A psalm of David:
ADONAI, don't rebuke me in your anger,
don't discipline me in the heat of your fury.
2 Be gracious to me, ADONAI,
because I am withering away;
heal me, ADONAI, because my bones are shaking;
3 I am completely terrified;
and you, ADONAI - how long?
4 Come back, ADONAI, and rescue me!
Save me for the sake of your grace;
5 for in death, no one remembers you;
in Sh'ol, who will praise you?
6 I am worn out with groaning;
all night I drench my bed with tears,
flooding my couch till it swims.
7 My vision is darkened with anger;
it grows weak because of all my foes.
8 Get away from me, all you workers of evil!
For ADONAI has heard the sound of my weeping,
9 ADONAI has heard my pleading,
ADONAI will accept my prayer.
10 All my enemies will be confounded, completely terrified;
they will turn back and be suddenly put to shame.
PSALMS: 36
1 For the leader.
By David, the servant of ADONAI:
Crime speaks to the wicked.
I perceive this in my heart;
before his eyes there is no fear of God.
2 For, the way he sees it, crime makes his life easy that is,
until his wrongs are discovered;
then, he is hated.
3 His words are wrong and deceitful;
he has stopped being wise and doing good.
4 He devises trouble as he lies in bed;
so set is he on his own bad way that he doesn't hate evil.
5 ADONAI, in the heavens is your grace;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God,
your judgments are like the great deep.
You save man and beast, ADONAI.
7 How precious, God, is your grace!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings,
8 they feast on the rich bounty of your house,
and you have them drink from the stream of your delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
10 Continue your grace to those who know you
and your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Don't let the foot of the proud tread on me
or the hands of the wicked drive me away.
12 There they lie fallen, those evildoers,
flung down and unable to rise.
PSALMS: 66
1 For the leader.
A song.
A psalm:
Shout to God, all the earth!
2 Sing the glory of his name,
make his praise glorious.
3 Tell God, "How awesome are your deeds!
At your great power, your enemies cringe.
4 All the earth bows down to you, sings praises to you,
sings praises to your name."

5 Come and see what God has done,
his awesome dealings with humankind.
6 He turned the sea into dry land.
They passed through the river on foot;
there we rejoiced in him.
7 With his power he rules forever;
his eyes keep watch on the nations.
Let no rebel arise to challenge him.
8 Bless our God, you peoples!
Let the sound of his praise be heard!
9 He preserves our lives and keeps our feet from stumbling.

10 For you, God, have tested us,
refined us as silver is refined.
11 You brought us into the net
and bound our bodies fast.
12 You made men ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water.
But you brought us out to a place of plenty.
13 I will come into your house with burnt offerings,
I will fulfill my vows to you,
14 those my lips pronounced and my mouth spoke
when I was in distress.
15 I will offer you burnt offerings of fattened animals,
along with the sweet smoke of rams;
I will offer bulls and goats. (Selah)
16 Come and listen, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth,
his praise was on my tongue.
18 Had I cherished evil thoughts,
Adonai would not have listened.
19 But in fact, God did listen;
he paid attention to my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, who did not reject my prayer
or turn his grace away from me.
PSALMS: 96
1 Sing to ADONAI a new song!
Sing to ADONAI, all the earth!
2 Sing to ADONAI, bless his name!
Proclaim his victory day after day!
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his wonders among all peoples!
4 For ADONAI is great, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared more than all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but ADONAI made the heavens.
6 In his presence are honor and majesty;
in his sanctuary, strength and splendor.
7 Give ADONAI his due, you families from the peoples;
give ADONAI his due of glory and strength;
8 give ADONAI the glory due to his name;
bring an offering, and enter his courtyards.
9 Worship ADONAI in holy splendor;
tremble before him, all the earth!
10 Say among the nations, "ADONAI is king!
"The world is firmly established, immovable.
He will judge the peoples fairly.
11 Let the heavens rejoice; let the earth be glad;
let the sea roar, and everything in it;
12 let the fields exult and all that is in them.
Then all the trees in the forest will sing
13 before ADONAI, because he has come, he has come to judge the earth;
he will judge the world rightly and the peoples with his faithfulness.
