I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
I
will tell of all your wonders.
2
I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I
will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3
My enemies turn back;
they
stumble and perish before you.
4
For you have upheld my right and my cause;
you
have sat on your throne, judging righteously.
5
You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
you
have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6
Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy,
you
have uprooted their cities;
even
the memory of them has perished.
7
The LORD reigns forever;
he
has established his throne for judgment.
8
He will judge the world in righteousness;
he
will govern the peoples with justice.
9
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a
stronghold in times of trouble.
10
Those who know your name will trust in you,
for
you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
11
Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion;
proclaim
among the nations what he has done.
12
For he who avenges blood remembers;
he
does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. [1]
13
O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me!
Have
mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
14
that I may declare your praises
in
the gates of the Daughter of Zion
and
there rejoice in your salvation.
15
The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;
their
feet are caught in the net they have hidden.

The LORD is known by his justice;
the
wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.

1
I said, "I will watch my ways
and
keep my tongue from sin;
I
will put a muzzle on my mouth
as
long as the wicked are in my presence."
2
But when I was silent and still,
not
even saying anything good,
my
anguish increased.
3
My heart grew hot within me,
and
as I meditated, the fire burned;
then
I spoke with my tongue:
4
"Show me, O LORD, my life's end
and
the number of my days;
let
me know how fleeting is my life.
5
You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the
span of my years is as nothing before you.
Each
man's life is but a breath.
Selah
6
Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro:
He
bustles about, but only in vain;
he
heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7
"But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My
hope is in you.
8
Save me from all my transgressions;
do
not make me the scorn of fools.

for
you are the one who has done this.

Remove your scourge from me;
I
am overcome by the blow of your hand.

You rebuke and discipline men for their sin;

Save me, O God,
for
the waters have come up to my neck.
2
I sink in the miry depths,
where
there is no foothold.
I
have come into the deep waters;
the
floods engulf me.
3
I am worn out calling for help;
my
throat is parched.
My
eyes fail,
looking
for my God.
4
Those who hate me without reason
outnumber
the hairs of my head;
many
are my enemies without cause,
those
who seek to destroy me.
I
am forced to restore
what
I did not steal.
5
You know my folly, O God;
my
guilt is not hidden from you.
6
May those who hope in you
not
be disgraced because of me,
O
Lord, the LORD Almighty;
may
those who seek you
not
be put to shame because of me,
O
God of Israel.
7
For I endure scorn for your sake,
and
shame covers my face.

I am a stranger to my brothers, [5]
an
alien to my own mother's sons;

for zeal for your house consumes me,

the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

When I weep and fast,
I
must endure scorn;

when I put on sackcloth,
people
make sport of me.

Those who sit at the gate mock me,

I am the song of the drunkards.

But I pray to you, O LORD,
in
the time of your favor;
in
your great love, O God,
answer
me with your sure salvation.

Rescue me from the mire,
do
not let me sink;
deliver
me from those who hate me,
from
the deep waters.
15
Do not let the floodwaters engulf me
or
the depths swallow me up
or
the pit close its mouth over me.
16
Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love;
in
your great mercy turn to me.
17
Do not hide your face from your servant;
answer
me quickly, for I am in trouble.
18
Come near and rescue me;
redeem
me because of my foes.
19
You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed;
all
my enemies are before you.
20
Scorn has broken my heart [6]
and
has left me helpless;
I
looked for sympathy, but there was none,
for
comforters, but I found none.
21
They put gall in my food
and
gave me vinegar for my thirst.
22
May the table set before them become a snare;
may
it become retribution and A a trap.
23
May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and
their backs be bent forever.
24
Pour out your wrath on them;
let
your fierce anger overtake them.
25
May their place be deserted;
let
there be no one to dwell in their tents.
26
For they persecute those you wound
and
talk about the pain of those you hurt.
27
Charge them with crime upon crime;
do
not let them share in your salvation.
28
May they be blotted out of the book of life
and
not be listed with the righteous.
29
I am in pain and distress;
may
your salvation, O God, protect me.
30
I will praise God's name in song
and
glorify him with thanksgiving.
31
This will please the LORD more than an ox,
more
than a bull with its horns and hoofs.
32
The poor will see and be glad--
you
who seek God, may your hearts live!
33
The LORD hears the needy
and
does not despise his captive people. [7]
34
Let heaven and earth praise him,
the
seas and all that move in them,
35
for God will save Zion
and
rebuild the cities of Judah.
Then
people will settle there and possess it;
36
the children of his servants will inherit it,
and
those who love his name will dwell there. [8]
PSALMS: 99
1
The LORD reigns,
let
the nations tremble;
he
sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let
the earth shake.
2
Great is the LORD in Zion;
he
is exalted over all the nations.
3
Let them praise your great and awesome name--
he
is holy.
4
The King is mighty, he loves justice--
you
have established equity;
in
Jacob you have done
what
is just and right.
5
Exalt the LORD our God
and
worship at his footstool;
he
is holy.
6
Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel
was among those who called on his name;
they
called on the LORD
and
he answered them.
7
He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
they
kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

