1
Why
do the nations conspire A
and
the peoples plot in vain?
2
The
kings of the earth take their stand
and
the rulers gather together
against
the LORD
and
against his Anointed One. B
3
"Let
us break their chains," they say,
"and
throw off their fetters."
4
The
One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the
Lord scoffs at them.
5
Then
he rebukes them in his anger
and
terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6
"I have installed my King C
on
Zion, my holy hill."
7
I
will proclaim the decree of the LORD:
He
said to me, "You are my Son
D;
today
I have become your Father.
E
8
Ask
of me,
and
I will make the nations your inheritance,
the
ends of the earth your possession.
9
You
will rule them with an iron scepter F;
you
will dash them to pieces like pottery."
10
Therefore,
you kings, be wise;
be
warned, you rulers of the earth.
11
Serve
the LORD with fear
and
rejoice with trembling.
12
Kiss
the Son, lest he be angry
and
you be destroyed in your way,
for
his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed
are all who take refuge in him. [1]
PSALMS: 32
Of
David. A maskil. A
1
Blessed
is he
whose
transgressions are forgiven,
whose
sins are covered.
2
Blessed
is the man
whose
sin the LORD does not count against him
and
in whose spirit is no deceit.
3
When
I kept silent,
my
bones wasted away
through
my groaning all day long.
4
For
day and night
your
hand was heavy upon me;
my
strength was sapped
as
in the heat of summer.
Selah
5
Then
I acknowledged my sin to you
and
did not cover up my iniquity.
I
said, "I will confess
my
transgressions to the LORD"--
and
you forgave
the
guilt of my sin.
Selah
6
Therefore
let everyone who is godly pray to you
while
you may be found;
surely
when the mighty waters rise,
they
will not reach him.
7
You
are my hiding place; [2]
you
will protect me from trouble
and
surround me with songs of deliverance.
Selah
8
I
will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I
will counsel you and watch over you.
9
Do
not be like the horse or the mule,
which
have no understanding
but
must be controlled by bit and bridle
or
they will not come to you.
10
Many
are the woes of the wicked,
but
the LORD's unfailing love
surrounds
the man who trusts in him.
11
Rejoice
in the LORD and be glad, you righteous;
sing,
all you who are upright in heart! [3]
PSALMS: 62
For
the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.
1
My
soul finds rest in God alone;
my
salvation comes from him.
2
He
alone is my rock and my salvation;
he
is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
3
How
long will you assault a man?
Would
all of you throw him down--
this
leaning wall, this tottering fence?
4
They
fully intend to topple him
from
his lofty place;
they
take delight in lies.
With
their mouths they bless,
but
in their hearts they curse.
Selah
5
Find
rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my
hope comes from him.
6
He
alone is my rock and my salvation;
he
is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7
My
salvation and my honor depend on God A;
he
is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8
Trust
in him at all times, O people;
pour
out your hearts to him,
for
God is our refuge.
Selah
9
Lowborn
men are but a breath, [4]
the
highborn are but a lie;
if
weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together
they are only a breath.
10
Do
not trust in extortion
or
take pride in stolen goods;
though
your riches increase,
do
not set your heart on them.
11
One
thing God has spoken,
two
things have I heard:
that
you, O God, are strong,
12
and
that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely
you will reward each person
according
to what he has done. [5]
PSALMS: 92
A
psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.
1
It
is good to praise the LORD
and
make music to your name, O Most High,
2
to
proclaim your love in the morning
and
your faithfulness at night,
3
to
the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and
the melody of the harp.
4
For
you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD;
I
sing for joy at the works of your hands.
5
How
great are your works, O LORD,
how
profound your thoughts!
6
The
senseless man does not know,
fools
do not understand,
7
that
though the wicked spring up like grass
and
all evildoers flourish,
they
will be forever destroyed.
8
But
you, O LORD, are exalted forever.
9
For
surely your enemies, O LORD,
surely
your enemies will perish;
all
evildoers will be scattered.
10
You
have exalted my horn A like that of a wild ox;
fine
oils have been poured upon me.
11
My
eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
my
ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
12
The
righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they
will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13
planted
in the house of the LORD, [6]
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14
They
will still bear fruit in old age,
they
will stay fresh and green,
15
proclaiming,
"The LORD is upright;
he
is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him." [7]
PSALMS: 122
A
song of ascents. Of David.
1
I
rejoiced with those who said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the
LORD."
2
Our
feet are standing
in
your gates, O Jerusalem.
3
Jerusalem
is built like a city
that
is closely compacted together.