PSALMS: 126
1 When the LORD brought back those who returned to Tziyon,
We were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.
Then said they among the nations,
"The LORD has done great things for them."
3 The LORD has done great things for us,
And we are glad.
4 Restore our fortunes again, LORD,
Like the streams in the Negev.
5 Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing,
Will assuredly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.
PROVERBS: 6
1 My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor,
If you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;
2 You are trapped by the words of your mouth.
You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself,
Seeing you have come into the hand of your neighbor.
Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.
4 Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids.
5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
Like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard.
Consider her ways, and be wise;
7 Which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler,
8 Provides her bread in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
9 How long will you sleep, sluggard?
When will you arise out of your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So your poverty will come as a robber,
And your scarcity as an armed man.
12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity,
Is he who walks with a perverse mouth;
13 Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,
Who motions with his fingers;
14 In whose heart is perverseness,
Who devises evil continually,
Who always sows discord.
15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly.
He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.
16 There are six things which the LORD hates;
Yes, seven which are an abomination to him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood;
18 A heart that devises wicked schemes,
Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness who utters lies,
And he who sows discord among brothers.
20 My son, keep your father's mitzvah,
And don't forsake your mother's teaching.
21 Bind them continually on your heart.
Tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, it will lead you.
When you sleep, it will watch over you.
When you awake, it will talk with you.
23 For the mitzvah is a lamp,
And the law is light.
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep you from the immoral woman,
From the flattery of the wayward wife's tongue.
25 Don't lust after her beauty in your heart,
Neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.
26 For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread.
The adulteress hunts for your precious life.
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap,
And his clothes not be burned?
28 Or can one walk on hot coals,
And his feet not be scorched?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife.
Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.
30 Men don't despise a thief,
If he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:
31 But if he be found, he shall restore seven times.
He shall give all the wealth of his house.
32 He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding.
He who does it destroys his own soul.
33 He will get wounds and dishonor.
His reproach will not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband.
He won't spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He won't regard any ransom,
Neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 KINGS 9:14 - 10:31
9:14 So Yehu the son of Yehoshafat the son of Nimshi conspired against Yoram. (Now Yoram was keeping Ramot-Gil`ad, he and all Yisra'el, because of Haza'el king of Aram; 15 but king Yoram was returned to be healed in Yizre`el of the wounds which the Aram had given him, when he fought with Haza'el king of Aram.) Yehu said, If this be your mind, then let none escape and go forth out of the city, to go to tell it in Yizre`el. 16 So Yehu rode in a chariot, and went to Yizre`el; for Yoram lay there. Achazyah king of Yehudah was come down to see Yoram. 17 Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Yizre`el, and he spied the company of Yehu as he came, and said, I see a company. Yoram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it shalom? 18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus says the king, Is it shalom? Yehu said, What have you to do with shalom? turn you behind me. The watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he isn't coming back. 19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them, and said, Thus says the king, Is it shalom? Yehu answered, What have you to do with shalom? turn you behind me. 20 The watchman told, saying, He came even to them, and isn't coming back: and the driving is like the driving of Yehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously. 21 Yoram said, Make ready. They made ready his chariot. Yoram king of Yisra'el and Achazyah king of Yehudah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Yehu, and found him in the portion of Navot the Yizre`eli. 22 It happened, when Yoram saw Yehu, that he said, Is it shalom, Yehu? He answered, What shalom, so long as the prostitution of your mother Izevel and her witchcraft abound? 23 Yoram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Achazyah, There is treachery, Achazyah. 24 Yehu drew his bow with his full strength, and struck Yoram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot. 25 Then said [Yehu] to Bidgar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Navot the Yizre`eli; for remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ach'av his father, the LORD laid this burden on him: 26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Navot, and the blood of his sons, says the LORD; and I will requite you in this plat, says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat [of ground], according to the word of the LORD. 27 But when Achazyah the king of Yehudah saw this, he fled by the way of the Beit-Haggan. Yehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: [and they struck him] at the ascent of Gur, which is by Yivle`am. He fled to Megiddo, and died there. 28 His servants carried him in a chariot to Yerushalayim, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the city of David. 29 In the eleventh year of Yoram the son of Ach'av began Achazyah to reign over Yehudah. 30 When Yehu was come to Yizre`el, Izevel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and attired her head, and looked out at the window. 31 As Yehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it shalom, you Zimri, your master's murderer? 32 He lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? There looked out to him two or three eunuchs. 33 He said, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot. 34 When he was come in, he ate and drink; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king's daughter. 35 They went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands. 36 Therefore they came back, and told him. He said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Eliyah the Tishbi, saying, In the portion of Yizre`el shall the dogs eat the flesh of Izevel; 37 and the body of Izevel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Yizre`el, so that they shall not say, This is Izevel.
