PSALMS: 1
1 How blessed are those who reject the advice of the wicked,
don't stand on the way of sinners or sit where scoffers sit!
2 Their delight is in ADONAI's Torah;
on his Torah they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams -they bear their fruit in season,
their leaves never wither, everything they do succeeds.
4 Not so the wicked, who are like chaff driven by the wind.
5 For this reason the wicked won't stand up to the judgment,
nor will sinners at the gathering of the righteous.
6 For ADONAI watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked is doomed.
PSALMS: 31
1 For the leader.
A psalm of David:
In you, ADONAI, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
in your justice, save me!
2 Turn your ear toward me, come quickly to my rescue,
be for me a rock of strength, a fortress to keep me safe.
3 Since you are my rock and fortress, lead me and guide me for your name's sake.
4 Free me from the net they have hidden to catch me, because you are my strength.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you will redeem me, ADONAI, God of truth.
6 I hate those who serve worthless idols;
as for me, I trust in ADONAI.
7 I will rejoice and be glad in your grace,
for you see my affliction,
you know how distressed I am.
8 You did not hand me over to the enemy;
you set my feet where I can move freely.
9 Show me favor, ADONAI, for I am in trouble.
My eyes grow dim with anger, my soul and body as well.
10 For my life is worn out with sorrow and my years with sighing;
my strength gives out under my guilt, and my bones are wasting away.
11 I am scorned by all my adversaries, and even more by my neighbors;
even to acquaintances I am an object of fear when they see me in the street,
they turn away from me.
12 Like a dead man, I have passed from their minds;
I have become like a broken pot.
13 All I hear is whispering, terror is all around me;
they plot together against me, scheming to take my life.
14 But I, I trust in you, ADONAI; I say, "You are my God."
15 My times are in your hand;
rescue me from my enemies' power, from those who persecute me.
16 Make your face shine on your servant;
in your grace, save me.
17 ADONAI, don't let me be put to shame,
for I have called on you;
let the wicked be put to shame, l
et them be silenced in Sh'ol.
18 May lying lips be struck dumb,
that speak insolently against the righteous with such pride and contempt.
19 But oh, how great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you,
which you do for those who take refuge in you, before people's very eyes!
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from human plots,
you conceal them in your shelter, safe from contentious tongues.
21 Blessed be ADONAI!
For he has shown me his amazing grace when I was in a city under siege.
22 As for me, in my alarm I said, "I have been cut off from your sight!
"Nevertheless, you heard my pleas when I cried out to you.
23 Love ADONAI, you faithful of his.
ADONAI preserves the loyal, but the proud he repays in full.
24 Be strong, and fill your hearts with courage,
all of you who hope in ADONAI.
PSALMS: 61
1 For the leader.
A psalm of David:
In you, ADONAI, I take refuge;

