Of
David.
1
The
LORD is my light and my salvation--
whom
shall I fear?
The
LORD is the stronghold of my life--
of
whom shall I be afraid?
2
When
evil men advance against me
to
devour my flesh, A
when
my enemies and my foes attack me,
they
will stumble and fall.
3
Though
an army besiege me,
my
heart will not fear;
though
war break out against me,
even
then will I be confident.
4
One
thing I ask of the LORD,
this
is what I seek:
that
I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all
the days of my life,
to
gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and
to seek him in his temple.
5
For
in the day of trouble
he
will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he
will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and
set me high upon a rock.
6
Then
my head will be exalted
above
the enemies who surround me;
at
his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I
will sing and make music to the LORD.
[1]
7
Hear
my voice when I call, O LORD;
be
merciful to me and answer me.
8
My
heart says of you, "Seek his B face!"
Your
face, LORD, I will seek.
9
Do
not hide your face from me,
do
not turn your servant away in anger;
you
have been my helper.
Do
not reject me or forsake me,
O
God my Savior.
10
Though
my father and mother forsake me,
the
LORD will receive me.
11
Teach
me your way, O LORD;
lead
me in a straight path
because
of my oppressors.
12
Do
not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for
false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing
out violence.
13
I
am still confident of this:
I
will see the goodness of the LORD
in
the land of the living.
14
Wait
for the LORD;
be
strong and take heart
and
wait for the LORD.
PSALMS: 57
1
Have
mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me,
for
in you my soul takes refuge.
I
will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until
the disaster has passed.
2
I
cry out to God Most High,
to
God, who fulfills his purpose for me.
3
He
sends from heaven and saves me,
rebuking
those who hotly pursue me;
Selah
God
sends his love and his faithfulness.
4
I
am in the midst of lions;
I
lie among ravenous beasts--
men
whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose
tongues are sharp swords.
5
Be
exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let
your glory be over all the earth.
6
They
spread a net for my feet--
I
was bowed down in distress.
They
dug a pit in my path--
but
they have fallen into it themselves.
Selah [2]
7
My
heart is steadfast, O God,
my
heart is steadfast;
I
will sing and make music.
8
Awake,
my soul!
Awake,
harp and lyre!
I
will awaken the dawn.
9
I
will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
I
will sing of you among the peoples.
10
For
great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your
faithfulness reaches to the skies.
11
Be
exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let
your glory be over all the earth. [3]

Of
the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.
1
He
has set his foundation on the holy mountain;
2
the
LORD loves the gates of Zion
more
than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3
Glorious
things are said of you,
O
city of God:
Selah
4
"I will record Rahab A and Babylon
among
those who acknowledge me--
Philistia
too, and Tyre, along with Cush B--
and
will say, `This C
one was born in Zion.'"
5
Indeed,
of Zion it will be said,
"This one and that one were born in
her,
and
the Most High himself will establish her."
6
The
LORD will write in the register of the peoples:
"This one was born in Zion."
Selah
7
As
they make music they will sing,
"All my fountains are in you." [4]
PSALMS: 117

Praise
the LORD, all you nations;
extol
him, all you peoples.
2
For
great is his love toward us,
and
the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.
Praise
the LORD. A [5]
PSALMS: 147
1
Praise
the LORD. A
How
good it is to sing praises to our God,
how
pleasant and fitting to praise him!
2
The
LORD builds up Jerusalem;
he
gathers the exiles of Israel.
3
He
heals the brokenhearted
and
binds up their wounds.
4
He
determines the number of the stars
and
calls them each by name.
5
Great
is our Lord and mighty in power;
his
understanding has no limit.
6
The
LORD sustains the humble
but
casts the wicked to the ground.
7
Sing
to the LORD with thanksgiving;
make
music to our God on the harp.
8
He
covers the sky with clouds;
he
supplies the earth with rain
and
makes grass grow on the hills.
9
He
provides food for the cattle
and
for the young ravens when they call.
10
His
pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor
his delight in the legs of a man;
11
the
LORD delights in those who fear him,
who
put their hope in his unfailing love. [6]
12
Extol
the LORD, O Jerusalem;
praise
your God, O Zion,
13
for
he strengthens the bars of your gates
and
blesses your people within you.
14
He
grants peace to your borders
and
satisfies you with the finest of wheat.
15
He
sends his command to the earth;
his
word runs swiftly.
16
He
spreads the snow like wool
and
scatters the frost like ashes.
17
He
hurls down his hail like pebbles.
Who
can withstand his icy blast?
18
He
sends his word and melts them;
he
stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.
19
He
has revealed his word to Jacob,
his
laws and decrees to Israel.
20
He
has done this for no other nation;
they
do not know his laws.
Praise
the LORD. [7]