10:1 Now Ach'av had seventy sons in Shomron. Yehu wrote letters, and sent to Shomron, to the rulers of Yizre`el, even the Zakenim, and to those who brought up [the sons of] Ach'av, saying, 2 Now as soon as this letter comes to you, seeing your master's sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor; 3 look you out the best and meet of your master's sons, and set him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's house. 4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, the two kings didn't stand before him: how then shall we stand? 5 He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the Zakenim also, and those who brought up [the children], sent to Yehu, saying, We are your servants, and will do all that you shall bid us; we will not make any man king: you do that which is good in your eyes. 6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If you be on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Yizre`el by tomorrow this time. Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up. 7 It happened, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and killed them, even seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Yizre`el. 8 There came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. He said, Lay you them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning. 9 It happened in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, You are righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and killed him; but who struck all these? 10 Know now that there shall fall to the eretz nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spoke concerning the house of Ach'av: for the LORD has done that which he spoke by his servant Eliyah. 11 So Yehu struck all that remained of the house of Ach'av in Yizre`el, and all his great men, and his familiar friends, and his Kohanim, until he left him none remaining. 12 He arose and departed, and went to Shomron. As he was at the shearing-house of the shepherds in the way, 13 Yehu met with the brothers of Achazyah king of Yehudah, and said, Who are you? They answered, We are the brothers of Achazyah: and we go down to Greet the children of the king and the children of the queen. 14 He said, Take them alive. They took them alive, and killed them at the pit of the shearing-house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them. 15 When he was departed there, he lighted on Yehonadav the son of Rechav coming to meet him; and he greeted him, and said to him, Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart? Yehonadav answered, It is. If it be, give me your hand. He gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot. 16 He said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD. So they made him ride in his chariot. 17 When he came to Shomron, he struck all who remained to Ach'av in Shomron, until he had destroyed him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to Eliyah. 18Yehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, Ach'av served Ba`al a little; but Yehu will serve him much. 19 Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Ba`al, all his worshippers, and all his Kohanim; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice [to do] to Ba`al; whoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Yehu did it in subtlety, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Ba`al. 20 Yehu said, Sanctify a solemn assembly for Ba`al. They proclaimed it. 21 Yehu sent through all Yisra'el: and all the worshippers of Ba`al came, so that there was not a man left that didn't come. They came into the house of Ba`al; and the house of Ba`al was filled from one end to another. 22 He said to him who was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Ba`al. He brought them forth vestments. 23 Yehu went, and Yehonadav the son of Rechav, into the house of Ba`al; and he said to the worshippers of Ba`al, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of Ba`al only. 24 They went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Yehu had appointed him eighty men outside, and said, If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, [he who lets him go], his life shall be for the life of him. 25 It happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Yehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and kill them; let none come forth. They struck them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Ba`al. 26 They brought forth the pillars that were in the house of Ba`al, and burned them. 27 They broke down the pillar of Ba`al, and broke down the house of Ba`al, and made it a latrine, to this day. 28 Thus Yehu destroyed Ba`al out of Yisra'el. 29 However from the sins of Yarov`am the son of Nevat, with which he made Yisra'el to sin, Yehu didn't depart from after them, [to wit], the golden calves that were in Beit-El, and that were in Dan. 30 The LORD said to Yehu, Because you have done well in executing that which is right in my eyes, [and] have done to the house of Ach'av according to all that was in my heart, your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Yisra'el. 31 But Yehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, with all his heart: he didn't depart from the sins of Yarov`am, with which he made Yisra'el to sin.