PSALMS: 91
1 You who live in the shelter of 'Elyon,
who spend your nights in the shadow of Shaddai,
2 who say to ADONAI,
"My refuge!
My fortress!
My God, in whom I trust!"
3 he will rescue you from the trap of the hunter and from the plague of calamities;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his truth is a shield and protection.
5 You will not fear the terrors of night or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the plague that roams in the dark,
or the scourge that wreaks havoc at noon.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand;
but it won't come near you.
8 Only keep your eyes open, and you will see how the wicked are punished.
9 For you have made ADONAI, the Most High,
who is my refuge, your dwelling-place.
10 No disaster will happen to you,
no calamity will come near your tent;
11 for he will order his angels to care for you and guard you wherever you go.
12 They will carry you in their hands,
so that you won't trip on a stone.
13 You will tread down lions and snakes,
young lions and serpents you will trample underfoot.
14 "Because he loves me, I will rescue him;
because he knows my name, I will protect him.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him when he is in trouble.
I will extricate him and bring him honor.
16 I will satisfy him with long life and show him my salvation."
PSALMS: 121
1 A song of ascents:
If I raise my eyes to the hills,
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from ADONAI,
the maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip -your guardian is not asleep.
4 No, the guardian of Isra'el never slumbers or sleeps.
5 ADONAI is your guardian; at your right hand
ADONAI provides you with shade
6 the sun can't strike you during the day or even the moon at night.
7 ADONAI will guard you against all harm;
he will guard your life.
8 ADONAI will guard your coming and going from now on and forever.
PROVERBS: 1
1 The proverbs of Shlomo the son of David, king of Isra'el,
2 are for learning about wisdom and discipline; f
or understanding words expressing deep insight;
3 for gaining an intelligently disciplined life,
doing what is right, just and fair;
4 for endowing with caution those who don't think and the
young person with knowledge and discretion.
5 Someone who is already wise will hear and learn still more;
someone who already understands will gain the ability to counsel well;
6 he will understand proverbs, obscure expressions,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of ADONAI is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
8 My son, heed the discipline of your father,
and do not abandon the teaching of your mother;
9 they will be a garland to grace your head,
a medal of honor for your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you,
don't go along with them.
11 Suppose they say, "Come with us:
we'll ambush somebody and kill him,
we'll waylay some harmless soul, just for fun;
12 we'll swallow him alive, like Sh'ol, whole,
like those who descend to the pit;
13 we'll find everything he has of value,
we'll fill our homes with loot!
14 Throw in your lot with us;
we'll share a common purse"-
15 my son, don't go along with them,
don't set foot on their path;
16 Their feet run to evil, they rush to shed blood.
17 For in vain is the net baited if any bird can see it;
18 rather, they are ambushing themselves
to shed their own blood, waylaying themselves.
19 So are the ways of all greedy for gain -it takes the lives of those who get it.
20 Wisdom calls aloud in the open air and raises her voice in the public places;
21 she calls out at streetcorners and speaks out at entrances to city gates:
22 "How long, you whose lives have no purpose,
will you love thoughtless living?
How long will scorners find pleasure in mocking?
How long will fools hate knowledge?
23 Repent when I reprove -I will pour out my spirit to you,
I will make my words known to you.
24 Because you refused when I called,
and no one paid attention when I put out my hand,
25 but instead you neglected my counsel and would not accept my reproof;
26 I, in turn, will laugh at your distress,
and mock when terror comes over you
27 yes, when terror overtakes you like a storm and your disaster approaches like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble assail you.
28 Then they will call me, but I won't answer;
they will seek me earnestly, but they won't find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of ADONAI,
30 they refused my counsel and despised my reproof.
31 So they will bear the consequences of their own way
and be overfilled with their own schemes.
32 For the aimless wandering of the thoughtless will kill them,
and the smug overconfidence of fools will destroy them;
33 but those who pay attention to me will live securely,
untroubled by fear of misfortune."
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 KINGS 1:1 - 2:25
1:1 Mo'av rebelled against Yisra'el after the death of Ach'av. 2 Achazyah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Shomron, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said to them, Go, inquire of Ba`al-Zevuv, the god of `Ekron, whether I shall recover of this sickness. 3 But the angel of the LORD said to Eliyah the Tishbi, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Shomron, and tell them, Is it because there is no God in Yisra'el, that you go to inquire of Ba`al-Zevuv, the god of `Ekron?4 Now therefore thus says the LORD, You shall not come down from the bed where you are gone up, but shall surely die. Eliyah departed. 5 The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, Why is it that you have returned? 6 They said to him, There came up a man to meet us, and said to us, Go, turn again to the king who sent you, and tell him, Thus says the LORD, Is it because there is no God in Yisra'el, that you send to inquire of Ba`al-Zevuv, the god of `Ekron? therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you are gone up, but shall surely die. 7 He said to them, What manner of man was he who came up to meet you, and told you these words? 8 They answered him, He was a hairy man, and girt with a belt of leather about his loins. He said, It is Eliyah the Tishbi. 9 Then [the king] sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. He went up to him: and, behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He spoke to him, man of God, the king has said, Come down. 10 Eliyah answered to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty. Fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. 11 Again he sent to him another captain of fifty and his fifty. He answered him, man of God, thus has the king said, Come down quickly. 12 Eliyah answered them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from the sky, and consume you and your fifty. The fire of God came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. 13 Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Eliyah, and begged him, and said to him, man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty your servants, be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from the sky, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight. 15 The angel of the LORD said to Eliyah, Go down with him: don't be afraid of him. He arose, and went down with him to the king. 16 He said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Ba`al-Zevuv, the god of `Ekron, is it because there is no God in Yisra'el to inquire of his word? therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you are gone up, but shall surely die. 17 So he died according to the word of the LORD which Eliyah had spoken. Yehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Yehoram the son of Yehoshafat king of Yehudah; because he had no son. 18 Now the rest of the acts of Achazyah which he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra'el?
2:1 It happened, when the LORD would take up Eliyah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Eliyah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 Eliyah said to Elisha, Please wait here, for the LORD has sent me as far as Beit-El. Elisha said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Beit-El. 3 The sons of the prophets who were at Beit-El came forth to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from your head today?" He said, "Yes, I know it; hold your shalom." 4 Eliyah said to him, Elisha, please wait here, for the LORD has sent me to Yericho. He said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Yericho. 5 The sons of the prophets who were at Yericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that the LORD will take away your master from your head today?" He answered, "Yes, I know it. Hold your shalom." 6 Eliyah said to him, "Please wait here, for the LORD has sent me to the Yarden." He said, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." They two went on. 7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood over against them afar off: and they two stood by the Yarden. 8 Eliyah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground. 9 It happened, when they had gone over, that Eliyah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you. Elisha said, please let a double portion of your spirit be on me. 10 He said, You have asked a hard thing: [nevertheless], if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so to you; but if not, it shall not be so. 11 It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both apart; and Eliyah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariots of Yisra'el and the horsemen of it! He saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces. 13 He took up also the mantle of Eliyah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Yarden. 14 He took the mantle of Eliyah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is the LORD, the God of Eliyah? and when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over. 15 When the sons of the prophets who were at Yericho over against him saw him, they said, The spirit of Eliyah does rest on Elisha. They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him. 16 They said to him, See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master, lest the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up, and cast him on some mountain, or into some valley. He said, You shall not send. 17 When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but didn't find him. 18 They came back to him, while he stayed at Yericho; and he said to them, "Didn't I tell you, 'Don't go?'" 19 The men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, we pray you, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees: but the water is bad, and the land miscarries. 20 He said, Bring me a new jar, and put salt therein. They brought it to him. 21 He went forth to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and said, Thus says the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying. 22 So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke. 23 He went up from there to Beit-El; and as he was going up by the way, there came forth young lads out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, you baldy; go up, you baldhead. 24 He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. There came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and mauled forty-two lads of them. 25 He went from there to Mount Karmel, and from there he returned to Shomron.

