his home.
9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart;
So does earnest counsel from a man's friend.
10 Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend.
Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster:
Better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother.
11 Be wise, my son,
And bring joy to my heart,
Then I can answer my tormentor.
12 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge;
But the simple pass on, and suffer for it:
13 Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger;
Hold it for a wayward woman!
14 He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning,
It will be taken as a curse by him.
15 A continual dropping on a rainy day
And a contentious wife are alike:
16 Restraining her is like restraining the wind,
Or like grasping oil in his right hand.
17 Iron sharpens iron;
So a man sharpens his friend's countenance.
18 Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit.
He who looks after his master shall be honored.
19 As water reflects a face,
So a man's heart reflects the man.
20 She'ol and Avaddon are never satisfied;
And a man's eyes are never satisfied.
21 The crucible is for silver,
And the furnace for gold;
But man is refined by his praise.
22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain,
Yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.
23 Know well the state of your flocks,
And pay attention to your herds:
24 For riches are not forever,
Nor does even the crown endure to all generations.
25 The hay is removed, and the new growth appears,
The grasses of the hills are gathered in.
26 The lambs are for your clothing,
And the goats are the price of a field.
27  There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food,
For your family's food,
And for the nourishment of your servant girls.

OLD TESTAMENT:  NEHEMIAH 11:1 - 12:26

11:1 The princes of the people lived in Yerushalayim: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Yerushalayim the holy city, and nine parts in the [other] cities. 2 The people blessed all the men who willingly offered themselves to dwell in Yerushalayim. 3 Now these are the chiefs of the province who lived in Yerushalayim: but in the cities of Yehudah lived everyone in his possession in their cities, [to wit], Yisra'el, the Kohanim, and the Levites, and the temple servants, and the children of Shlomo's servants. 4 In Yerushalayim lived certain of the children of Yehudah, and of the children of Binyamin. Of the children of Yehudah: `Atayah the son of `Uzziyah, the son of Zekharyah, the son of Amaryah, the son of Shefatyah, the son of Mahalal'el, of the children of Peretz; 5 and Ma`aseyah the son of Barukh, the son of Kolchozeh, the son of Hazayah, the son of `Adayah, the son of Yoiariv, the son of Zekharyah, the son of the Shiloni. 6 All the sons of Peretz who lived in Yerushalayim were four hundred sixty-eight valiant men. 7  These are the sons of Binyamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Yo`ed, the son of Pedayahu, the son of Kolayah, the son of Ma`aseyah, the son of 'Iti'el, the son of Yesha`yah. 8 After him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty-eight. 9 Yo'el the son of Zikhri was their overseer; and Yehudah the son of Senu'ah was second over the city. 10 Of the Kohanim: Yedayah the son of Yoiariv, Yakhin, 11 Serayah the son of Hilkiyah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Tzadok, the son of Merayot, the son of Achituv, the ruler of the house of God, 12 and their brothers who did the work of the house, eight hundred twenty-two; and `Adayah the son of Yerocham, the son of Pelalyah, the son of Amtzi, the son of Zekharyah, the son of Pashchur, the son of Malkiyah, 13 and his brothers, chiefs of fathers' [houses], two hundred forty-two; and Amashsai the son of `Azar'el, the son of Achzai, the son of Meshillemot, the son of Immer, 14 and their brothers, mighty men of valor, one hundred twenty-eight; and their overseer was Zavdi'el, the son of Haggedolim. 15 Of the Levites: Shemayah the son of Hashshuv, the son of `Azrikam, the son of Hashavyah, the son of Bunni; 16 and Shabbetai and Yozavad, of the chiefs of the Levites, who had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God; 17  and Mattanyah the son of Mikha, the son of Zavdi, the son of Asaf, who was the chief to begin the thanksgiving in prayer, and Bakbukyah, the second among his brothers; and `Avda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Yedutun. 18 All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred eighty-four. 19 Moreover the porters, `Akkuv, Talmon, and their brothers, who kept watch at the gates, were one hundred seventy-two. 20 The residue of Yisra'el, of the Kohanim, the Levites, were in all the cities of Yehudah, everyone in his inheritance. 21 But the temple servants lived in `Ofel: and Tzicha and Gishpa were over the temple servants. 22 The overseer also of the Levites at Yerushalayim was `Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashavyah, the son of Mattanyah, the son of Mikha, of the sons of Asaf, the singers, over the business of the house of God. 23 For there was a mitzvah from the king concerning them, and a settled provision for the singers, as every day required. 24 Petachyah the son of Meshezav'el, of the children of Zerach the son of Yehudah, was at the king's hand in all matters concerning the people. 25 As for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Yehudah lived in Kiryat-Arba and the towns of it, and in Divon and the towns of it, and in Yekavtze'el and the villages of it, 26 and in Yeshua, and in Moladah, and Beit-Pelet, 27 and in Hatzar-Shu`al, and in Be'er-Sheva and the towns of it, 28 and in Tziklag, and in Mekhonah and in the towns of it, 29 and in En-rimmon, and in Tzor`ah, and in Yarmut, 30 Zanoach, `Adullam, and their villages, Lakhish and the fields of it, `Azeka and the towns of it. So they encamped from Be'er-Sheva to the valley of Hinnom. 31 The children of Binyamin also [lived] from Geva [onward], at Mikhmash and Ayah, and at Beit-El and the towns of it, 32 at `Anatot, Nov, `Ananyah, 33 Hatzor, Ramah, Gittayim, 34 Hadid, Tzevo`im, Nevalat, 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36 Of the Levites, certain courses in Yehudah [were joined] to Binyamin.