O LORD our God,
you
answered them;
you
were to Israel A a forgiving God,
though
you punished their misdeeds. B

A
song of ascents.
1
They have greatly oppressed me from my youth--
let
Israel say--
2
they have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
but
they have not gained the victory over me.
3
Plowmen have plowed my back
and
made their furrows long.
4
But the LORD is righteous;
he
has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.
5
May all who hate Zion
be
turned back in shame.
6
May they be like grass on the roof,
which
withers before it can grow;
7
with it the reaper cannot fill his hands,
nor
the one who gathers fill his arms.
8
May those who pass by not say,
"The
blessing of the LORD be upon you;
we
bless you in the name of the LORD." [10]
PROVERBS: 9
91
Wisdom has built her house;
she
has hewn out its seven pillars.
2
She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she
has also set her table.
3
She has sent out her maids, and she calls
from
the highest point of the city.
4
"Let all who are
simple come in here!"
she
says to those who lack judgment.
5
"Come, eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your
simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of understanding.
7
"Whoever corrects a
mocker invites insult;
whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse.
8 Do not
rebuke a mocker or he will hate you;
rebuke a wise man and he will love you.
9 Instruct a
wise man and he will be wiser still;
teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.
10
"The fear of the LORD
is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For
through me your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are
wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer."
13
The woman Folly is loud;
she
is undisciplined and without knowledge.
14
She sits at the door of her house,
on
a seat at the highest point of the city,
15
calling out to those who pass by,
who
go straight on their way.
16
"Let all who are simple
come in here!" [11]
she
says to those who lack judgment.
17
"Stolen water is
sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!"
18
But little do they know that the dead are there,
that
her guests are in the depths of the grave. A [12]
OLD TESTAMENT: LEVITICUS 22:17 - 23:44
17 The
LORD said to Moses, 18 "Speak to Aaron
and his sons and to all the Israelites and say to them: `If any of you--either
an Israelite or an alien living in Israel--presents a gift for a burnt offering
to the LORD, either to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, 19 you must present a
male without defect from the cattle, sheep or goats in order that it may be
accepted on your behalf. 20 Do not bring anything with a defect, because it will not be
accepted on your behalf. 21 When anyone brings from the herd or flock a fellowship
offering C to the LORD to fulfill a
special vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without defect or blemish to
be acceptable.
22 Do not offer
to the LORD the blind, the injured or the maimed, or anything with warts or
festering or running sores. Do not place any of these on the altar as an
offering made to the LORD by fire. 23 You may,
however, present as a freewill offering an ox D or a sheep that is deformed or stunted, but it will not be accepted in
fulfillment of a vow. 24 You must not offer to the LORD an animal whose testicles are bruised,
crushed, torn or cut. You must not do this in your own land, 25 and you must
not accept such animals from the hand of a foreigner and offer them as the food
of your God. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are
deformed and have defects.'"
26 The
LORD said to Moses, 27 "When a calf, a
lamb or a goat is born, it is to remain with its mother for seven days. From
the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as an offering made to the LORD by
fire. 28 Do not slaughter a cow or a sheep and its young on the same
day.
29 "When
you sacrifice a thank offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it
will be accepted on your behalf. 30 It must be
eaten that same day; leave none of it till morning. I am the LORD.
31 "Keep my
commands and follow them. I am the LORD. 32 Do not
profane my holy name. I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am
the LORD, who makes E you holy F
33 and who
brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD."
23 1
The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: `These are my
appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim
as sacred assemblies.
3 "`There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a
Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever
you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.
4 "`These are the LORD's appointed
feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: 5 The LORD's
Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the
fifteenth day of that month the LORD's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; for
seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first
day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. 8 For seven
days present an offering made to the LORD by fire. And on the seventh day hold
a sacred assembly and do no regular work.'" [13]
9 The LORD said to Moses, 10 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: `When you enter the
land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a
sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be
accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath.
12 On the day you wave the sheaf,
you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the LORD a lamb a year old without
defect, 13 together with its grain offering of two-tenths of an ephahA
of fine flour mixed with oil--an offering made to the LORD by fire, a pleasing
aroma--and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin B of wine. 14 You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until
the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting
ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.
15 "`From
the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering,
count off seven full weeks. 16 Count off
fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an
offering of new grain to the LORD. 17 From wherever
you live, bring two loaves made of two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour, baked
with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the LORD. 18 Present with