3 כעצים נטועים על נחלים, פרים בעונתם,
עליהם לא יבול לעולם, כל מעשיהם יצליח.
4 לא כן רשעים, כמוץ רוח.
5 לכן לא יעמדו רשעים במשפט,
וגם לא יחטאו חוטאים בקהל צדיקים. ו כי ה' שומר דרך צדיקים, ודרך רשעים נידונה.

מזמור לדוד: בך ה' חסיתי, לעולם לא אבוש, בצדקך הושיעני.
2 הטה אזנך אליי, מהרה להצילני, היה לי צור מעוז, מבצר לשמור אותי.
3 כי אתה צורי ומבצרי, הנחיני והנחיני למען שמך.
4 הוציאני מרשת טמנו לתפיני, כי אתה מעוזי.
5 בידך אפקיד רוחי, אתה תפדהני, ה' אלוהי אמת.
6 אני שונא את עובדי האלילים הבל, ואני, בה' בוטח. 7 אשמח ואשמח בחסדך, כי אתה רואה את צערי, אתה יודע כמה צר לי.
8 לא מסרתני ביד אויב, הנחתי את רגליי במקום שאוכל לנוע.
9 חנן אותי, ה', כי בצרה אני. עיני מכעסות, נפשי וגופי.
10 כי כלו חיי מצער ושנותי באנחה, כוחי אובד תחת אשמתי ועצמותי מתכלות.
11 לעג אני לכל צרי, ועוד לשכניי;
אפילו למכרים אני מושא פחד בראותני ברחוב,
מפני יפנו.
12 כמת, נעלמתי מלבונם;
הייתי כמו סיר שבור.
13 לחישה בלבד אני שומע, אימה סביבי. יַחַד זִמְרוּ עָלַי, זוֹמְרִים לִשְׁחִי.
14 אֲנִי, בָּךְ אֲדֹנִי בְּטַחַת אֲשֶׁר אֹרֵר: "אַתָּה אֱלֹהַי".

17 אֲדֹנִי, אַל אֶבְשִׁי,

כי הראה לי חסדו הפליא בהיותי בעיר מצור.
22 ואני בבהלתי אמרתי: "נגרעתי מעיניך!"

ואלעג כשיבוא עליכם אימה.
27 כן, כשאימה תשיג אתכם כסערה ואסוןכם יקרב כסופה, כשמצוקה וצרה תקפו אתכם.
28 ויקראו לי, ולא אענה;
יבקשו אותי בקשות, ולא ימצאו אותי. 29 כי שנאו דעת ולא בחרו ביראת ה',
30 מרבו לעצתי ובזו לתוכחתי.
31 אז ישאו את תוצאות דרכם
ויתמלאו מזימותיהם.