12:1 Now these are the Kohanim and the Levites who went up with Zerubbavel the son of She'alti'el, and Yeshua: Serayah, Yirmeyahu, Ezra, 2 Amaryah, Mallukh, Hattush, 3 Shekhanyahu, Rechum, Meremot, 4 `Iddo, Ginnetoi, Aviyah, 5 Miyamin, Ma`adyah, Bilgah, 6 Shemayah, and Yoiariv, Yedayah. 7  Sallu, `Amok, Hilkiyah, Yedayah. These were the chiefs of the Kohanim and of their brothers in the days of Yeshua. 8 Moreover the Levites: Yeshua, Binnui, Kadmi'el, Sherevyah, Yehudah, [and] Mattanyah, who was over the thanksgiving, he and his brothers. 9 Also Bakbukyah and Unno, their brothers, were over against them according to their offices. 10 Yeshua became the father of Yoiakim, and Yoiakim became the father of Elyashiv, and Elyashiv became the father of Yoiada, 11 and Yoiada became the father of Yonatan, and Yonatan became the father of Yaddua. 12 In the days of Yoiakim were Kohanim, heads of fathers' [houses]: of Serayah, Merayah; of Yirmeyahu, Hananyah; 13 of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amaryah, Yehochanan; 14 of Malluchi, Yonatan; of Shevanyah, Yosef; 15 of Harim, `Adna; of Merayot, Helkai; 16 of `Iddo, Zekharyah; of Ginneton, Meshullam; 17 of Aviyah, Zikhri; of Minyamin, of Mo`adyah, Piltai; 18 of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemayah, Yehonatan; 19 and of Yoiariv, Mattenai; of Yedayah, `Uzzi; 20 of Sallai, Kallai; of `Amok, `Ever; 21 of Hilkiyah, Hashavyah; of Yedayah, Netan'el. 22 As for the Levites, in the days of Elyashiv, Yoiada, and Yochanan, and Yaddua, there were recorded the heads of fathers' [houses]; also the Kohanim, in the reign of Daryavesh the Parsian. 23 The sons of Levi, heads of fathers' [houses], were written in the book of the chronicles, even until the days of Yochanan the son of Elyashiv. 24 The chiefs of the Levites: Hashavyah, Sherevyah, and Yeshua the son of Kadmi'el, with their brothers over against them, to praise and give thanks, according to the mitzvah of David the man of God, watch next to watch. 25 Mattanyah, and Bakbukyah, `Ovadyah, Meshullam, Talmon, `Akkuv, were porters keeping the watch at the store-houses of the gates.
26 These were in the days of Yoiakim the son of Yeshua, the son of Yotzadak, and in the days of Nechemyah the governor, and of Ezra the Kohen the Sofer.

NEW TESTAMENT:  1 CORINTHIANS 10:14 - 33

10:14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
15 I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
16 The cup of blessing which we bless, isn't it a communion of the blood of Messiah? The bread which we break, isn't it a communion of the body of Messiah?
17 Seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body; for we all partake of the one bread.
18 Consider Yisra'el after the flesh. Don't those who eat the sacrifices have communion with the altar?
19 What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
20 But I say that the things which the Goyim sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don't desire that you would have communion with demons.
21 You can't both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can't both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.
22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
23 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are profitable. "All things are lawful for me," but not all things build up.
24 Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor's good.
25 Whatever is sold in the butcher shop, eat, asking no question for the sake of conscience,
26 for "the eretz is the Lord's, and its fullness."
27 But if one of those who don't believe invites you to a meal, and you are inclined to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for the sake of conscience.
28 But if anyone says to you, "This was offered to idols," don't eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience. For "the eretz is the Lord's, and all its fullness."
29 Conscience, I say, not your own, but the other's conscience. For why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced for that for which I give thanks?
31 Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Give no occasions for stumbling, either to Yehudim, or to Yevanim, or to the assembly of God;
33 even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.

21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