1
Do not boast about tomorrow,
for
you do not know what a day may bring forth.
2
Let
another praise you, and not your own mouth;
someone
else, and not your own lips.
3
Stone
is heavy and sand a burden,
but
provocation by a fool is heavier than both.
4
Anger
is cruel and fury overwhelming,
but
who can stand before jealousy?
5
Better
is open rebuke
than
hidden love.
6
Wounds
from a friend can be trusted,
but
an enemy multiplies kisses.
7
He
who is full loathes honey,
but
to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
8
Like
a bird that strays from its nest
is
a man who strays from his home.
9
Perfume
and incense bring joy to the heart,
and
the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest
counsel.
10
Do
not forsake your friend and the friend of your father,
and
do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes
you--
better
a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
11
Be
wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart;
then
I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt. [8]
12
The
prudent see danger and take refuge,
but
the simple keep going and suffer for it.
13
Take
the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold
it in pledge if he does it for a wayward woman.
14
If
a man loudly blesses his neighbor early in the morning,
it
will be taken as a curse.

A
quarrelsome wife is like
a
constant dripping on a rainy day;
16
restraining
her is like restraining the wind

grasping oil with the hand.
17
As
iron sharpens iron,
so
one man sharpens another.
18
He
who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and
he who looks after his master will be honored.
19
As
water reflects a face,

a man's heart reflects the man.
20
Death

and
neither are the eyes of man.

The

Though
you grind a fool in a mortar,
grinding
him like grain with a pestle,
you
will not remove his folly from him. [9]
23
Be
sure you know the condition of your flocks,
give
careful attention to your herds;
24
for
riches do not endure forever,
and
a crown is not secure for all generations.