12 וירא אלישע, ויקרא, אבי, אבי, מרכבת ישראל ופרשיו! לא ראה אותו עוד; ויחזיק בבגדיו, ויקרעם לשנים. 13 וישא את מעיל אליה אשר נפל ממנו, וישב, ויעמד על שפת הירדן. 14 ויקח את מעיל אליה אשר נפל ממנו, ויכה את המים, ויאמר, איה יהוה אלהי אליה? וכאשר הכה גם הוא את המים, נחלקו הנה והנה; ואלישע עבר. 15 וַיַּרְאוּ אֹתוֹ בְנֵי הַנְּבִיאִים אֲשֶׁר בִּירִיכוֹ מִנְּגַדוֹ וַיֹּאמְרוּ לְרוּחַ אֱלִיהוּ עַל־אֲלִישָׁע. וַיָּבֹאוּ לְקַרְאֵהוּ וַיַּכְתִּים לְפָנָיו אֶת־הָרִים וַיַּכְתִּים אֶת־אֲדֹנֶיךָ. ויאמר אלהם: "הלא אמרתי לכם, 'אל תלכו'?" 19 ויאמרו אנשי העיר אל אלישע: "הנה נא, מצב העיר הזאת טוב, כאשר ראה אדוני, אך המים רעים והארץ מפילה. 20 ויאמר: הביאו לי צנצנת חדשה ותנו בה מלח. ויביאו אותה אליו. 21 ויצא אל-מעין המים ויזרוק שם מלח ויאמר: כה אמר יהוה, רפאתי את המים האלה; לא יהיה משם עוד מות והפלה. 22 ורפאו המים עד היום הזה, כדבר אלישע אשר דיבר. 23 ויעל משם בית אל, ובעלותו בדרך, ויצאו נערים מן העיר, ויעגו בו, ויאמרו אליו: עלה קירח, עלה קירח. 24 וַיַּבֵּא אֲחֹרוֹ וַיַּרְאֵהֶם וַיְקַלֵּם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה וַיֵּצְאוּ שְׁתֵּי דּוֹבוֹת מִן הַיַּעַר וַיַּרְצוּ מֵהֶן אַרְבָּעִים וְשָׁנִים נַעֲרִים. 25 וַיֵּלֶךְ מִשָּׁם הַר כַּרְמֶל וַיָּשָׁם שָׁב שׁוֹמְרוֹן

יא ויהי עודם הולכים ודברים והנה מרכבת אש וסוסי אש והפרידו ביניהם ואליה עלה בסערה השמים.
יב וירא אלישע ויקרא אבי אבי מרכבת ישראל ופרשיו לא ראה אותו עוד ויחזיק בבגדיו ויקרעם לשנים. יג וישא את מעיל אליה הנפל ממנו וישב ויעמד על שפת הירדן. יד ויקח את מעיל אליה הנפל ממנו ויכה את המים ויאמר איה יהוה אלהי אליה ויחצה את המים הנה והנה ויעבור אלישע. טו ויראו אותו בני הנביאים אשר ביריחו מנגד ויאמרו רוח אליה נוחת על אלישע. ויבאו לקראתו וישתחוו לפניו ארצה. טז ויאמרו אליו, ראה נא, יש עם עבדיך חמישים גיבורים; ילכו נא ובקשו את אדונך, פן נשאהו רוח ה' ותפילו על איזה הר או על איזה עמק. ויאמר, לא תשלח. יז וַיַּדְחוּ בוֹ עד בוש, ויאמר, שלח. וישלחו חמישים איש, ויבקשו שלושה ימים, ולא מצאו. יח וישבו אליו, והוא ישב ביריחו, ויאמר אלהם, הלוא אמרתי לכם, אל תלכו? יט ויאמרו אנשי העיר אל אלישע, ראה נא, מצב העיר הזאת טוב, כאשר אדוני רואה, אך המים רעים, והארץ מפילה. 20 ויאמר, הביאו לי צנצנת חדשה, ותנו בה מלח, והביאו לו. 21 ויצא אל-מעין המים ויזרוק שם מלח ויאמר כה אמר יהוה רפאתי את-המים האלה לא-יהי משם עוד מות והפלה. 22 ורפאו המים עד-היום הזה, כדבר אלישע אשר דבר. 23 ויעל משם בית-אל ויעלה בדרך ויצאו נערים מן-העיר ולעגו לו ויאמרו אליו עלה קירח עלה קירח. 24 ויפנה אחריו וירא אותם ויקלל אותם בשם יהוה ויצאו שתיים דובות מן-היער ויפגעו מהן ארבעים ושנים נערים. 25 וילך משם הר הכרמל ומשם שב שומרון
John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