this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull
and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the LORD, together with their
grain offerings and drink offerings--an offering made by fire, an aroma
pleasing to the LORD. 19 Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs, each a
year old, for a fellowship offering.C
20 The
priest is to wave the two lambs before the LORD as a wave offering, together
with the bread of the firstfruits. They are a sacred offering to the LORD for
the priest. 21 On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly and
do no regular work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to
come, wherever you live.
22 "`When
you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field
or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien.
I am the LORD your God.'"
23 The
LORD said to Moses, 24 "Say to the
Israelites: `On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of
rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. 25 Do no
regular work, but present an offering made to the LORD by fire.' "
26 The
LORD said to Moses, 27 "The tenth day
of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny
yourselves,D and present an offering
made to the LORD by fire. 28 Do no work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement,
when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. 29 Anyone who does not
deny himself on that day must be cut off from his people. 30 I will destroy from
among his people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work
at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever
you live.
32 It is a
sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the
ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your
sabbath."
33 The
LORD said to Moses, 34 "Say to the
Israelites: `On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the LORD's Feast of
Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days.
35 The first day
is a sacred assembly; do no regular work. 36 For seven
days present offerings made to the LORD by fire, and [14] on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present an offering made
to the LORD by fire. It is the closing assembly; do no regular work.
37 ("`These
are the LORD's appointed feasts, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies
for bringing offerings made to the LORD by fire--the burnt offerings and grain
offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings required for each day. 38 These offerings
are in addition to those for the LORD's Sabbaths and E in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the
freewill offerings you give to the LORD.)
39 "`So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after
you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD for
seven days; the first day is a day of rest, and the eighth day also is a day of
rest. 40 On the first day you are to take choice fruit from the trees, and palm
fronds, leafy branches and poplars, and rejoice before the LORD your God for
seven days. 41 Celebrate this as a festival to the LORD for seven days each year. This
is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the
seventh month. 42 Live in booths for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live
in booths 43 so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in booths
when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'
"
44 So
Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed feasts of the LORD.[15]
NEW TESTAMENT: MARK 9:30 - 10:12
30 They
left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know
where they were,
31 because
he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The
Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him,
and after three days he will rise." 32 But they did not
understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They
came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?" 34
But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the
greatest.
35 Sitting
down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If
anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."
36 He
took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he
said to them, 37 "Whoever welcomes one
of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does
not welcome me but the one who sent me."
38 "Teacher,"
said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him
to stop, because he was not one of us."
39 "Do not stop him," Jesus said. "No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment
say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 I tell you the truth,
anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ
will certainly not lose his reward.
42 "And if
anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be
better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his
neck. 43 If your hand
causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than
with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.C
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut
it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and
be thrown into hell.D 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is
better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes
and be thrown into hell, 48 where
" `their
worm does not die,
and the fire
is not quenched.'E
49 Everyone will
be salted with fire.
50 "Salt is
good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt
in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."
10 1
Jesus then left that place and went into the region of
Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his
custom, he taught them. [16]
2 Some
Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce
his wife?"
3 "What did Moses command you?" he replied.
4 They
said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send
her away."
5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you
this law," Jesus replied.
6 "But at the beginning of creation God `made them male and
female.'A 7 `For this
reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, B
8 and the two will become one flesh.'C So they are no longer two, but one. 9 Therefore what God
has joined together, let man not separate."
10 When
they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He
answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and
marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces
her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." [17]