NEW TESTAMENT: ACTS 17:1 - 34
17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Yehudim.
2 Sha'ul, as was his custom, went in to them, and for three Shabbat days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
3explaining and demonstrating that the Messiah had to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Yeshua, whom I proclaim to you, is the Messiah."
4 Some of them were persuaded, and joined Sha'ul and Sila, of the devout Yevanim a great multitude, and not a few of the chief women.
5 But the disobedient Yehudim gathered some wicked men from the marketplace, and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.
6 When they didn't find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
7 whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Yeshua!"
8 The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.
9 When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
10 The brothers immediately sent Sha'ul and Sila away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Yehudi synagogue.
11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.
12 Many of them therefore believed; also of the Yevanit women of honorable estate, and not a few men.
13 But when the Yehudim of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed by Sha'ul at Beroea also, they came there likewise, agitating the multitudes.
14 Then the brothers immediately sent out Sha'ul to go as far as to the sea, and Sila and Timothy still stayed there.
15 But those who escorted Sha'ul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a mitzvah to Sila and Timothy that they should come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 Now while Sha'ul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw the city full of idols.
17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with Yehudim and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met him.
18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also encountered him. Some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be advocating foreign demons," because he preached Yeshua and the resurrection.
19 They took hold of him, and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by you?
20 For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean."
21 Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
22 Sha'ul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, "You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.
23 For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I announce to you.
24 The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and eretz, dwells not in temples made with hands,
25 neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things.
26 He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the eretz, having determined appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation,
27 that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
28 'For in him we live, and move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.'
29 Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and device of man.
30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all men everywhere should repent,
31 because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead."
32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, "We want to hear you yet again concerning this."
33 Thus Sha'ul went out from among them.
34 But certain men joined with him, and believed, among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

רפאני ה' כי עצמותיי רועדות;
3 נבהלתי מאוד;
ואתה ה' עד מתי?
4 שוב ה' והושיעני! הושיעני למען חסדך;
5 כי במות אין זכרך;
בשאול מי יהללך?
6 אני תשוש מאנחה;
כל הלילה אשפוך משכבי בדמעות,

1 למנחה. לדוד עבד ה':
חטא מדבר לרשע. אבחין זאת בלבי; לנגד עיניו אין יראת אלוהים.
2 כי, כפי שהוא רואה זאת, פשע מקל על חייו, כלומר,
עד שיתגלו עוונותיו;
ואז, הוא שנוא.
3 דבריו טועים ומרמאים;
הוא חדל להיות חכם ולעשות טוב.
4 הוא חוקר צרות בשכיבה במיטתו;
כך הוא שקוע בדרכו הרעה ולא ישנא רע.
5 ה', בשמים חסדך;
עד השמיים אמונתך מגיעה.
6 כהרי אלוהים צדקתך,
כתהום גדולה משפטיך.

9 השתחוו לה' בהדר קדש; רעדו לפניו כל הארץ!
10 אמרו בגויים: "ה' מלך!
"תבל כון, לא נוע. הוא ישפוט עמים בצדק.
11 ישמחו שמים, תשמח הארץ; ישאג ים וכל אשר בו;
12 יגלגו שדות וכל אשר בהם. אז ישירו כל עצי היער.
13 לפני ה', כי בא, בא לשפוט ארץ; הוא ישפוט תבל בצדק ואת העמים באמונתו.

היינו כחולמים.
2 אז ימלא פינו צחוק,

אז יאמרו בגויים:
"ה' עשה להם גדלות".

11 אז יבוא עוניך כשודד,
ומחסורך כאיש חמוש.
12 אדם חסר תועלת,
הולך פה מעוות;
13 אשר קורץ בעיניו, אשר מאותת ברגליו,
אשר מסר באצבעותיו; יד אשר בלבו רעה,
חושב רע תמיד,
זורע מחלוקת תמיד.
טו על כן פתאם תבוא אסון.
פתאם ישבר, וללא תרופה.