4
That
is where the tribes go up,
the
tribes of the LORD,
to
praise the name of the LORD
according
to the statute given to Israel.
5
There
the thrones for judgment stand,
the
thrones of the house of David.
6
Pray
for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be
secure.
7 May
there be peace within your walls
and
security within your citadels."
8
For
the sake of my brothers and friends,
I
will say, "Peace be within you."
9
For
the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I
will seek your prosperity. [8]
PROVERBS: 2
2
1
My son, if you accept my words
and
store up my commands within you,
2
turning
your ear to wisdom
and
applying your heart to understanding,
3
and
if you call out for insight
and
cry aloud for understanding,
4
and
if you look for it as for silver
and
search for it as for hidden treasure,
5
then
you will understand the fear of the LORD
and
find the knowledge of God.
6
For
the LORD gives wisdom,
and
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7
He
holds victory in store for the upright,
he
is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8
for
he guards the course of the just
and
protects the way of his faithful ones.
9
Then
you will understand what is right and just
and
fair--every good path.
10
For
wisdom will enter your heart,
and
knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11
Discretion
will protect you,
and
understanding will guard you.
12
Wisdom
will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from
men whose words are perverse,
13
who
leave the straight paths
to
walk in dark ways,
14
who
delight in doing wrong
and
rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15
whose
paths are crooked
and
who are devious in their ways.
16
It
will save you also from the adulteress,
from
the wayward wife with her seductive words [9]
17
who
has left the partner of her youth
and
ignored the covenant she made before God. A
18
For
her house leads down to death
and
her paths to the spirits of the dead.
19
None
who go to her return
or
attain the paths of life.
20
Thus
you will walk in the ways of good men
and
keep to the paths of the righteous.
21
For
the upright will live in the land,
and
the blameless will remain in it;
22
but
the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and
the unfaithful will be torn from it. [10]
OLD
TESTAMENT: DEUTERONOMY 2:1 - 3:29
2
1
Then
we turned back and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea,
A as the LORD had directed me. For a long time we made our way around
the hill country of Seir.
2
Then
the LORD said to me, 3 You have made your
way around this hill country long enough; now turn north.
4 Give the people these orders: `You
are about to pass through the territory of your brothers the descendants of
Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.
5 Do not provoke them to war, for I
will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have
given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own. 6 You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the
water you drink.' "
7The
LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over
your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the LORD your God has
been with you, and you have not lacked anything.
8
So
we went on past our brothers the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. We
turned from the Arabah road, which comes up from Elath and Ezion Geber, and
traveled along the desert road of Moab. [11]
9
Then
the LORD said to me, "Do not harass the Moabites or
provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have
given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession."
10
(The
Emites used to live there--a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the
Anakites. 11 Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites,
but the Moabites called them Emites. 12 Horites used to live in Seir,
but the descendants of Esau drove them out. They destroyed the Horites from
before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did in the land the LORD
gave them as their possession.)
13
And
the LORD said, "Now get up and cross the Zered
Valley." So we crossed the valley.
14
Thirty-eight
years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered
Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the
camp, as the LORD had sworn to them. 15 The LORD's hand was against
them until he had completely eliminated them from the camp. [12]
16
Now
when the last of these fighting men among the people had died, 17 the
LORD said to me, 18 "Today you are to pass
by the region of Moab at Ar. 19 When
you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them to war, for I will
not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it
as a possession to the descendants of Lot."
20
(That
too was considered a land of the Rephaites, who used to live there; but the
Ammonites called them Zamzummites. 21 They were a people strong and
numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. The LORD destroyed them from before the
Ammonites, who drove them out and settled in their place. 22 The LORD
had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who lived in Seir, when he
destroyed the Horites from before them. They drove them out and have lived in
their place to this day. 23 And as for the Avvites who lived in
villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor B
destroyed them and settled in their place.)
24
"Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given
into your hand Sihon the [13]
Amorite,
king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him
in battle.
25 This very day I will begin to put the
terror and fear of you on all the nations under heaven. They will hear reports
of you and will tremble and be in anguish because of you."
26
From
the desert of Kedemoth I sent messengers to Sihon king of Heshbon offering peace
and saying, 27 "Let us pass through your country. We will stay on the
main road; we will not turn aside to the right or to the left. 28
Sell us food to eat and water to drink for their price in silver. Only let
us pass through on foot—29 as the descendants of Esau, who live in
Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us--until we cross the Jordan
into the land the LORD our God is giving us." 30 But Sihon king of
Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the LORD your God had made his
spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands, as
he has now done.