When
the hay is removed and new growth appears
and
the grass from the hills is gathered in,
26
the
lambs will provide you with clothing,
and
the goats with the price of a field.
27
You
will have plenty of goats' milk
to
feed you and your family
and
to nourish your servant girls. [10]
OLD
TESTAMENT: JOSHUA 16:1 - 18:28
16
1
The
allotment for Joseph began at the Jordan of Jericho, A east of the
waters of Jericho, and went up from there through the desert into the hill
country of Bethel. 2 It went on from Bethel (that is, Luz),
B crossed over to the territory of the Arkites in Ataroth, 3
descended westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the
region of Lower Beth Horon and on to Gezer, ending at the sea. 4 So
Manasseh and Ephraim, the descendants of Joseph, received their inheritance.
5 This was the territory of
Ephraim, clan by clan:
The
boundary of their inheritance went from Ataroth Addar in the east to Upper Beth
Horon 6 and continued to the sea. From Micmethath on the north it
curved eastward to Taanath Shiloh, passing by it to Janoah on the east. 7
Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and Naarah, touched Jericho and
came out at the Jordan. 8 From Tappuah the border went west to the
Kanah Ravine and ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the
Ephraimites, clan by clan. 9 It also included all the towns and their
villages that were set aside for the Ephraimites within the inheritance of the
Manassites. 10 They did not dislodge the Canaanites living in Gezer;
to this day the Canaanites live among the people of Ephraim but are required to
do forced labor.
17
1
This
was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph's firstborn, that is, for
Makir, Manasseh's firstborn. Makir was the ancestor of the Gileadites, who had
received Gilead and Bashan because the Makirites were great soldiers. 2
So this allotment was [11]for
the rest of the people of Manasseh--the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel,
Shechem, Hepher and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of Manasseh
son of Joseph by their clans.
3
Now
Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of
Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah,
Milcah and Tirzah. 4 They went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of
Nun, and the leaders and said, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an
inheritance among our brothers." So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with
the brothers of their father, according to the LORD's command. 5
Manasseh's share consisted of ten tracts of land besides Gilead and Bashan
east of the Jordan, 6 because the daughters of the tribe of Manasseh
received an inheritance among the sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest
of the descendants of Manasseh.
7
The
territory of Manasseh extended from Asher to Micmethath east of Shechem. The
boundary ran southward from there to include the people living at En Tappuah.
8
(Manasseh
had the land of Tappuah, but Tappuah itself, on the boundary of Manasseh,
belonged to the Ephraimites.) 9 Then the boundary continued south to
the Kanah Ravine. There were towns belonging to Ephraim lying among the towns of
Manasseh, but the boundary of Manasseh was the northern side of the ravine and
ended at the sea. 10 On the south the land belonged to Ephraim, on
the north to Manasseh. The territory of Manasseh reached the sea and bordered
Asher on the north and Issachar on the east. [12]
11
Within
Issachar and Asher, Manasseh also had Beth Shan, Ibleam and the people of Dor,
Endor, Taanach and Megiddo, together with their surrounding settlements (the
third in the list is Naphoth A). 12 Yet the Manassites
were not able to occupy these towns, for the Canaanites were determined to live
in that region. 13 However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they
subjected the Canaanites to forced labor but did not drive them out completely.
14
The
people of Joseph said to Joshua, "Why have you given us only one allotment and
one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people and the LORD has
blessed us abundantly."
15
"If
you are so numerous," Joshua answered, "and if the hill country of Ephraim is
too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in
the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites."
16
The
people of Joseph replied, "The hill country is not enough for us, and all the
Canaanites who live in the plain have iron chariots, both those in Beth Shan and
its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel."
17
But
Joshua said to the house of Joseph--to Ephraim and Manasseh--"You are numerous
and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18 but the
forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours;
though the Canaanites have iron chariots and though they are strong, you can
drive them out." [13]
18
1
The
whole assembly of the Israelites gathered at Shiloh and set up the Tent of
Meeting there. The country was brought under their control, 2 but
there were still seven Israelite tribes who had not yet received their
inheritance.
3
So
Joshua said to the Israelites: "How long will you wait before you begin to take
possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
4 Appoint three men from each tribe. I will send them out to make a
survey of the land and to write a description of it, according to the
inheritance of each. Then they will return to me.
5
You
are to divide the land into seven parts. Judah is to remain in its territory on
the south and the house of Joseph in its territory on the north. 6
After you have written descriptions of the seven parts of the land, bring
them here to me and I will cast lots for you in the presence of the LORD our
God. 7 The Levites, however, do not get a portion among you, because
the priestly service of the LORD is their inheritance. And Gad, Reuben and the
half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their inheritance on the east side
of the Jordan. Moses the servant of the LORD gave it to them."
8
As
the men started on their way to map out the land, Joshua instructed them, "Go
and make a survey of the land and write a description of it. Then return to me,
and I will cast lots for you here at Shiloh in the presence of the LORD." 9
So the men left and went through the land. They wrote its description on a
scroll, town by town, in seven parts, and returned to Joshua in the camp at
Shiloh. [14]
10 Joshua then cast lots for them in Shiloh in the presence of the
LORD, and there he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their
tribal divisions.
11
The
lot came up for the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan. Their allotted territory
lay between the tribes of Judah and Joseph:
12
On
the north side their boundary began at the Jordan, passed the northern slope of
Jericho and headed west into the hill country, coming out at the desert of Beth
Aven.
13
From
there it crossed to the south slope of Luz (that is, Bethel) and went down to
Ataroth Addar on the hill south of Lower Beth Horon.
14
From
the hill facing Beth Horon on the south the boundary turned south along the
western side and came out at Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a town of
the people of Judah. This was the western side.
15
The
southern side began at the outskirts of Kiriath Jearim on the west, and the
boundary came out at the spring of the waters of Nephtoah. 16 The
boundary went down to the foot of the hill facing the Valley of Ben Hinnom,
north of the Valley of Rephaim. It continued down the Hinnom Valley along the
southern slope of the Jebusite city and so to En Rogel. 17 It then
curved north, went to En Shemesh, continued to Geliloth, which faces the Pass of
Adummim, and ran down to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 18 It
continued to the northern slope of Beth Arabah A and on down into the
Arabah. 19 It then went to the northern slope of Beth Hoglah and came
out at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, B at the mouth of the Jordan
in the south. This was the southern boundary.
20
The
Jordan formed the boundary on the eastern side. [15]
These were the boundaries that marked out the inheritance of the clans of
Benjamin on all sides.
21 The tribe of Benjamin, clan by
clan, had the following cities:
Jericho,
Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz, 22 Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, 23
Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, 24 Kephar Ammoni, Ophni and Geba--twelve
towns and their villages.
25
Gibeon,
Ramah, Beeroth, 26 Mizpah, Kephirah, Mozah, 27 Rekem,
Irpeel, Taralah, 28 Zelah, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (that is,
Jerusalem), Gibeah and Kiriath--fourteen towns and their villages.
This
was the inheritance of Benjamin for its clans. [16]
NEW
TESTAMENT: LUKE 19:1 - 27
19
1
Jesus
entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the
name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He
wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the
crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him,
since Jesus was coming that way.
5
When
Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house
today." 6 So he came down at once
and welcomed him gladly.
7
All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a
`sinner.'"
8
But
Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half
of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I
will pay back four times the amount."
9
Jesus
said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house,
because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was
lost."
11
While
they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was
near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to
appear at once. 12 He said: "A man of noble
birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed [17] king and then to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.
A `Put this money to work,' he said,
`until I come back.'
14
"But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, `We don't
want this man to be our king.'
15
"He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to
whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.
16
"The first one came and said, `Sir, your mina has earned ten more.'
17
"`Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. `Because you have been
trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.'
18
"The second came and said, `Sir, your mina has earned five more.'
19
"His master answered, `You take charge of five cities.'
20
"Then another servant came and said, `Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it
laid away in a piece of cloth. 21
I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not
put in and reap what you did not sow.'
22
"His master replied, `I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant!
You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and
reaping what I did not sow? 23
Why
then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have
collected it with interest?'
24
"Then he said to those standing by, `Take his mina away from [18]
didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have
collected it with interest?'
24
"Then he said to those standing by, `Take his mina away from
him and give it to the one who has ten minas.'
25 "`Sir,'
they said, `he already has ten!'
26
"He replied, `I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as
for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.
27
But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them
here and kill them in front of me.'"

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