טז שש דברים אשר שנא ה';
ושבעה תועבתם לו:
ז עיני גאוות, לשון שקר,
ידיים שופכות דם נקי;
ח לב חובש מחשבות רעות,
רגליים מהירות לרוץ לרעה,
ט עד שקר מדבר שקר,
וזורע מחלוקת בין אחים.
כב בני, שמור מצות אביך,
ותורת אמך אל תעזוב.
כא קשר אותם תמיד על לבבך,
קשר אותם על צוארך.
כב כי תלך, היא תנחה אותך. כשתישן, הוא ישמור עליך. כשתעורר, הוא ידבר איתך.
23 כי מצווה היא נר,
והתורה היא אור. תוכחות מוסר הן דרך חיים,
24 לשמור אותך מאישה זרה,
מחנופת לשון רעה.
25 אל תתאווה ליופייה בלבבך,
ואל תתן לה לכבוש אותך בעפעפיה.
26 כי זונה מצמצמת אותך לפת לחם. נואפת צדה את נפשך היקרה.
27 האם יִחַפֵּא אִישׁ אֵשׁ בְּחִיקו,
ובגדיו לא יישרפו?

וְלֹא יְשַׁבֵּחַ, אֲגוֹי תְּרַבֵּה מִתְנַתָּנִים.

ט', יד וַיְקָשֶׁר יְהוּא בֶּן יְהוֹשְׁפָּט בֶּן נִמְשִׁי עַל יוֹרָם. 10:1 ולאחאב שבעים בנים בשומרון. יהוא כתב ספרים וישלח לשומרון אל שרי יזרעאל, אל הזקנים ואל המגדלים את אחאב לאמר: 2 ועתה, כבוא הספר הזה אליכם, כי בני אדוניכם עמכם, ורכב וסוסים, עיר מבצר ושריון: 3 חפשו את הטובים והטובים מבני אדוניכם, והושיבו אותו על כסא אביו, ולחמו על בית אדוניכם.4 ויראו מאוד, ויאמרו, הנה שני המלכים לא עמדו לפניו, ואיך נעמוד?5 הוא אשר על הבית, והוא אשר על העיר, הזקנים והמגדלים, שלחו אל יהוא לאמר, עבדיך אנחנו, וכל אשר תצוה לנו נעשה. לא תמליך איש; עשו את הטוב בעיניכם. ו ויכתב אליהם מכתב שנית לאמר אם בעדי אתם ואם שמעתם בקולי, קחו את ראשי בני אדניכם ובאו אלי יזרעאל עד מחר בזמן הזה. ובני המלך שבעים איש היו עם גדולי העיר אשר העלו אותם. ז ויהי כאשר הגיע המכתב אליהם ויקחו את בני המלך והרגו אותם שבעים איש וישימו את ראשיהם בסלים וישלחו אותם אליו יזרעאל. ח ויבא מלאך ויגד לו לאמר הביאו את ראשי בני המלך ויאמר הניחו אותם בשתי ערמות פתח השער עד הבוקר. ט ויהי בבוקר ויצא ויעמד ויאמר לכל העם צדיקים אתם הנה קשרתי על אדני ואמיתו ומי הכה את כל אלה? 10 דעו נא כי לא יפול דבר ה' אשר דבר ה' על בית אחאב על הארץ כי עשה ה' את אשר דבר ביד עבדו אליה. 11 ויך יהוא את כל הנשארים מבית אחאב ביזרעאל ואת כל גדוליו ואת ידידיו ואת כוהניו עד אשר לא השאיר לו שריד. 12 ויקם וילך וילך שומרון והיה בגזיזת הרועים בדרך. 13 ויפגע יהוא את אחי אחזיה מלך יהודה ויאמר מי אתם ויאמרו אחי אחזיה אנחנו וירדו לשלום את בני המלך ואת בני המלכה. 14 ויאמר תפסו אותם חיים. תפסו אותם חיים וישחטו אותם בבור בית הגזיזת ארבעים ושנים איש. ולא השאיר איש מהם. 15 ויצא משם ופגש את יהונדב בן רחב הבא לקראתו ויברא את פניו ויאמר אליו: "האם לבך ישר כאשר ליבי עם לבבך?" ויאמר יהונדב: "כן. אם כן, תן לי ידך." ונתן לו את ידו ויעלה אותו אליו על המרכבה. 