31
The
LORD said to me, "See, I have begun to deliver Sihon
and his country over to you. Now begin to conquer and possess his land."
[14]
32
When
Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz, 33 the
LORD our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, together with his
sons and his whole army. 34 At that time we took all his towns and
completely destroyed C them--men, women and children. We left no
survivors. 35 But the livestock and the plunder from the towns we had
captured we carried off for ourselves. 36 From Aroer on the rim of
the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the gorge, even as far as Gilead, not one
town was too strong for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them. 37
But in accordance with the command of the LORD our God, you did not
encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites, neither the land along the course
of the Jabbok nor that around the towns in the hills.
3
1
Next
we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of Bashan with
his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei. 2 The LORD
said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have
handed him over to you with his whole army and his land. Do to him what
[15]
you
did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon."
3
So
the LORD our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan and all his army. We
struck them down, leaving no survivors. 4 At that time we took all
his cities. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from
them--the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan. 5 All these
cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were
also a great many unwalled villages. 6 We completely destroyed
A them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying
B every city--men, women and children. 7 But all the
livestock and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves.
8
So
at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites the territory east of
the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.
9
(Hermon
is called Sirion by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.) 10 We
took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as
Salecah and Edrei, towns of Og's kingdom in Bashan. [16]
11
(Only
Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaites. His bed C
was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide.
D It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites.)
12
Of
the land that we took over at that time, I gave the Reubenites and the Gadites
the territory north of Aroer by the Arnon Gorge, including half the hill country
of Gilead, together with its towns. 13 The rest of Gilead and also
all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh. (The
whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites.
14 Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as
far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites; it was named after him,
so that to this day Bashan is called Havvoth Jair. E) 15
And I gave Gilead to Makir. 16 But to the Reubenites and the
Gadites I gave the territory extending from Gilead down to the Arnon Gorge (the
middle of the gorge being the border) and out to the Jabbok River, which is the
border of the Ammonites. 17 Its western border was the Jordan in the
Arabah, from Kinnereth to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt [17]
Sea F), below the slopes of Pisgah.
18
I
commanded you at that time: "The LORD your God has given you this land to take
possession of it. But all your able-bodied men, armed for battle, must cross
over ahead of your brother Israelites. 19 However, your wives, your
children and your livestock (I know you have much livestock) may stay in the
towns I have given you, 20 until the LORD gives rest to your brothers
as he has to you, and they too have taken over the land that the LORD your God
is giving them, across the Jordan. After that, each of you may go back to the
possession I have given you."
21
At
that time I commanded Joshua: "You have seen with your own eyes all that the
LORD your God has done to these two kings. The LORD will do the same to all the
kingdoms over there where you are going. 22 Do not be afraid of them;
the LORD your God himself will fight for you."
23
At
that time I pleaded with the LORD: 24 "O Sovereign LORD, you have
begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god
is there in heaven or on [18]
earth
who can do the deeds and mighty works you do? 25 Let me go over and
see the good land beyond the Jordan--that fine hill country and Lebanon."
26
But
because of you the LORD was angry with me and would not listen to me. "That is enough," the LORD said. "Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.
27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and
look west and north and south and east. Look at the land with your own eyes,
since you are not going to cross this Jordan. 28 But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him,
for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that
you will see." 29 So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.

NEW
TESTAMENT: Luke 6:12 -
38
12
One
of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night
praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him
and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: 14 Simon
(whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the
Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a
traitor.
17
He
went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples
was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and
from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to
be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil A spirits were
cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was
coming from him and healing them all.
20
Looking
at his disciples, he said:
"Blessed are you who are poor,
for
yours is the kingdom of God.
for
you will be satisfied.
Blessed
are you who weep now,
for
you will laugh.
22
Blessed are you when men hate you,
when
they exclude you and insult you
and
reject your name as evil,
because
of the Son of Man.
23
"Rejoice
in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that
is how their fathers treated the prophets.
24
"But woe to you who are rich,
for
you have already received your comfort.
25
Woe to you who are well fed now,
for
you will go hungry.
Woe
to you who laugh now,
for
you will mourn and weep.
26
Woe to you when all men speak well of you,
for
that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.
27
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to
those who hate you, [21]
28
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29
If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone
takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30
Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not
demand it back. 31
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even `sinners' love
those who love them. 33
And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you?
Even `sinners' do that. 34
And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to
you? Even `sinners' lend to `sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full.
35
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to
get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the
Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. [22]
38
Give,
and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and
running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it
will be measured to you." [23]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