16 ויאמר: "בוא עמי וראה את קנאתי לה'." וירכו אותו במרכבתו. 17 ויבא שומרון ויכה את כל הנשארים לאחאב בשומרון עד השמדתו כדבר ה' אשר דבר אל אליה. 18 ויאסף יהוא את כל העם ויאמר אלהם: "אחאב עבד את בעל מעט, ויהוא יעבד אותו הרבה." 19 ועתה קראו אלי את כל נביאי בעל ואת כל עובדיו ואת כל כוהניו. וְלֹא-יְחָסֵר אִישׁ כִּי-זֶבַח גָדָל לִי לַבַּעַל; מִמָּה שֶׁיְחָסֵר לֹא-יְחִיהוּ. וַיְהוּא עָשָׂה בְּעַרְמָה לְהַשְׁחִיד אֶת-עֲבֹדֵי בַּעַל. 20 אמר יהוא, "קִדְשׁוּ עצרת לַבַּעַל." וַיִּקְרָאוּ. 21 וַיְשַׁלֵחַ יהוא בְּכָל-יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַיָּבֹאוּ כָּל-עֲבֹדֵי בַּעַל, וְלֹא-נָשָׁר אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא-בֹא. וַיָּבֹאוּ בֵּית בַּעַל, וַיִּמְלָא בֵּית בַּעַל מִקֶּדֶּה וַיַּגִּיעַ לָהֶם בְּלָדִים. 23 הלך יהוא ויהונדב בן-רַכָּב בֵּית בַּעַל; ויאמר אל-עבדי בעל, חפשו וראו פן-לא יהיה פה עמכם איש מעבדי ה', כי-לבד עבדי בעל. 24 ויבאו להקריב זבחים ועלות. ויהו מינה לו שמונים איש בחוץ, ויאמר, אם-ימלט איש מן-האנשים אשר-אביא בידכם, נפשו תחת נפשו. 25 ויהי ככלות להקריב את העולה, ויאמר יהוא אל-הטַרְבָּה ואל-השרים, בוא והרגתם, אל-יצא. ויכו אותם לפי-חרב, והשרים והשרים הוציאו, וילכו אל-עיר בית בעל. 26 ויציאו את-העמודים אשר בבית בעל, וישרפו אותם. 27 ויתרו את-עמוד הבעל, וישרפו את-בית בעל, וישפרו אותו למחצה עד-היום הזה. 28 וכך השמיד יהוא את בעל מישראל.
כט ומחטאות ירובעם בן נבט אשר החטיא את ישראל לא סָר יהוא אחריהם עגלי הזהב אשר בבית אל ואשר בדן. ל ויאמר ה' אל יהוא יען אשר הטיב עשית את הישר בעיניי ועשית לבית אחאב ככל אשר בלבי ישבו בניך דור רביעי על כסא ישראל. לא ולא שמר יהוא ללכת בתורת ה' אלוהי ישראל בכל לבבו לא סָר מחטאות ירובעם אשר החטיא את ישראל. הברית החדשה: מעשי השליחים יז:1 - 34
יז:1 ויעברו דרך אמפיפוליס ואפולוניה, והגיעו לתסלוניקי, שם היה בית כנסת של יהודים.
2 שאול, כמנהגו, נכנס אליהם, ובמשך שלוש שבתות דן איתם מהכתובים,
3הסביר והראה כי המשיח צריך לסבול ולקום לתחייה, ואמר: "ישוע זה, אשר אני מכריז לכם, הוא המשיח."
4 חלק מהם השתכנעו, והצטרפו לשאול ולסילא, מהיבנים האדוקים, המון רב, ולא מעט מהנשים החשובות.
5 אבל היהודים הסוררים אספו אנשים רשעים מהשוק, אספו קהל והעירו את העיר. הם תקפו את ביתו של יאסון, וביקשו להוציאם אל העם.
6 כאשר לא מצאו אותם, גררו את יאסון וכמה אחים לפני שליטי העיר וצעקו: "גם אלה שהפכו את העולם באו הנה,
7 אשר יאסון קיבל אותם. כולם פועלים בניגוד לגזירות הקיסר, באומרם שיש מלך אחר, ישוע!"
8 ההמון ושליטי העיר נבהלו כששמעו את הדברים האלה.
9 לאחר שקיבלו ערבות מיאסון ומהשאר, שחררו אותם.
10 מיד שלחו האחים את שאול וסילה בלילה לבראה. כשהגיעו, הלכו לבית הכנסת היהודי.
11 ואלה היו אצילים יותר מאלה שבסלוניקי, בכך שקיבלו את הדבר בכל נכונות דעת, ובחנו את הכתובים יום יום, האם הדברים האלה אכן כך.
12 לכן האמינו רבים מהם, וגם נשים יבניות מכובדות, ולא מעט גברים. 13 כאשר נודע ליהודי תסלוניקי כי דבר אלוהים נשבר על ידי שאול גם בבראה, הם באו לשם והסתירו את ההמונים.
14 אז שלחו האחים את שאול מיד עד הים, וסילה וטימותיאוס נשארו שם.
15 אבל אלה שליוו את שאול הביאו אותו עד אתונה. לאחר שקיבלו מצווה לסילה וטימותיאוס לבוא אליו במהירות, הם הלכו.
16 בעוד שאול חיכה להם באתונה, התרגשה רוחו כשראה את העיר מלאה אלילים.
17 וידבר בבית הכנסת עם היהודים ועם החסידים, ובשוק בכל יום עם אלה שפגשו אותו.
18 גם כמה מהפילוסופים האפיקוראים והסטואים נתקלו בו, וחלקם אמרו: "מה רוצה המפטפט הזה לומר?" אחרים אמרו, "נראה שהוא דובר על שדים זרים", משום שהוא הטיף על ישוע ועל תחיית המתים.
19 הם תפסו אותו והביאו אותו אל האראופגוס ואמרו, "האם נוכל לדעת מהי התורה החדשה הזו שאתה מדבר?
20 כי אתה מביא דברים מוזרים לאוזנינו. לכן אנו רוצים לדעת מה פירוש הדברים האלה."
21 כל האתונאים והזרים היושבים שם לא התעסקו בדבר אחר, אלא בספר או בשמיעת דבר חדש.
22 שאול עמד בתוך האראופגוס ואמר, "אנשי אתונה, אני רואה שאתם אדוקים מאוד בכל דבר.
23 כי כשעברתי הלאה וצפיתי במקומות עבודתכם, מצאתי גם מזבח עם הכיתוב: 'לאל לא ידוע'. לכן את אשר אתם סוגדים לו בבורות, את זאת אני מבשר לכם.
24 האל אשר ברא את העולם ואת כל אשר בו, הוא, בהיותו אדון השמים והארץ, אינו שוכן במקדשים עשויים ידיים,
25 וגם ידי אדם אינן משרתות אותו כאילו הוא זקוק לדבר, בהיותו נותן לכל חיים ורוח וכל הדברים.
26 הוא ברא מדם אחד את כל גוי האדם לשכון על פני כל הארץ, לאחר שקבע מועדים וגבולות ישובם,
27 למען יבקשו את האדון, אם יוכלו לפנות אליו ולמצוא אותו, אף כי אינו רחוק מכל אחד מאיתנו.
28 'כי בו אנו חיים, נעים וקיימים', כפי שאמרו כמה ממשורריכם, 'כי גם צאצאיו אנחנו'. 29 בהיותנו בני אלוהים, אל לנו לחשוב שהטבע האלוהי דומה לזהב, לכסף או לאבן, חרוטים באומנות ובתחבולה של אדם.
30 לכן אלוהים התעלם מעת לעתות הבורות. אך כעת הוא מצווה על כל בני האדם בכל מקום לחזור בתשובה,

32 כאשר שמעו על תחיית המתים, לעגו אחדים; ואחרים אמרו: "אנחנו רוצים לשמוע אותך שוב על כך."
33 כך יצא שאול מתוכם.
34 אך אנשים מסוימים הצטרפו אליו והאמינו, ביניהם גם דיוניסיוס האראופגיט, ואישה ושמה דמריס ואחרים איתם.
